2 Bow View Ringette is pleased to host its 3 rd Annual Jingle Ring Tournament. We would like to welcome all teams participating this year! We are excited to be hosting 11 divisions ranging from Active Start to U19A. A heartfelt thank-you to all of our sponsors for supporting the Jingle Ring Tournament as well thank you to our many volunteers, for helping make this tournament a success! We will also have the Tim Hortons s Truck located just outside the Great Plains arena Friday November 24 & Sunday November 26 serving coffee and hot chocolate from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on Friday and 8:00 am to 5:30 pm on Sunday. There will not be a concession at HDC Arena; however there are fast food chains and restaurants close by. During the second weekend of the tournament there will be at least one Food truck located just outside the Great Plains arena Friday December 8 & Saturday December 9. Play It Again Sports will be on site at Great Plains Arena both weekends with ringette merchandise for sale. Stick Fix has a permanent location at Great Plains Arena for your skate sharpening needs. 3 Please note dressing rooms at Great Plain require a padlock which is NOT PROVIDED. If you wish to lock your dressing room door (which we strongly encourage) please bring a padlock with you. Heart and Hustle will be awarded to one player per team for every round robin game. Coaches will select the player from their own team that best suits this award. 5 The Jingle Ring Tournament is proud to support the Calgary Food Bank during our tournament weekends at both Great Plains Arena and HDC Arena. Please bring non-perishable food items to support the Calgary food bank. The Food Donation wish list is attached. With the tough economic times and the Christmas Season, the Calgary Food bank needs our help more than ever. Did you know that? 170,093 Calgarians have received emergency food support 262 Emergency hampers are given our per day 41% of the Food banks clients are children 21% of the Food banks clients are single parent households 1 in 5 parents skip meals so their children can eat Every day the volunteer to staff ratio at the Calgary Food bank is 3:1 Every $1 donated equals $5 of Food Distributed The Calgary Food bank has provided 3,000,000+ meals to hungry Calgarians and the Calgary Food bank pays it forward by giving to 37 other food banks across Canada for emergencies. 7 COACHES GAME We will be hosting coaches games during both weekends at Great Plains Arena. This is a fun activity that we hope all teams will participate in. It will be a lot of fun for the kids to cheer you on so bring your teams out and encourage their support. On Saturday November 25 at 3:20 - One coach (Head coach or designate) from every team participating that weekend (U10 Step 3 to U19) is encouraged to play. We are hosting 7 divisions of 4 teams each so that s 28 coaches. We will split you into two teams and have our U19A goalies play net for you. Please BVJingleRing@gmail.com to register a coach for your team. Please include division, team name and participating coach s name. On Saturday December 9 at 5:25 - Three coaches from every team participating that weekend (U14A and U14B) are encouraged to play. We are hosting 2 divisions of 4 teams each (times 3) so that s 24 coaches. We will split you into two teams and have our U19A goalies play net for you. Please BVJingleRing@gmail.com to register a coach for your team. Please include division, team name and participating coach s name. Coaches will require: o Skates, Helmets (CSA Approved), Sticks and Gloves are all mandatory, however you can wear as much protective gear as you d like. Pinnies will be provided but must be returned. o Goalies will be in full gear. o There is a 5 goal limit per player o Ringette Canada Rules will be followed o 2-20 minute stop time periods, 3 minute warmup, 2 minute break between periods Jingle Ring Tournament 2017 Page 7 of 22

8 TOURNAMENT FORMAT 1) Games a) U10 Step 3, U12, U14, U16 and U19 teams will play 3 round robin games and one playoff game b) All team must be available to play their first game at 7:00am Friday November 24, 2017 c) Each game will have a three (3) minute warm up d) Each game will have a two (2) minute halftime between periods e) Shot clocks will be used in divisions U12-U19 f) Game Duration: i) AS Two (2) twenty (20) minute running time periods with a 2 minute buzzer ii) U10 Step 1 Two (2) twenty (20) minute stop time periods with a 2 minute buzzer iii) U10 Step 3 Two (2) eighteen (18) minute stop time periods iv) U12/U14 Two (2) eighteen (18) minute stop time periods v) U16/U19 Two (2) twenty-three (23) minutes stop time periods We are pleased to offer our Active Start and U10 Step 1 divisions the opportunity to play at Calgary s brand new Hockey Development Centre. It is a smaller ice surface (55 x 135 ) that is ideal for these groups to learn and have fun in a right-sized way. There are no finals for Active Start or Step 1 as it is a friendship-style tournament that is focused on fun and healthy participation. 2) Modifications for Active Start FRIENDSHIP FORMAT The Jingle Ring will be using game rules as per Ringette Calgary s December 1st onward style of game for Active Start only. That is, full ice, with referees. One coach from each team is encouraged to be on the ice with their players, helping them to learn as they participate. The following Active Start game modifications apply: a) Each team will play 3 round robin games only. b) Games will be full ice with a referee. c) There shall be no overtime (a tie is a tie). d) Teams will not change ends for the second period, they will remain on the end closest to their bench. 9 e) A maximum of one (1) coach from each team is allowed on the ice. The coach or designate who participates on-ice during a game is required to wear skates and CSA approved protective headgear. f) Blue lines will be worked in, but not strictly enforced. g) Time will be posted on the scoreboard but scores will not. h) Game reports will be used for the purposes of tracking the 3 goal per player limit. No player is to be credited with more than three (3) goals in any game. Goals scored in excess of this by any player shall NOT be recorded on the game report, posted on the score clock, or counted in the final score at the end of the game. i) Extra time can be given at period break for the teams to do a cheer. j) No penalties will be called, but rather, the penalty will be explained to the offending player by the referee to facilitate learning of the rules. k) No Goalie Equipment will be used other than a goalie stick. Goalies will change every shift. Players will not play goal for an entire game. l) Small nets are to be used for all games. 3) Modifications for U10 Step 1 FRIENDSHIP FORMAT For U10 Step 1, the Ringette Calgary pre-nov 30 rules apply. They are as follows: a) Each team will play 3 round robin games only. b) Games will be full ice with a referee. c) There shall be no overtime (a tie is a tie). d) Teams must change ends for the second period. During warmup as well as the first period teams will play on the end farthest from their bench and in the second period they will play on the side closest to their bench. e) A maximum of one (1) coach from each team is allowed on the ice. The coach or designate who participates on-ice during a game is required to wear skates and CSA approved protective headgear. f) Blue lines will be enforced. g) Scores shall be posted on the score clock with a maximum five (5) goal spread. h) Game reports will be used for the purposes of tracking the 3 goal per player limit. Teams MAY substitute for the penalized player. The primary focus will be to have the Players learn the rules of Ringette. The On-Ice Official making the call will explain each violation to the offending Player and the Coach (should it be necessary). Penalties are not to be served in the penalty box. k) The "4 or 5 in" violations will be waived if the on-ice coach notices and calls the player out without impacting play. l) Goalie Equipment can be used m) Small nets are to be used for all games. 11 OFFICIAL RULES 1) Good Sportsmanship: All teams, major and minor officials and fans will show good sportsmanship throughout the tournament. 2) Rules: The Official Rules of Ringette Canada will apply, except where modified to suit this tournament. 3) Players: All players must be registered with Ringette Alberta or Ringette Canada. All players must be registered as a member or affiliate of the team with the applicable provincial or zone body unless accepted otherwise by the Bow View Ringette Tournament Organizing Committee. Teams who play an ineligible player will have the result(s) of the affected game(s) cancelled. The affected game(s) will be awarded to the team(s) not playing an ineligible player by a 4-0 score unless determined otherwise by the Tournament Organizing Committee. 4) Player Affiliation Rules: Affiliate players must be registered on provincial registrations as per the Ringette Alberta Operating Policies and Procedures (Section C, IV) The maximum number of players listed on a game sheet: When using no affiliates: 18 players When using affiliate(s) as skater(s) only: 12 players When using affiliate skater(s) + affiliate goalie: 13 players When only using an affiliate goalie: 18 players Game sheets will be checked for the proper use of affiliated players. Teams are required to strike the names of players who are not participating in a game from the game sheet to ensure proper verification. When using affiliates, the name(s) of the player(s) and their jersey number(s) must be clearly identified by writing AP or AG, beside their name. * It is the responsibility of each team to ensure Ringette Alberta affiliated player rules are followed. 5) Game Sheets: Teams must declare goaltenders(s), captain and alternate captain(s) on the game sheet by indicating G, C and AC. Teams must also declare affiliate player(s) and affiliate goalie on the game sheet by indicating AP and AG. Game sheets are to be completed and signed by the coaches at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to game time at the registration table. The last team to sign in will take the score sheet to the box. All score sheets must be turned into the Jingle Ring Tournament 2017 Page 11 of 22

12 registration desk at the end of the game. Each team may take one copy for their records. 6) Minor Officials: We require each team to provide minor officials for each round robin game HOME team must provide a trained shot clock operator, timekeeper, and penalty box worker. AWAY team must provide a scorekeeper and penalty box worker. Minor official duties will be covered for the Gold medal games only. Consolation games will require team minor officials. 7) Forfeits: The penalty for not playing a game is forfeiture of points. Two (2) points will be awarded to opposing team for said game, and the posted score will be ) Jersey Colors: In case of conflict in uniform color the AWAY team will change their uniform. 9) Game Time: Teams must be ready to ice their team ten (10) minutes before game time. Teams not ready to play within two (2) minutes of the referee s whistle being blown to start the game will forfeit the game. However, the game will be played as an exhibition game. 10) Delay of Game: Ringette Canada rule 6.5 says "A team that leaves the ice then starts play within one minute of being directed to do so by an on-ice official shall be assessed a Delay of Game penalty. If the team fails to start play within one minute of being advised to do so, the game is forfeited. If a team leaves the ice for a second time during a game, the game is immediately forfeited. 11) Time-Outs: Each team is entitled to ONE (1) 30-second timeout per regulation game. There will be No Time-Outs in Overtime periods. 12) Time Reduction: If only five (5) minutes remain in an assigned time slot, the clock will be reset to two (2) minutes at the first stoppage of play. 13) Game Scores: Games scores will be displayed on the time clock, posted in the arena lobby and recorded on our Bow View website > Tournament > 2017 Jingle Ring > Division. 13 14) Goal Differential: A maximum seven-goal differential will be applied when posting game scores. 15) Playoff Games: In playoff games, the higher placed team shall be HOME. U10 Step 3 Two (2) sixteen (16) minute stop time periods U12/U14 Two (2) sixteen (16) minute stop time periods U16/U19 Two (2) twenty (20) minutes stop time periods 16) Penalties: A Match penalty will automatically result in suspension from all subsequent tournament games. A Misconduct penalty will automatically result in ejection from the current game. If the misconduct occurs with 10 minutes or less remaining in the regulation game the suspension will continue for the next tournament game. Any team accumulating more than thirty (30) minutes in penalties in any one game shall see the head coach or acting coach of that game suspended for the next tournament game. 17) Protests: 18) Point Structure: Protests will be accepted with a certified cheque or cash of $200 and a letter outlining the reason for the protest. The cash and letter must be turned into the registration table within 90 minutes of the game s completion. A Grievance Committee will deal with any protests received. If the protest is upheld, the $200 will be refunded. No protests will be accepted based on a referee s decision. THE REFEREES DECISIONS ARE FINAL! Teams receive two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and zero (0) points for a loss. At the completion of round robin play, teams will be ranked according to the total points in all games played. Jingle Ring Tournament 2017 Page 13 of 22

14 TIE BREAKER RULES 1. BREAKING OF TIE SCORES IN TOURNAMENT GAMES: If a round robin game is tied at the end of regulation time, each team will be awarded one (1) point. If a game is tied at the end of the second half of a playoff game, the teams will immediately play a five (5) minute RUN time SUDDEN VICTORY period (the first team to score will be declared the winner). Ring possession to start will be determined by a coin toss, with the home team captain calling the toss. o Teams do not change ends. o Penalties assessed in regulation time, shall carryover to the overtime period. For Divisions U12 U19 - If after one period of overtime the game is still tied, the game will be decided by a shootout. o Coaches shall submit a prepared list of 5 shooters to the officials. o Teams alternate shots on goal, visiting team first. o Each team must go in order of their list. o After each team has had 3 shooters shoot, the team that is ahead will be declared the winner. o If still tied, the teams will alternate shooters in a sudden victory shootout (i.e. If team A scores and team B does not, team A will win), one shooter at a time following the submitted list. o After all 5 pre-determined players have shot, if still tied the team with the least cumulative penalty minutes throughout the entire tournament will be declared the winner. o If still tied, the winner will be determined by a coin toss, with the home team captain calling the toss. For U10 Step 3 - If after one period of overtime the game is still tied, the team with the least cumulative penalty minutes throughout the entire tournament will be declared the winner. o If still tied, the winner will be determined by a coin toss, with the home team captain calling the toss. 2. BREAKING OF TIES IN TEAM STANDINGS: NOTE: actual game scores will be used to calculate the following: o When two or more teams have an equal number of points after round robin games have been completed, the teams will be ranked according to the following rules. These shall be followed in sequence until the tie is broken (i.e. one team is eliminated from the tie). Jingle Ring Tournament 2017 Page 14 of 22

15 Team Win / Loss a. The winner of more game(s) between each other during the round robin will be declared the highest position. Overall Goals For minus Goals Against b. If still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in games between the tied teams in the round robin will be declared the highest position. Overall Goals For Average (G Avg) c. If still tied, the team having the greatest G Avg will be declared the highest position. d. Goals for Average = (Goals For / (Goals For plus Goals Against)) Overall Penalty Minutes e. If still tied, the team with the least number of penalty minutes throughout the tournament will be declared the highest position Scenarios: Team A and B with GF-GA o Team A (GF is 10 and GA is 5) GF-GA=5 o Team B (GF is 11 and GA is 6) GF-GA=5 o They are still tied Team A and B with G Avg (GF/(GF+GA)) o Team A (10/(10+5)) =.666 (Team A wins tie breaker) o Team B (11/(11+6)) =.647 Jingle Ring Tournament 2017 Page 15 of 22

16 TOURNAMENT FACILITIES Hockey Development Centre (HDC) # th Street Northeast. This is a brand new facility located across the street from the Acclaim Hotel. It is just down a few bays from the TEXCAN bay which is labeled and can be seen from the street. It does not look like a typical arena. Jingle Ring Tournament 2017 Page 16 of 22
