3 TRAINING CAMP NOTES Camp roster The Senators camp roster includes 61 players: Five goaltenders, 21 defencemen and 35 forwards. Twenty-four (24) players participated in the 2015 rookie camp and tournament in Ottawa and London, Ont. The list of camp invitees is built primarily around the Senators draft. Thirty (30) players were selected by Ottawa in NHL drafts, 10 players were signed as free agents, 10 players were obtained in trades, nine players are signed to American Hockey League two-way contracts, one player is signed to an ECHL contract and one player is on an amateur tryout. The Senators season training camp roster included 57 players: Five goaltenders, 19 defencemen and 33 forwards. The list of camp invitees was built primarily around the Senators draft. Twenty-eight (28) players were selected by Ottawa in NHL drafts, 11 players were signed as free agents, 10 players were obtained in trades, seven players were on professional tryouts and one player was on an amateur tryout with the club. Rookie tournament The Senators participated in their 15th rookie camp and tournament from Sept This year s tournament was held in London, Ont., with the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs also participating. Teams: Binghamton (AHL), Ottawa (NHL) Acquired: Was originally signed to a two-year entry-level contract on 3/20/ : Began the season in Binghamton (American Hockey League) Played 25 games with the B-Sens before an emergency recall to Ottawa on Jan. 29 where he remained for the rest of the season and playoffs Recorded the first win (42 saves) of his National Hockey League career on Feb. 18 vs. Montreal (4-2 win) in his first career start and became the oldest goaltender (27 years, eight days) in Senators franchise history to register a win in his first career start in that game Registered the first shutout victory (25 saves) of his NHL career on Feb. 25 at Anaheim (3-0 win) Became only the second goaltender in NHL history to post consecutive road shutouts against the Ducks and Kings (in either order) and the first to do so on back-to-back days when he accomplished the feat at Anaheim and on Feb. 26 at Los Angeles (1-0 win) Became the first Senators goaltender since March of 2010 (Brian Elliott) to register back-to-back shutout victories Became the first goaltender in franchise history to win each of his first five starts (while doing so in five consecutive team games) when he helped the club complete its first three-game road sweep of California opponents on Feb. 28 at San Jose (4-2 win) Became only the second goaltender in NHL history, and the first since Boston s Frank Brimsek set the mark in , to yield two or fewer goals in each of his first 12 career starts when he improved to on March 17 at Carolina (2-1 OT win) The win over the Hurricanes also saw him match a Senators record (Ron Tugnutt, ) for the longest streak of consecutive starts at any point in a career without allowing more than two goals Improved to to become the first goaltender to earn at least one point in each of his first 15 NHL starts since Patrick Lalime did so over his first 16 starts with Pittsburgh in (14-0-2) on March 23 vs. San Jose (5-2 win) Was recognized as the NHL s First Star for the month of March after posting a record of with a 2.09 goalsagainst average and.930 save percentage to help the Senators earn a record of over the month s 16 games Became the first goaltender in the NHL s modern era to earn at least one point in each of his first 12 career road starts when he improved to (1.79 goals-against average,.941 save percentage, three shutouts) in the team s regular season finale on April 11 at Philadelphia (3-1 win) The win over the Flyers saw him conclude the season with a mark on the road, where he registered a goals-against average of 1.06, a.966 save percentage and each of his three shutout victories (at Anaheim, at Los Angeles and at N.Y.
