2 Campbell River Gun Club December Accomplishments President s Report An-Old Champion grader was obtained by the club, thanks to Harry Cole, Larry Dugan, Francis Scott and Dennis Tipper. It is working well Upgrades of IPSC alleys & Law Enforcement range to keep all shots fired within the active range area. Thanks to Denny Garneau, Don Sundquist & Dennis Tipper Added short range backstop to 200yd range Covered 300yd backstop to keep brush down Alders & hemlock snags encroaching on power-line and road were removed thanks to Al Larson Purchased Security Cameras for the IPSC and Trap buildings Junior program greatly expanded thanks to Mark Johnson More new members from out of town -More money in the bank for future land purchase The most members that the CRGC has ever had, 576 Things to come in 2014 Build a cover over kitchen trailer Investigate building a Skeet range Start negotiations to purchase shooting range lands Get power at front gate to give us more opportunities with security and ease of access Insulate and cover warm-up rooms on the Rifle ranges More road upgrading Refine baffle system on Law Enforcement range Possible Timber Sale behind the 200yd range Good shooting, Greg

3 IPSC Report On Saturday & Sunday 6 th + 7 th July 2013 the IPSC section hosted the Donald B Neratini Memorial Double Header which formed the basis for ISL Qualifiers #4 & #5. Joe Strachan was Match Director for both events. Anticipating a large turnout Joe reduced the number of stages to 7 (both days) but kept the round count high at 159 & 161 respectively. Joe was also able to keep match expenses to a paltry $25 this year as all laths & some old-style targets were recycled. Many thanks to Mark Johnstone and all IPSC members that make time to have the props & range ready. This year was a record for the CRGC's IPSC section in both attendance & proceeds. Attendance was up 50% from This year there were 81 shooters from the Lower Mainland & Vancouver Island competing for top honors. Results (1 st thru 3 rd ) were: On Saturday Open Class Jeff Blois, Vern Cann & yours truly and Standard Class Oleg Matveenko, Joe Strachan & Chris Archibald. On Sunday Open Class Jim Wilbur, Barb Neratini & Vern Cann and Standard Class Oleg Matveenko, Trevor Herrmann & Kevin Wheatcroft. For the record, there were 41 shooters Saturday & 40 Sunday. Last year's observation has become a trend with more shooters turning out for ISL matches (generally speaking), greater demand for Black Badge certification and more new members in the our clubs IPSC section. Financially 2013 was also a record with total profit to the CRGC exceeding $1,319 (vs $877 in 2012). Profits derived from shooting (46%) & food services (54%) were about equal. Last year s Pig Roast was so well received the section decided to duplicate it this year. Like most things, this is easily said but a much taller order to deliver. A total of 56 dinners were served. Members and their spouse's contribute much of their time, skill and organizational abilities to make the BBQ lunches & dinners served seamless, delicious, and memorable. Several special thank you s are in order here: Wayne & Freddie Leggett who caught, processed, prepared & served Dungeness cracked crab on ice & Prawns for every dinner. They also prepared & served lunches to hungry shooters on both Saturday & Sunday. Laura Sloan & Anne Johnstone for being hostesses to us all. Someone has to shoulder the responsibility for seeing that a sit-down dinner for 50+ comes off without a hitch. Laura begins planning and shopping for some items as early as March. They prepare many items from scratch plus see to it that it all hits the table piping hot on queue. In short, it all comes off leaving a chocolate smile on everyone's face as many of the photos revealed.

4 Neil Toop for building on last years experience and making very specific changes that improved this year s pig roast. The pig was brined for an extra day and was placed on the spit an hour earlier Saturday morning. The pig was done to perfection again this year. Don Sloan took on an additional project this year and is the man to thank for the new flush toilet which he designed & installed in advance of the matches. The BBQ pit did a great job again this year. All CRGC sections are encouraged to use this asset for their own purposes whenever it suits them. Bob Dixon Senior Smallbore Sr. Smallbore is still alive and well. Three to 6 people a night but could do with more. Ladies will still shoot for free so come on out. Bench rest and standing are the norm. We will let everyone have fun. Centerfire Report -We have been averaging 17 shooters/match. Coming from Vancouver, Victoria, Parksville, Bowser, Courtenay & Gold River -In July & August we held our 100/200 yd. formal BR group shoots -In September we held our first 600 yd. BR group and score shoot -We are holding a Fun BR Turkey Shoot on Dec.15 Greg Junior Smallbore This year has seen a great improvement with the number of juniors shooting. We are back on track to making an influence on the shooting world again. The group had to be split into under 10 year olds shooting from 6:00 to 7:00. Then the older ones shoot from 7:00 to about 8:30 or so. There have been times when we have needed 3 relays. You sure can go through a lot of 22 shells when you have that many people. I now have help from parents and other club members with

5 the juniors. We do a lot of cleaning too. One of the parents has started helping with coaching and is planning to go to a coaching course in the new year. Some of our juniors went to the BC Provincials and came back with gold. We have one trying out for the Canada Winter games. One went to his first Richmond air gun match. Some working to the North American Indigenous Games. I am sure a large group will be going to the provincials next year too. Mark Pistol Section Report As most members know by now, the pistol range is now open, with new overhead and ground baffles installed. Many thanks to our President Greg, Vice President Dennis and helpers Denny and Don. All reports indicate that the work has made a significant improvement to the safety of this range. We are now shooting regularly, every Thursday, at the indoor range on Quinsam road. Four shooters are taking part in the WIPL postal match, and there are spaces for other shooters. The Richmond Hibernation match saw many of the regular shooters with only a few new faces turning up. The turnout in general was low so this match may not happen again I am sad to say. We did not have any pistol shooters enter from Campbell River but Mo Johnson and Mark Johnson were down to help with the match and coaching. No new records but it was all fun. Ralph Miller. Other News This year has been a record year for the number of memberships in the club. There will be a new main gate key this year. Changeover is January 1. Memberships all roll over January first. Many shooters have signed up for 2014, thank you.
