Notre Dame s Brian Giordano tied a career-high with five goals, while middie Brian Hubschmann added a career-high four goals and posted one assist, and Pat Walsh chipped in with two goals and three assists. The Pride were led by attackman Athan Ianucci with a career-high four goals and one assist, while Chris Unterstein added three goals and one assist. The Pride couldn t seem to get their game legs until 17 minutes after the opening face-off as Ianucci dented the twine off with a man-up goal off a pass from Tim Treubig 3:2 into the second period. But the damage had been done as the Irish had scored seven times, all at even-man situations, in the first 15 minutes. Not only did the Irish take an insurmountable lead in the first quarter, Hofstra did not get off a shot as Notre Dame outshot the Pride 17-0 in the first quarter. Hofstra goalie Matt Southard recorded five of his 12 total saves in the first quarter. But Hofstra seemed to right the ship in the second as Ianucci s second goal closed the gap to 7-2 with 10:49 to play in the half and gave the Pride hope. But Walsh scored his second of the game, and 11th of the season, 2 seconds later to start a 3-0 Irish run that boosted the Notre Dame lead to But Hofstra did not quit and got goals by Unterstein, Rob Bonaguro and Ryan Vilar that brought the Pride back to 11-5 at halftime. Irish senior Dan Berger scored his eighth goal of the year eight seconds into the second half to bump the Notre Dame lead to But Pride midfielder Tim Treubig and Unterstein closed the gap to five seven minutes later. After Matt Karweck tallied his ninth of the year with :28 to play in the third, Unterstein scored his third of the game and the fourth of his season, on the man-up, a minute later to close to It would be as close as Hofstra would get as Berger scored 2:5 before the end of the third, and Hubschmann scored 2:49 into the fourth for a 15-8 lead. KEYSOR NAMED INSIDE LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hofstra junior attack John Keysor was named the Inside Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week for leading the Pride to a 2-0 record last week. Hofstra is ranked 13 th this week. - The Pride fell from the USILA (Geico/STX) Top 20 on March 29, 2004 for the first time since the Monday, March 19, 2001 poll. - Before 2004 the last time Hofstra fell from the Top 20 was following a 10-5 loss to Princeton on March 17, Hofstra climbed back into the Top 20 the following week (3/2) after a overtime win over second-ranked Notre Dame that placed the Pride at 1 th. MOYER ON 2005 TEWAARATON TROPHY WATCH LIST: Hofstra University men s lacrosse player Brett Moyer has been named to the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy Preseason Watch List. - The Tewaaraton Trophy honors the top male and female varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States. Hofstra alumnus Doug Shanahan captured the first Tewaaraton Trophy in The list is just an early season indicator of who to watch for during the 2005 season. The list will be narrowed down to five finalists by the end of the year with the award presented following the season. The list is composed of 37 players, 35 of which are from Division I schools.

5 - Moyer, a junior defender from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, is a 2005 Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse Preseason All- American after being named a USILA Division I All-America honorable mention and an All-Colonial Athletic Association first team selection last season. - Moyer had his best game of the season with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers against UNC. He followed that up with five ground balls and three caused turnovers against Princeton. - Moyer picked up four ground balls at Brown, three against Massachusetts and two against Hopkins. He also scored his first goal of his college career against Johns Hopkins on March 12. GOALIE MATT SOUTHARD - Junior goalie Matt Southard opened the 2005 season with double-digit saves in the first four games. He posted 1 saves against Massachusetts, 11 saves at Brown and 10 at Johns Hopkins and against UNC. - Against Princeton he had eight saves including three in the final quarter in which the Pride shutout the Tigers. On Monday, he made six saves against Binghamton. - He posted double-digit saves in 10 of 14 games last season. The only four games in which he didn t post double digit saves were Sacred Heart (3), Drexel (8), Stony Brook () and Towson (3). - Southard posted 12 saves in 2004 for a.52 save percentage. - Southard recorded career high saves on consecutive weekends last season. Morris, a junior All-American, tied his career high with five points and set a career-high with four goals, Senior Jeff Zywicki also tallied five points for the Minutemen with three goals and two assists, The Pride got on the board first as Keysor scored an unassisted goal 4:11 into the contest. But UMass responded with five straight goals to take a 5-1 lead 3:09 into the second quarter. Morris had the third and fourth goals in the run and Zywicki added two assists. But Hofstra replied with three unanswered goals in the next seven minutes of the second quarter, as Tim Treubig, Ryan Vilar and Chris Unterstein dented the twine, to close to 5-4. It was Morris' third goal of the period for the Minutemen with 3:33 left in the half that gave UMass a -4 halftime lead and started a 4-0 run that put the game out of reach. Zywicki scored 1:51 into the third for UMass followed by unassisted goals by Brian Jacovina and Chris Doyle that boosted the Minutemen lead to 9-5 with 5:09 to play in the third. Hofstra junior midfielder Tim Treubig led the Pride with two goals and one assist while junior goalie Matt Southard posted 10 saves. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period as Barrie scored his second goal of the year just 3:10 into the contest. Just two minutes later Peter LeSueur scored his second goal of the year to make it 2-0. But Hofstra closed the gap 2:28 into the second quarter as sophomore Athan Ianucci scored his first goal of the year on a low bullet that beat Hopkins goalie Jesse Schwartzman. Tim Treubig assisted on the goal. Joe Benson scored his first goal of the year for Hopkins four minutes later off a pass from Greg Peyser to make it 3-1. But Hofstra defender Brett Moyer scored the first goal of his career, off a pass from John Orsen, with 7:13 to play in the half to close the deficit to 3-2. Benson and Peyser then scored 50 seconds apart to boost the Blue Jays' lead to 5-2. It was Peyser's fifth goal of the season. Treubig sent the Pride into the locker room at halftime down by two with his third goal of the season on a wrap-around. The Pride jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Chris Unterstein and Athan Ianucci, both scoring their second goals of the year. After Jed Prossner scored the first of his five goals on the night at the 10:41 mark of the first quarter, the Pride boosted the lead to 4-1 on Chris Unterstein s second of the game, and Rob Bonaguro s first goal of the season. UNC senior attack Mike McCall scored the first of his two goals on the night with 3:20 to play in the period to close the gap to 4-2 after one period. There was just one goal in the second quarter but lots of action as UNC goalie Paul Spellman made six saves and allowed just one goal in the period. Keysor scored the first of his three goals for Hofstra almost four minutes into the second quarter which gave the Pride a 5-2 halftime lead. The third quarter was a period of spurts as UNC scored twice in the first 1:32, after goals by Prossner on the man-up, and McCall to close to within 5-4. But Hofstra responded with a man-up goal by Vilar, his third of the year, Keysor, his seventh of the season, and senior short-stick defensive middie James Morgan, who tallied his first of the season and second of his career, to boost the Hofstra lead to 8-4 with 7:53 to play in the third. But the Tar Heels responded with three unanswered goals as Prossner scored twice around a goal by freshman Nick Tintle to make it an 8-7 game heading into the fourth quarter. But Ryan Vilar, who tied his career-high with three goals, scored his second of the game and fourth of the season just 2:07 into the quarter to start a four goal Hofstra run that sealed the victory. Pride junior Ryan Lucas scored his first of the year midway through the fourth to boost the Pride lead to Vilar completed the hat-trick on the man-up with :04 left. Then John Keysor completed the Hofstra scoring with his third goal of the game and eighth of the season with just 5 seconds to play. At the start of Hofstra s fourth quarter run, Pride junior goalie Matt Southard made one of his 10 saves in the contest on a point blank stop of a Ryan Blair shot while a man-down. Prossner closed out the scoring for UNC with an unassisted man-up goal with 22 seconds to play. The Pride put together their most complete game of the season, outshooting the Tar Heels but, more importantly, putting 24 of the 34 shots on the cage. Hofstra also got a big boost as junior Joe Mascaretti won 15 of 22 face-offs. Shuart Stadium. Princeton jumped out to a 2-0 first quarter lead with goals from Jim O'Brien (3:01) and Whitney Hayes (4:03). Hofstra stormed back with three unanswered tallies to take a 3-2 lead with seven minutes remaining in the opening stanza. The Pride got on the board as John Orsen converted an Athan Ianucci feed at 4:49. Chris Unterstein followed with an unassisted tally at 5:58, while Tim Treubig finished of the run with an assist from Ryan Vilar at eight minutes. Mike Guadio evened the scoring at the 12:51 mark to complete the first quarter scoring. The teams traded goals in the second quarter as Scott Sowanick scored off a pass from Peter Trombino to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead at 5:11. Rob Bonaguro tied the score at the 10:3 mark with the first of his three goals with Chris Unterstein getting the assist. In the third quarter, with the score tied at six, the Tigers scored back-to-back goals to take a 7-5 lead with 8:0 remaining. Gaudio scored his second of the day, while Trombino also notched his second tally with an assist from Tripp Shiner. Hofstra would not go quietly as Treubig and Bonaguro scored unassisted at 8:02 and 10:00, respectively, to tie the score at 7. The Tigers broke the tie with 1:24 remaining in the quarter as Jason Danger converted a feed from Trombino to give Princeton an 8-7 advantage. But with time winding down in the quarter, Chris Unterstein passed from behind the cage to his younger brother Mike Unterstein, who beat Princeton reserve goalkeeper Matthew Larkin, with three seconds left in the quarter. Larkin had replaced starting keeper Dave Law at the 10 minute mark of the third quarter. That set the stage for Keycorp s gamewinner, which was initially slowed by Larkin, but managed to trickle over the goal line to give the Pride a 9-8 lead. Athan Ianucci recorded two goals and one assist, and Ryan Vilar had two goals to lead the Pride. Jeff Santucci and Matt McNamara each had a goal and an assist to pace the Bearcats. Hofstra outshot Binghamton 31-1, picked up 33 ground balls to the Bearcats 14, and won 13 of 1 faceoffs.
