5 MYHA Levels and Terms Playing level determined by birthdate (July 1- June 30). USA Hockey mandated. Can play-up to grade, but not down. Teams formed by school and, beginning at Upper Mites, Evaluations Playing Levels: Termites: generally pre-k to Kindergarten aged players new to skating. Learn to Skate or introduction to hockey. Mite 1 s/1 st Year 6U: generally Kindergarten aged players Mite 2 s/2 nd Year 6U: generally 1 st grade aged players, some 2nd Upper Mites/8U: Intermediate (Mite 3 s/8u): Mostly 2 nd graders, some 3rd Advanced (Mite 4 s/8u): Mostly 3 rd graders, a few 2 nd Travel Program: Squirts/10U, PeeWees/12U, Bantams/14U, etc

6 Termites For both Girls and Boys, ages 4-5 year olds (Born 7/1/ /1/2013) Skating one time per week from mid-november through end of February Combination of both a learn to skate program and an introduction to the game of hockey Full padding/gear will be required Registration is only open to those families currently living within the Minnetonka School District 276 boundaries

7 Mite1, Mite2 and 6U Modeled after USA Hockey s ADM model. Focus on skating fundamentals and puck handling. Key Dates: Skill Development Sessions begin 10/28/17. Team Practices start November 18th Games start at the end of December. Indoor Ice approx 2 times per week on Saturday and Sunday. Outdoor Ice generally one outdoor practice held on a weekday once the weather permits. The outdoor practice schedule is determined by the head coach of each team. Teams formed with intention of having kids play with a small group of kids from their school Games 3 on 3, cross-ice for entire season. Two teams on the ice, each split into two mini teams New game day schedule 15/ minutes skating development, 45 minute game No goalies or Goalies rotate with shifts no goalie equipment All games are within the Minnetonka association/6u plays some other associations End of Season jamborees: MYHA Mite Mania, typically held on first weekend of March.

9 Intermediate Mites/8U Boys (Mite3)& Girls (8U Silver/White) Modeled after USA Hockey s ADM model. Focus on skating fundamentals and puck handling. Key Dates: Skill Development Sessions begin on 10/7/17. Player Evaluations will be held 11/5/17 (boys) and 11/11/17 and 11/12/17 (8U s) Teams formed and team practices begin on 11/18/17. Teams established through player evaluations. Indoor Ice 2 times per week (Saturday & Sunday) w/ additional weekday ice as available (mostly on Mondays). Outdoor Ice one or two on weekdays once the weather permits. The outdoor practice schedule is determined by the head coach of each team. Majority of regular season games are within MYHA with a few games against other associations MYHA Mite Jamboree typically held on second weekend in March

10 Advanced Mites: Boys (Mite4) & Girls (8U Black/Blue) Modeled after USA Hockey s ADM model. Focus on skating fundamentals and puck handling. Key Dates: Skill Development Sessions begin on 10/7/17. Player Evaluations will be held 11/5/17 (boys) 11/11/17 and 11/12/17 (8U s) Teams formed and team practices begin on 11/18/17. Teams established through player evaluations. Indoor Ice 2 times per week (Saturday & Sunday) w/ additional weekday ice as available (mostly on Mondays). Outdoor Ice one or two on weekdays once the weather permits. 12 Puck Handling (1x, if player falls allow one re-try) Start on goal line, carry puck around four cones and back across start/finish line Cross-Overs (1x, if player falls, allow one re-try) Start on goal line, complete figure-eight (no puck) and back across start/finish line Backward Skate (2x, record both times) From stationary position, clock starts on movement, full-speed thru cones. Clock stops when skater crosses Red line. Forward Skate w. puck (2x, record both times)- From stationary position, clock starts on movement, full-speed thru cones. 13 Volunteer Program 8 Hours per Player, registration requirement, excluding Termites Options for Fulfilling Volunteer Hours Coaching Head Coach 8 hours Assistant Coach 6 hours, only 3 asst coaches/team will receive hours Team manager 4 hours Primary Mite Manager duties are listed at the bottom of the link listed below DIBS system - Watch for MYHA blasts for newly posted sessions Buy-Out Option, at the time of registration, $240/player

14 MYHA Fundraising Options Scrip Program Scrip fundraising is a no selling program that enables families to raise money to offset their hockey costs. Families purchase gift cards for stores and restaurants you already visit, pay face value for the gift card through Scrip, and a % of your purchase will be credited back to you at the end of the season. Participation is voluntary and open to MYHA members only. Lotzza Motzza Pizza Fundraiser MYHA families may purchase one or more sheets of three (3) Lotzza Motzza Pizza coupons at a cost of $18/sheet. Lotzza Motzza pizzas start at $10/pizza in the store. Families may then resell the sheet of three (3) pizza coupons for $30 per sheet and keep the difference. For every sheet sold, the player earns $12 40% profit. Youngstedts Gift Cards As a part of our partnership with Youngstedts, each MYHA registered member (excludes Jr. Gold and Termite levels) will receive $125 in Youngstedts MYHA cards as part of your registration. 16 Equipment Required Equipment: Hockey Helmet with full face shield Mouth guard Neck guard Shoulder pads Elbow pads Hockey gloves Protective cup (boys) Pelvic protector (girls) - shorts with pad in front and Velcro that holds up socks Shin pads Breezers (hockey pants) Skates Hockey Stick - a Junior stick, which has a thinner shaft and shorter blade. Recommend a straight stick (one without a left/right curved blade) for players new to hockey. Supplied by MYHA: Hockey socks Minnetonka Jersey Recommended: Bag to carry equipment Skate guards Hockey tape (for taping hockey stick) Ski/face mask to cover nose and ears Liner gloves Stickhandling ball or puck
