1 Date: April 28, 2018; 7:30AM - 2:30PM Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Shootout Rules Location**: Honda Center Parking Lot; 2695 E. Katella Avenue; Anaheim, CA **In the event that there is a scheduling conflict with the Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule, we will have an alternate location available. Description The 11th Annual Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Street Hockey Shootout at Honda Center will consist of a 32 school street hockey tournament along with street hockey minigames, concessions, music, prizes, and special Anaheim Ducks guest appearances for everyone. Families, friends, and classmates are encouraged to come out and cheer on their school. In addition, the tournament will continue to focus on teamwork, fair play, and respect for others. All teams in this tournament are guaranteed a minimum of four games playing in pool and bracket play formats. Sportsmanship Focus The S.C.O.R.E. Shootout emphasizes the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork. During the opening ceremony, all players (parents and coaches) will take part in the S.C.O.R.E. players oath collectively. 2 Awards The Ducks will present the following awards at the event: A. Sportsmanship Award: Each coach will have the ability to nominate ONE member of the team to receive a sportsmanship award. These players will receive their prizes during the mid-day awards ceremony. B. MVP Award: The MVP award will be given to the most valuable player of the tournament. C. Championship Medals: First, second, and third place schools will be awarded with medals at the conclusion of the championship game. The winning school will receive a championship banner and have its school name and players engraved onto the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Shootout Cup. The school will also receive tickets to an Anaheim Ducks game next season and be presented their medals by Anaheim Ducks management. D. Spirit Stick: The school showing the most spirit will have an opportunity to win the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Sprit Stick. A school who demonstrates a high level of sportsmanship, brings a large and dedicated fan base (classmates, parents, and administration), and displays support of the team through school colors and signs will be considered for this award. Tournament Rules TEAMS - Each team must consist of ONLY 4 th grade students with a MINIMUM of six students and must be co-ed. Six players from each team occupy the rink during game play. The MAXIMUM number of students on a team is 16. Alternate or back-up players will not be allowed. PLAYERS All participants must have a participant release form filled out by a parent or guardian prior to competing in the tournament. EQUIPMENT - Schools are required to bring their own equipment to this event. All equipment must be from the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. allotment. Equipment that is not part of this program, such as sticks used for ice or roller hockey, cannot be used for this competition. Although gloves, elbow pads, helmets, and knee pads are also not allowed, students are recommended to wear lightweight soccer shin guards fully covered by socks for this tournament. Finally, athletic shoes are required to participate. 2

3 a) The Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Shootout hockey sticks must be of the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Bauer allocation. Please do not cut your sticks. b) Please do not modify the curvature of the stick blade or wrap it with hockey tape. c) Please do not tape the shaft or handle of the stick for advantageous purposes such as to increase the grip of the stick. d) Please do not add an end cap to the stick. JERSEYS - The Ducks will provide jerseys for each team on the day of the tournament. Participants are allowed to keep their jerseys after the event. TIME - Games will consist of two 10-minute halves with a one-minute half time break. All games will be running clock except for the championship match. Each team has one 30-second timeout. STOPPAGES IN PLAY All stops in play will result in a face-off situation at the nearest face-off spot (five locations) where the stop in play occurred. Stops in play can occur when the street hockey ball is shot over the hockey boundaries, penalties, or when the goalie covers/holds the ball for a few seconds. Except for the championship game, stops in play will not stop the running clock. PENALTIES AND VIOLATIONS A. Penalties All penalties will be called during the game. Please refer to pages 10, 11, and 12 in the student workbook regarding penalties. All penalties will result in a penalty shot for the other team. In addition, a player that commits a penalty with intent to injure will be subject to immediate removal from the tournament based upon the decision of the referee. 3

4 B. Goalies Delay of Game Penalty In order to maintain safety among players as well as create a consistent flow of play, goalies can only cover or play the ball inside of the playable area (denoted in green). Playing the ball outside this area will result in a delay of game penalty as well as a penalty shot for the other team. C. Unsportsmanlike Conduct The S.C.O.R.E. Shootout is an event celebrating hockey and sportsmanship between schools. There is a zero-tolerance policy for actions violating the S.C.O.R.E. code of conduct. Players, coaches and non-playing team representatives are responsible for their conduct at all times. This includes before games, during games or after games. Referees will assess penalties and/or eject any players, coaches, and non-playing team representatives failing to uphold proper conduct. Furthermore, only participants and coaches listed on the roster will be allowed near the players bench. The head coach is the only representative who can speak to referees during the game and/or enter the rink. Anyone who violates this rule will be assessed a penalty and in more serious cases, ejected from the event. C. Penalty Shots There are two types of penalties or penalty shots that teams will encounter: 1. Specific infraction A player who was affected by a penalty will be awarded the penalty shot. Specific infractions include tripping, roughing, or a high stick penalty that has struck an opposing player. If a goalie was affected by the penalty, then any player on the rink at the time of the infraction will be able to take the penalty shot. 4

5 2. General infraction This occurs when none of the players on the rink have been directly affected by a penalty. A non-contact high stick, too many men, unsportsmanlike conduct, and delay of game penalties will award the other team a penalty shot. The coach can then select a player who was on the rink at the time of the infraction to take the shot. All penalty shots will begin at center rink. Once the ball has been shot, play will stop and a face-off at center rink will restart play. D. Violations Out-of-bounds violations will not be called since all rinks will be enclosed within 1-2 tall borders. SAFETY - Goalies must wear all equipment properly to ensure their safety. Although not required, it is recommended that goalies wear a protective cup during play. Also, we recommend a mouth guard for all participants to prevent any accidental injuries. An on-site EMT will be available throughout the duration of the tournament to treat participants of their injuries. LINE CHANGES Substitutions can be made during a stop in play or on-thefly, meaning that players can switch out while play is occurring. Game Format for 32 Team Tournament a. Group Play Format Your school was randomly drawn and placed into one of eight groups (A-H) comprised of four teams each. Each school will play at least three games during group play and one in the tournament round. Please read below for the scoring rules. Group Play Scoring Rules 1. At the end of group play, teams in each group will be seeded 1-4 based on the following scoring structure. WIN = 2 points TIE = 1 point LOSS = 0 points Note: For group seeding, teams with the same point total will be decided by A) head-tohead record. If the tie is not broken using A, then the following will be used: B) wins, C) goal differential, and D) fewest goals allowed. 5

6 2a. Seeds 1 and 2 in each group will advance to the championship bracket. They will be ranked b. Each remaining team will participate in a consolation game as seeds b. Bracket Play Format The 16 teams in the championship bracket will play in single elimination play. Note: For bracket seeding, teams with the same point total will first be decided by A) wins, then B) goal differential, and C) fewest goals allowed. Regulation and Overtime All games except for the championship game will be running clock. Each game will consist of two 10-minute halves with a 1-minute break. There is a 30-second timeout available for each team. While games can end in a tie during group play, bracket play will end in a 5-minute sudden death overtime (running clock) and a three player shootout if no goal is scored during that time. After three rounds of the shootout, the team with the most goals scored wins. If no team is decided after three rounds, each coach must select a new player to participate in the shootout for the next round and will continue to do so until a winner is determined. Day of Event/Other Information 1. Parking: Please park on the south side of the Honda Center parking lot. It s important that all participants and spectators use the crosswalk to get across Douglass Ave. 2. Check-in: On the day of the event, please plan on arriving to the event site by 6:30AM to check-in the team and pick up player jerseys. Also, we ll have a brief coaches meeting at 7:00AM. We hope to do all these things by 7:15AM so that you can have enough time to distribute jerseys to your players and prepare for the opening ceremony festivities at 7:45AM. 3. Students arrival time: The opening ceremony at 7:45AM will take place at the main rink (rink #1) followed by the singing of our Nation s anthem. Please tell students to head to the rink by 7:30AM. 6

7 4. Sportsmanship focus: Once again, the S.C.O.R.E. Shootout will be highlighting the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork. During the opening ceremony, all players (and coaches) will take part in the S.C.O.R.E. players oath collectively. Please see page 1 of this letter for this oath. Also, each coach will have the ability to nominate one member of the team to receive a sportsmanship award that will be presented at the mid-day awards ceremony. During your last game of the pool play round, please inform the scorer s table of your nomination. 5. Street hockey equipment: Please remember to bring one stick per player as well as goalie equipment to the tournament. We will replace sticks, stick blades, and goalie equipment if they are damaged during game play. 6. Food: All coaches and players on the submitted rosters will receive a food voucher good for one free meal. Food vouchers will be in your check-in kit (containing jerseys, game programs, rosters, etc.) and can be redeemed at the concessions tent. Spectators at the event will be able to purchase breakfast and lunch items throughout the event. 7. Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Shootout posters and flyers: These printed items will be sent to your school to encourage other students, teachers, and parents to cheer on your team at Honda Center. The school with the most enthusiastic fans at the event will receive the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. School Spirit Award a framed autographed signed stick. 7

8 8. School Village: Your school can use their 20 x 20 designated area as a meeting/resting place between games. Due to the expansion of the tournament field, you will be allowed to set-up tables, one 10 x 10 tent, ice chests, chairs, etc. in this area. Only light-weight portable chairs are allowed outside this area and near the rinks. From 5:30am-7:00 am, an access road leading to a School Village drop-off area will be open to all participants. This road is located off of Douglass Avenue and will re-open after the tournament. 8
