2 CHALLENGE CUP 2018 INTERNATIONAL AAA TOURNAMENT Dear Team Manager: The Challenge Cup selection committee is pleased to invite your team to join us in the celebration of the Challenge Cup's 26th Annual AAA Hockey Tournament. Once again, the tournament will be held at the and at the University of British Columbia arenas from May 18 th through May 20 th, The prestigious Challenge Cup continues to attract top teams of AAA and AA caliber from Canada and the United States. This year, the tournament will feature teams for the age groups and three female divisions; Midget, Bantam and Peewee. Body checking will be permitted for PeeWee Major to Midget AAA Divisions. Body checking will not be permitted in the female divisions. The tournament will be a round robin format with each team guaranteed 4 games. Each game will be 3-20 minute periods with one ice clean per game. There will be gold, silver and bronze medal rounds. The Entry Fees and Refund Policy are itemized below. Full registration fee is including GST. VERY IMPORTANT: The Challenge Cup will start on Friday, May 18 th at 8:00 AM with the Championship games played on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the late afternoon for the younger age groups and early evenings for the older age groups. There will be NO games on Monday, May 21, The Challenge Cup has several SPONSORING HOTELS with competitive rates in close range of all participating arenas. 3 GENERAL INFORMATION & IMPORTANT DATES This information package contains details pertaining to the upcoming 26 th held in Vancouver, British Columbia from May 19-22, Annual Challenge Cup Register for Challenge Cup: TODAY! Early Bird Deadline: December 31, 2017 Roster submitted: Schedule Release Goal: Pre-event Online Meeting: May 1, 2018 (Deadline for Program) May 1, 2018 (This may vary slightly) Tuesday, May 8, 2018 for 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, and all female divisions. A representative from each team must be present. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 for 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 & Boy s Midget divisions. A representative from each team must be present. Tournament Starts: Teams are expected to start by 8:00 AM on Friday, May 18th Event Date: May 18-20, 2018 Number of Games: Prizing: Additional Events: Guaranteed four games. Five to six for teams advancing to the playoffs Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Rounds Five Puck Shootout on Friday s evening games Skills Competition for Novice to Peewee. 4 GAME FORMAT The Challenge Cup s game format is as follows: Warm-Up 5 minutes 1 st Period 20 minutes running time 2 nd Period 20 minutes stop time Ice Clean after 2 nd period 3 rd Period 20 minutes stop time OT 5 minutes 3 VS 3 players followed by 3 player shoot out. See tourney rules for details. Ice Clean at the end of the game. This format allows for longer games and a fresh sheet of ice for the start of your game and at the very important beginning of the 3 rd period.

6 FIVE PUCK GAME The 26 th Annual Challenge Cup is pleased to announce the Five Puck Game! This year the game will be only played following Friday s round robin games for the Novice, Atom and Peewee levels. Here s how it works. 1) Five pucks are placed on both sides of center ice. 2) Team A will shoot against Team B s goalie and vice versa. 3) Five minutes is registered on the game clock. The game starts on the whistle with one player from each side having a breakaway against the opposing goalie. If this player scores, the next player in line would proceed with his breakaway. If no goal were scored, the player would then retrieve the puck he missed with and pass it to the next player in line who is waiting beside the row of five pucks. The next player cannot leave until the previous player has cleared the zone. The goaltender is not allowed to move the puck to a disadvantaged position. Rebound goals are not permitted. ALL players must go before a repeat attempt is made by any player. NOTE: In the event that a game goes into overtime, the winner of the game will be counted as the Five Puck winner with 5 goals in 5 minutes while the loser of the game will receive credit for 4 goals in 5 minutes. Prizes for the winners of the Five Puck Game to be announced closer to the event! COACH S CELEBRITY GAME The Coach s game will be held on Thursday evening, followed by a Coach s Social. Play with and against some former NHL greats! Details for location and registration procedures to follow!

7 SKILLS COMPETITION The following are procedures for the Challenge Cup Skills Competition. Events: Fastest Skater Player skates two laps: one forward and one backward. Pivot is made between center ice and blue line after finishing one lap. Best-recorded time wins. Hardest Shot Speed of the player's shot (player takes two shots) on net is recorded with radar gun. Shot must hit net to count. Fastest shot recorded wins! Best Puck handler Player skates through an indicated route with a puck. Player must finish the course with the puck. Fastest recorded time wins! Showdown A player takes three breakaways in less than 30 seconds. Distances will vary with each age group. Saves and goals are recorded. Goalie with most saves wins! Shooter with most goals and fastest times wins. Rules One player from each team can participate in one event only-no DOUBLE ENTRY. Players must wear full equipment.
