1 HOCKEY CLUB INFORMATION BOOKLET 2018 Welcome to the 2018 hockey season This is an outline of information which we hope will answer most of your questions regarding hockey at Bethlehem College. Information throughout this year will be found on our website page: We will be updating the website during the year, and most information will be available on line. Starting dates/game days/nights Below are the details of the 2018 competition nights. (Subject to change) Please look regularly on the Tauranga Hockey Website: Game times, draws and competition information will be listed as well as lots of other interesting information. SECONDARY SCHOOL START DATES 1 st XI Boys/Girls Wednesday Evening (start date to be confirmed) 2 nd XI Boys/Girls Tuesday Evening (start date to be confirmed) 3 rd XI Boys & Girls Monday Evening (start date to be confirmed) KWIK STICKS Intermediate 11 aside Boys/Girls Friday Evening (start date to be confirmed) SMALL STICKS - Primary Teams - Mixed Mini & Kiwi (year 3 6) Funsticks (year 1 2) Equipment & Uniform: The following equipment is required for all hockey players. Hockey Stick Shin Pads Mouth Guard Sports Shoes Socks (available from uniform shop) Saturday Morning (start date to be confirmed) Saturday Morning (start date to be confirmed) 1 st XI Boys & Girls receive a club uniform and pay a uniform levy. 2 nd & 3 rd XI Boys - need to purchase a uniform from the uniform shop if they don t already have one - Shorts/Shirt 2 nd & 3 rd XI Girls need to purchase a uniform from the uniform shop if they don t already have one Dress Kwik Sticks Boys (yrs 7 & 8) - need to purchase a uniform from the uniform shop if they don t already have one - Shorts/Shirt Kwik Sticks Girls (yrs 7 & 8) need to purchase a uniform from the uniform shop if
2 they don t already have one Dress Small Sticks (yrs 3 6) receive a club shirt and pay a uniform levy. Fun Sticks (yrs 1 2) use their PE uniform Pre-season Musters and Trials Please note: 2018 Pre season Hockey training sessions for Years 9-13 have commenced on Sunday s at Hockey turf from 4 pm - 6 pm. Any students who wish to trial for Boys or Girls 1st XI hockey teams are strongly encouraged to attend. Any Year 9-13 student keen to improve their fitness and hockey prior to the season starting is welcome to attend. A separate Document for Musters and Trials times is now available to view on the website. Musters and Trials will run from 25 Feb through to 29 th March. Intermediate Musters and trials dates are also posted in the document available on the website. PLEASE NOTE: If you are unable to trial, you must contact Lincoln Churchill with your reason: linchockey@gmail.com Umpires We are always looking for new umpires to be trained as well as experienced umpires to umpire more senior teams. Student umpires are paid a small token of appreciation each week, by the team they umpire for. (This is usually $10 - $15 per game depending on the umpire s level of experience, and level they are umpiring). There will be opportunities for new umpires to be trained and supported through both Hockey and Tauranga Hockey. There will also be opportunities for experienced umpires to up skill. Please your name and contact details to: bethcollegehockey@gmail.com if you are interested in umpiring in Coaches / Assistant Coaches / Managers We are always looking for willing and keen Coaches and Managers. If you are able to Coach / Assist or Manage a team please register Online via the Volunteers Option so we can contact you and discuss your options. Students in Year 10 may wish to offer their services to be an Assistant Coach as an opportunity to complete their Community Service commitments. Assistant Coaching is also an opportunity for Sports Science students wishing to gain Coaching experience by working with a Coach for a season.
3 Fees/Costs Below fees are based on budgeted 2018 costs as Tauranga Hockey Association fees for 2018 have not yet been ratified. Website information will be altered as soon as we receive the updated information. THA THA DOH and Club Assn Fee Turf Fee D/Officer Equip Uniform Admin Total 1 st XI Boys/Girls XI Boys/Girls XI Boys/Girls Kwik Sticks Boys/Girls (Intermediate) Small Sticks Kiwi (yr 5&6) Small Sticks - Mini (yr 3&4) Small Sticks - Funsticks (yr 1&2) 13 weeks Coaching Costs: Both Boys and Girls 1 st Xl and 2 nd XI teams will be coached by professional coaches in 2018 and a Coaching levy will apply depending on the time commitment and experience of the Coach: Girls 1 st XI $375 per player Boys 1 st XI $200 per player Girls 2 nd XI $100 per player Boys 2 nd XI $100 per player Coaching Costs are in addition to Season fees. Fitness Costs: The Hockey Club engages the service of a professional Fitness Coach. All 1 st XI players are expected to attend Fitness sessions as well as training sessions. The cost of these sessions will be confirmed by the team Coach and Manager once these sessions are confirmed. For all other teams every endeavour will be made to appoint experienced and willing Coaches from within the parent community, however where this is not possible a professional Coach may be sought, and a Coaching levy may apply. The levy amount will depend on the experience and time commitment of the Coach. Tournaments: Pre Season 1 st Xl Boys and /or Girls teams may compete in a preseason tournament in March / April. If so there will be an additional cost per player to cover the cost of any travel and accommodation for
4 this tournament. The team manager will prepare a budget and advise this cost to players selected. Winter Tournament (Sun 2 - Sat 8 rd Sept 2018) The Boys 1 st Xl will travel to Rotorua this year. The Girls 1 st Xl will travel to Whangarei. Winter tournament approx. cost is $1, per 1 st Xl player. All players who are selected for the 1 st Xl teams are expected to be available for tournament. 2 nd Xl teams may travel to tournament if there is sufficient interest. Goalie Gear If you are a Goalie wanting to use gear for Representative hockey, there will be a rental charge of $200 for the season for wear and tear on the Hockey Club equipment. Tauranga Holiday Coaching and Hockey NZ Coach Clinics Sessions Run by Tauranga Hockey Association for all year groups, for times and dates please refer to Tauranga Hockey website regularly: Registration On - Line via Schools E Form Please register Online using the schools Eforms. The registration website will be available for registering from Monday 26 February If you have any problems with this form please contact the Sports Office on or sportsadmin@beth.school.nz. Please ensure you register as a Volunteer if you wish to Coach or Manage or bethcollegehockey@gmail.com Registrations can only be done by parents since it includes a formal agreement for the fees to be charged on your school account. Please note: All players must register to play hockey before being placed in a team. IMPORTANT - All players who register, trial and are then placed in a team but then withdraw from hockey WILL BE charged an administration fee. If you are unable to register electronically a paper registration form can be found on the Bethlehem College Website (front page under notices called Winter Sports Registration) which can be completed and dropped into the school or sports office.
5 FUNDRAISING EVENTS: The Hockey Club is currently planning fundraising events for the season. Please be prepared to help in whatever way you can. Funds raised go towards replacing hockey equipment, and providing more development opportunities for all players. SPONSORSHIP: We currently have a number of fantastic sponsorship opportunities which could showcase your business. These opportunities including sponsors name on our new uniforms, hockey bags and / or signage at our wonderful facility.
