2 Elite Hockey is the culmination of player skills, attitude and desire, coupled with the coaching experience, training and dedication to form a team to play competitively against teams from other associations. The Elite Teams play in a league that permits players to play against players of equal ability. It permits each player to improve his/her skills and character to play at the next higher individual and team skill level. Objectives This document outlines the proposal to the Brooks Minor Hockey Association to be the governing body for the ``Badlands`` Hockey Program. Although Hockey Alberta does not currently recognize the AA level as elite, to distinguish from the competitive tiered levels that are involved within the CAHL, we will refer to the AA program as being part of the Elite Stream. Hockey Alberta has developed a process to enable Alberta s top hockey athletes to compete at the highest level in a fair and equitable manner. Badlands Hockey Program supports that mandate and strives to offer our zone/area athletes a variety of playing opportunities based on the needs of the player and the teams involved. Hockey Alberta: All elite leagues and Local Minor Hockey Associations are to focus on moving players through the system to the next level. BROOKS MINOR HOCKEY CONSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES: To promote, encourage and facilitate the sport of hockey within the City of Brooks and the surrounding area To exercise a general supervision, direction and control over the playing interest of its players, coaches, managers, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, discipline, and SAFETY while developing the proper fundamentals of the sport of hockey. To act as the governing body of amateur hockey in the City of Brooks and surrounding area in accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by Hockey Alberta. It is the objective of the Badlands Hockey Program to provide an atmosphere for elite competition for athletes while fostering an environment of shared respect and to promote the physical, mental, and social development of players.

4 PROGRAM GOALS The objective of the AA program is to give the opportunity for grassroots hockey players to compete at an elevated level of hockey and thus giving the potential for progression into AAA hockey (or beyond). 5 PLAYER AND TEAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Badlands Hockey Program The entire program is based on a building block system with each level feeding into the next. We will accomplish this by identifying the key areas of focus for each age group to develop strong, intelligent, and committed hockey players. Coach Selection Coach selection is one of the most important aspects that affect a hockey team. It is our objective to select coaches that will have the greatest benefit to the players in the program, and meet the coaching requirements and the mandate of the Badlands Hockey Program in an unbiased manner. In an effort to provide a quality hockey program, Badlands will select coaches it feels best meet the objectives of the program offered, governing bodies, and the game itself. Coaches will be selected on the basis of four categories. These categories, in no particular order include: 1. Certification 2. Experience 3. Historical Performance 4. How they relate to (communicate with) players On-Ice Hockey Program Two 1.5 hour practices each week 30+ games per season (or league requirements) High-calibre on-ice coaching staff Bi-weekly power skating instruction Detailed break-down of all facets of the game, both individually and team oriented Video analysis Off-Ice Conditioning Program Professional off-ice dryland training Aerobic and anaerobic workouts Strength and conditioning program Pre and post game stretching strategies Nutrition and supplement guidance Athletes receive dryland training instruction by a certified instructor once per week with a focus on speed, agility, strength, and conditioning. Our off-ice conditioning workouts are hockey specific, as is the equipment used. Bosu balls, stability balls, balance boards, medicine balls, stationary bikes, agility ladders and much more will be utilized.

It is expected that our players will give back to the community and outlying areas that they are playing for. Example Midget AA players being on-ice help at Duchess initiation/pre-novice tournament. Zone Involvement Elite teams in this zone cannot be successful without Zone involvement. These teams are not the property of one Local Minor Hockey Association but are the result of many associations working together to allow their elite players the opportunity to play at a high level of hockey. Each association has helped developed these players to the level they are at and should be commended for doing a good job at that. To give back to associations that are feeding into this system, it is proposed that some league games be played in their home towns. This will give the opportunity for the LMHA to bear witness to the success of their programs and for the town to feel the pride that they deserve. Every player on the team must pursue their personal goals within the team environment and no one individual is more important than the team. The Badlands Hockey Program will provide an environment in which each player is treated as an individual within a team atmosphere. Young hockey players will receive high quality development through encouragement and direction from our coaches, trainers, and management staff, producing positive personal growth of our athletes. Exposure to leagues, teams and players in Junior A, Major Junior, College and Pro. A program that will develop a player's character as much as their hockey skills. The opportunity to progress ahead of players outside of our hockey program.
