Mike Morrison, Ryan Vilar and Tim Treubig each scored twice to lead the Pride.

3 Massachusetts jumped on Hofstra early, scoring seven of the first nine goals to take a 7-2 lead at halftime. Neil Lundberg opened the scoring for UMass 5:15 into the contest with an unassisted goal. Zywicki scored his 19th of the season with 5:58 to play in the quarter, off a pass from Steven Byrnes, and Sean Morris scored an unassisted goal 2:22 later to give the Minutemen a 3-0 lead. Hofstra middie Mike Morrison put Hofstra on the board with a goal off a feed from Jim Femminella with just 28 seconds to play in the quarter. Zywicki and Gene Tundo boosted the UMass lead to 5-1 with goals in the first 3:35 of the second quarter before Vilar scored his first goal of the season with 4:58 to play in the half. But UMass would score twice in the final 13 seconds of the half on unassisted tallies by Fiore and Zywicki to start a 4-0 spurt and give Massachusetts a 7-2 lead at halftime. Christopher Doyle and Tundo scored goals in the first 1:53 of the third to give UMass a 9-2 lead before Hofstra mounted a little rally, scoring four of the next five goals. Tim Treubig scored his first collegiate goal with 8:35 to play in the quarter to cut the gap to 9-3. Fiore would scored UMass' 10th goal less than two minutes later before Ryan Lucas, Vilar, and Morrison (his fifth of the season) scored goals in a 2:30 span to close the gap to But Zywicki ended the Hofstra run with a goal off a pass from Byrnes with 2:19 left in the third to close out the scoring in the period. Treubig scored his second of the game from Morrison 1:07 into the fourth to give Hofstra some hope at But Fiore and Kevin Leveille would score goals in the following two minutes, and Zywicki would add an insurance goal midway through the period to shut the door. The Minutemen outshot Hofstra, 42-30, and were almost perfect in the clearing department, making 24 of 25 clears. Hofstra won 16 face-offs and picked up 35 ground balls to UMass' 27. Bill Schell recorded 10 saves in the Minutemen cage, while Matt Southard made 12 saves but allowed all 14 goals for the Pride. #6 Massachusetts #15 Hofstra Hofstra Scoring (Goals-Assists): Mike Morrison (2-1), Ryan Vilar (2-0), Tim Treubig (2-0), Ryan Lucas (1-0), Joe Kostolansky (0-1), Jim Femminella (0-1) Massachusetts Scoring (Goals-Assists): Jeff Zywicki (5-1), Chris Fiore (3-0), Steven Byrnes (0-3) Gen Tundo (2-0), Sean Morris (1-1), Chris Doyle (1-0), Kevin Leveille (1-0), Neil Lundberg (1-0), Kevin Glenz (0-1) Hofstra UMass Shots: Ground Balls: Face-offs Won: 16 8 Saves: Penalties: 2/2.0 5/3.0 EMO: Clears/Att.: Goalies: HU- Matt Southard (56:43, 12 svs., 14 GA), Steve Izzo (3:17, 0 svs., 0 GA); UM- Bill Schell (60:00, 10 svs., 7 GA) Attendance: 2,592 GAME 17 - MAY 11, 2003 IN AMHERST (NCAA TOURNAMENT): Kevin Leveille scored two of his gamehigh three goals during a key third quarter spurt to lead Massachusetts to a 9-6 victory over Hofstra in a NCAA Division I Men s Lacrosse Tournament first round game at Richard F. Garber Field. In addition to Leveille, Jeff Zywicki added two goals and one assist, Neil Lundberg had two goals, and Chris Fiore added two assists for the Minutemen. Hofstra was led by Ryan Vilar s two goals and John Keysor s one goal and one assist. The Pride, who lost to Massachusetts, 14-7, on March 23 in Hempstead, played the experienced Minutemen much better the second time around, matching their scoring in three of the four quarters. But it was in that one quarter the third that the contest was decided. After playing to a 3-3 tie after one quarter, and a 4-4 score at halftime, the Minutemen erupted for the first three goals of the third quarter and four in the period to take an 8-5 lead at the end of three quarters. Hofstra opened the scoring in the game on its first shot of the contest as Keysor beat UMass goalie Bill Schell from the right side 54 seconds into the contest. But Neil Lundberg scored the first of his two goals on the day at the 4:12 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Vilar scored his seventh of the season 1:16 later to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. Zywicki, UMass leading scorer, notched his 40th goal of the season off a pass from Sean Morris to tie the game at 2-2 less than a minute later. Vilar broke the tie with 4:32 to play in the quarter, before Lundberg tied the game off a pass from Chris Fiore with just 10 seconds remaining in the period. UMass took their first lead of the contest as Chris Doyle scored an unassisted goal 2:32 into the second quarter. But on a two-man advantage, Hofstra s Ryan Lucas took a pass from Mike Morrison and beat Schell with 9:40 to play before halftime. Both teams had chances to take the lead but a shot by Leveille hit the post, and a pointblank shot by Hofstra freshman John Orsen, in the waning seconds of the quarter, was stopped by Schell. The first five minutes of the third quarter were scoreless but UMass got an unfortunate break 3:52 into the period when Pride defender Brian Zuchelli, Hofstra s most experienced defenseman, had to leave the game with a knee injury after a collision with a Minuteman. Just 1:16 later, Gene Tundo fed Leveille who scored the go-ahead goal. Less than two minutes later, Zywicki notched his 41st of the season on a falling down shot from the right side of Southard. Zuchelli returned to the game, but Kevin Glenz scored for Massachusetts after picking up a loose ball in front of Southard with 5:33 to play in the third for a 7-4 lead. Hofstra senior Joe Kostolansky, who

4 led the team in scoring in 2003, notched his 29th goal of the year and the 50th point of his season off a pass from Keysor with 2:41 to play in the third to cut the deficit to 7-5. But Zywicki fed Leveille with 1:06 to play in the quarter to boost the lead to 8-5. The Pride wouldn t quit and showed some life after Chris Unterstein fed Jim Femminella for his team-leading 35th goal of the year that cut the UMass lead to 8-6. But the wind seemed to come out of Hofstra s sails when Zuchelli had to leave the game for good after his knee gave out making a simple turn just 16 seconds after the goal. Leveille would score his third of the game three minutes later to give the Minutemen a 9-6 lead and close out the scoring. Southard posted 11 saves in the Hofstra cage, while Schell tallied nine in the UMass goal. The Minutemen outshot Hofstra by just three, 35-32, but picked up 43 ground balls to the Pride s 24. #10 Hofstra #5 Massachusetts Hofstra Scoring (Goals-Assists): Ryan Vilar (2-0), John Keysor (1-1), Joe Kostolansky (1-0), Jim Femminella (1-0), Ryan Lucas (1-0), Mike Morrison (0-1), Chris Unterstein (0-1) Massachusetts Scoring (Goals-Assists): Kevin Leveille (3-0), Jeff Zywicki (2-1)Neil Lundberg (2-0), Christopher Fiore (0-2), Christopher Doyle (1-0), Kevin Glenz (1-0), Sean Morris (0-1), Gene Tundo (0-1) Hofstra UMass Shots: Ground Balls: Face-offs Won: 6 13 Saves: 11 9 Penalties: EMO: Clears/Att.: Goalies: HU- Matt Southard (60:00, 11 svs., 9 GA); Massachusetts- Bill Schell (60:00, 9 svs., 6 GA) Attendance: 2,031 USILA GEICO/STX COACHES POLL: Here is the USILA Coaches Poll, as of March 22, 2004: No. Team (1 st pl. votes) W-L Pts. But the damage was done as the Irish had scored seven times, all at even-man situations, in the first 15 minutes. Not only did the Irish take an insurmountable lead in the first quarter, Hofstra did not get off a shot as Notre Dame outshot the Pride 17-0 in the first quarter. Hofstra goalie Matt Southard recorded five of his 12 total saves in the first quarter. But Hofstra seemed to right the ship in the second as Ianucchi s second goal closed the gap to 7-2 with 10:49 to play in the half and gave the Pride hope. But Walsh scored his second of the game and 11th of the season 26 seconds later to start a 3-0 Irish run that boosted the Notre Dame lead to But Hofstra did not quit and goals by Unterstein (2nd of the season), Rob Bonaguro (2nd) and Ryan Vilar (10th) brought the Pride back to 11-5 at halftime. Irish senior Dan Berger scored his eighth goal of the year eight seconds into the second half to bump the Notre Dame lead to But Pride sophomore Tim Treubig (11th) and Unterstein closed the gap to five seven minutes later. After Matt Karweck tallied his ninth of the year with 6:28 to play in the third, Unterstein scored his third of the game and the fourth of his season, on the man-up, a minute later to close to It would be as close as Hofstra would get as Berger scored 2:56 before the end of the third, and Hubschmann scored 2:49 into the fourth for a 15-8 lead. Shuart Stadium. The Big Red used a big third quarter in which they scored seven of the first eight goals, to erase an 8-6 deficit and then held on for the victory. Sophomore middie Tim Treubig scored four goals while classmate John Keysor added three goals to lead the Pride. Cornell held the upper hand early taking a 2-0 lead after 2:11 on goals by juniors Sean Greenhalgh and Justin Redd. But the young Hofstra team, that features 30 players with one year or less of Division I experience, played the Big Red even the rest of the quarter, exchanging goals, and trailed 5-3 after one period. The Pride then went on a 5-0 run in the second quarter as Treubig scored his third goal of the game 39 seconds into the period, and freshman Athan Ianucci scored his first college goal 1:30 later to tie the contest at 5-5. Treubig would score his fourth of the game off a pass from Ianucci 1:05 later to give the Pride their first lead of the game. Junior middie Ryan Vilar scored a man-up goal off a pass from Ianucci with 7:27 to play in the half, and Vilar would feed Ryan Lucas for the Pride s fifth straight goal at the 3:51 mark to give Hofstra an 8-5 lead. But Boulukos would score his first goal of the season off a pass from Justin Redd to end the Pride run, close the scoring in the half with Cornell trailing 8-6, and more importantly, starting a Big Red spurt of their own. Like Hofstra had done in the second period, Cornell scored twice in the first 2:10 of the period as Greenhalgh and Boulukos scored unassisted goals to tie the game at 8-8. Boulukos, the second year player from Huntington, Long Island, scored his second of the game 2:30 later. Greenhalgh added his fourth of the game with 7:09 to play in the quarter, and Boulukos would scored Cornell s sixth unanswered goal with 6:20 to play in the third to give the Big Red an 11-8 lead. Keysor would stop the Cornell run two minutes later off a pass from Ryan Vilar but Boulukos and Brian Clayton scored 1:10 apart to boost the Big Red lead to Keysor would score two more goals in the final 1:15 of the quarter to close the gap to after three periods, and freshman Tom Brewer scored his first college 1:27 into the fourth quarter to close to within one at But Andrew Collins scored his first goal of the season with 8:31 to play to give Cornell a two-goal cushion and the Big Red held on the rest of the way for the victory. I am proud of the way that we have progressed offensively the past two weeks, Hofstra Head Coach John Danowski said. We played hard and didn t give up against a tough Cornell team. I think the difference was that we didn t make the plays that we needed to down the stretch and Cornell did. Cornell freshman goalie Matt McMonagle recorded 12 saves in his debut while Hofstra sophomore Matt Southard posted 11 saves in the Pride cage, The Pride outshot Cornell but were crushed at the face-off X, losing 20 of 28 draws. 10 Attendance: 1,429 GAME 2 - MARCH 6, 2004 vs. #7 LOYOLA: What started off poorly ended in thrilling fashion as Hofstra sophomore attackman Ryan Lucas tallied a man-up goal with 4:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to break an 8-8 tie and give the 19th-ranked Pride a 9-8 victory over seventh-ranked Loyola on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. The victory snapped the Pride's ninegame losing streak to the Greyhounds and improved Hofstra's record on the season to 1-1. Loyola fell to 1-1. After Pride sophomore middie Tim Treubig opened the scoring just 44 seconds into the contest, the Greyhounds jumped on Hofstra, dominating face-offs and seemingly scoring at will while building a 4-1 lead after just 2:30. To be fair, two of Loyola's goals were caused by failed Hofstra clears deep in the Pride zone. But the Pride did not fold and battled back on goals by sophomore middies John Orsen and John Keysor and freshman attackman Athan Ianucci to tie the game at 4-4 after one period. The Greyhounds won all nine face-offs in the period and picked up 18 ground balls but Hofstra sophomore goalie Matt Southard made five saves to keep the Pride in the contest. Loyola regained the lead in the second quarter as two-time All-American Stephen Brundage scored his third goal of the season 2:13 into the period. Another miscue in the Pride defensive zone led to Craig Georgalas' unassisted goal with 7:37 to play in the half that gave the Greyhounds a 6-4 lead at halftime. After a scoreless 8:35 of the third quarter, Hofstra came alive. Freshman long-stick middie Julian Watts scored his first college goal and brought Hofstra back to within one at 6-5 with an unassisted tally. But freshman Matt Cassalia scored his third goal of the year just 1:20 later to boost the Loyola lead to 7-5. Hofstra's Ryan Vilar then took over. The junior middie scored three consecutive unassisted goals, including two in the first 4:13 of the fourth quarter, to give the Pride an 8-7 lead. Brundage tied the game at 8-8 with his second goal of the game and fourth of the season just two minutes later. With 5:24 to play in regulation, Greyhound sophomore defender Michael Graham was whistled off for a slashing penalty.on the man-up, Vilar found Lucas, who beat Loyola goalie Michael Fretwell (7 saves), for his third goal of the year. Pride goalie Matt Southard, who had five of his 18 saves in the fourth quarter, and the Hofstra defense stymied the Greyhounds the rest of the way. The Pride's last victory over Loyola, before Saturday, came in 1993 when Hofstra defeated the thenfifth-ranked Greyhounds at Shuart Stadium. The victory marked the third consecutive year and four times in the last five seasons that the Pride have defeated a Top 7 opponent. #7 Loyola #19 Hofstra Hofstra Scoring (Goals-Assists): Ryan Vilar (3-1), Athan Ianucci (1-1), Ryan Lucas (1-0), Tim Treubig (1-0), John Orsen (1-0), John Keysor (1-0), Julian Watts (1-0), Chris Unterstein (0-1). Jason Doneger tallied the first of his three goals almost three minutes into the contest to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. Princeton added two more goals over the next 2:38 before the Pride got on the board with an unassisted goal from John Keysor at the 5:45 mark of the first quarter. The two goal deficit for Hofstra would be the smallest of the day as the Tigers would score two straight over the next 16:36 to open a 5-1 advantage following Doneger s second goal of the game. Tim Treubig would pull Hofstra within three at half as he scored off an assist from Keysor with 2:31 left before halftime. Ryan Boyle scored 1:14 into the third quarter to give Princeton its first four goal lead of the game, 6-2. Hofstra would look to make a run and Steven Wax forced a Tiger turnover at midfield and fed Chris Unterstein for his first goal of the season to pull the Pride within three, 6-3 with 13:24 remaining. That would be as close as Hofstra would get the remainder of the contest though, as Doneger notched his third and Whitney Hayes scored his second of the game to push the advantage up to five with 9:34 left in the third quarter. The two teams would each tally two goals in the final 18:35 as the Tigers evened the alltime series with the Pride at nine and have won the last seven meetings. Notre Dame improved to 2-3 on the season, while the Pride, who dropped their third consecutive contest, fell to 2-4. Irish junior Brian Giordano tied a career-high with five goals, while sophomore middie Brian Hubschmann added a career-high four goals and posted one assist, and sophomore Pat Walsh chipped in with two goals and three assists. The Pride were led by freshman attackman Athan Ianucci with a career-high four goals and one assist, while sophomore Chris Unterstein added three goals and one assist. The Pride couldn t seem to get their game legs until 17 minutes after the opening face-off as Ianucci dented the twine off with a man-up goal off a pass from Tim Treubig 3:26 into the second period. But Walsh scored his second of the game and 11th of the season 26 seconds later to start a 3-0 Irish run that boosted the Notre Dame lead to But Hofstra did not quit and goals by
