Lilian Schick Hockey and Sports Leadership Program Program Aim Lilian Schick Hockey and Sports Leadership Program is designed to promote long term leadership in athletics with a focus on hockey. As a 7 Habits School, Lilian Schick focuses on developing leadership skills in all situations, including athletics. The goal of the Hockey and Sports Leadership Program is to: Develop balanced athletes with an emphasis on overall fitness and health Increase athletic self awareness through the promotion of good sportsmanship in a safe and controlled environment. Develop and improve on and off ice hockey skills. Promote the passion for the game of hockey. The Hockey and Sports Leadership Program encourages student athletes to follow Lilian Schick s School Vision for all students to: Learn with Passion Lead with Confidence

ON-ICE SESSIONS Challenging drills that allow students to develop at their own pace will focus on fundamentals such as: Skating, puck handling, shooting, passing, checking, offensive and defensive tactics and goaltending skills. Guest coaches and instructors will be integrated into the program throughout the year. OFF-ICE SESSIONS Students will be exposed to a variety of activities and valuable athletic training. Guest speakers will be booked throughout the year to educate students on various topics. Fitness programs will include: Agility Strength training Flexibility Cardiovascular fitness Nutrition Mental preparation Other activities may include, but not be limited to: golf, swimming, climbing, cycling, soccer, Oil Kings game Field trips will take place throughout the year at various venues and will focus on hockey and all around fitness. Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking your potential. Liane Carlos

Lilian Schick Sports and Leadership Program: Student Expectations As members of this program you are ambassadors for Lilian Schick School in the community. Best behavior should be modeled at all times, at the school, in transit, at the arena and in the community. At School: Be proactive in your academics, behavior and time management. If students fall behind on course work they can be pulled out of program activities in order to catch up. Students are expected to be at all scheduled program blocks. If illness, injury or appointment prevents this students must let instructors know ahead of time. In Transit: Bus will leave the school on schedule. Be punctual. On the bus: Follow the bus driver s rules and expectations. Unloading of bus: Quickly and efficiently exit the bus with your equipment. Synergize to help each other as situations arise. At the Arena: Students will go from the bus, directly to their assigned dressing rooms. Students should start getting ready immediately so they are ready to go on the ice at their assigned time. Students who are unable to participate due to illness or injury will not come to the arena for on-ice sessions. In the Dressing Room: Proper language must be used at all times. Any name calling, bullying or hazing will absolutely not be tolerated. The room shall be left as it was when upon arrival.

Storage: Equipment can be left in the stage area of the school gym before and after on ice sessions. Alternate storage will be in the chair storage room. Please wash equipment regularly, as this can be a health issue. Anyone not involved in the Sports Leadership Program will not be permitted in the storage area while equipment is being stored there. Use of the storage room will be discussed and demonstrated by the instructors in order to effectively be kept neat and accessible. Apparel: Appropriate physical education attire must be worn for all off-ice sessions. This includes appropriate footwear and clothing. Students must bring their own water bottle. Full gear in accordance to Hockey Canada guidelines and a water bottle are required for all on-ice sessions. Program jerseys must be worn for all on-ice sessions. You don t have to blow out the other person s light to let your own shine Bernard M. Baruch

7 Habits Rubric Habit How well and in what ways did I exemplify this habit? (1 not at all, 10 I was amazing!) Be Proactive Begin With the End in Mind Put First Things First Think Win Win Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood Synergize Sharpen the Saw We first make our habits, then our habits make us. - Stephen Covey

Schedules All hockey programming takes place in the afternoons of days 1 and 4. Typically, students board the bus to leave the school right after lunch eating and arrive at the arena approximately 10 mins after. Students are back at school in time for end of day dismissal. Monthly schedules will be ed by the beginning of each month. They can also be found on the school website. Your life is a result of your own decisions not your conditions. Stephen Covey
