1 New Oxford Field Hockey Team Expectations You are a STUDENT athlete, be on time, prepared, attentive, and work hard in every class each and every day. You must meet all PIAA and CVSD academic eligibility requirements in order to participate. Be at practice every day on time, with all equipment. (Colored mouth guard, shin guards, proper shoes, goggles, stick and no jewelry) Always be prepared for indoor and outdoor practice! UNEXCUSED ABSENCES : driver s test, fair/concert, friend/boyfriend issues, club team, work, shopping, injury, multiple doctors appointments. Unexcused absences will impact playing time. EXAMPLES OF EXCUSED: tutoring, college visits, funeral(if you are late due to NOHS meetings, you will owe time after practice). Always put the team first! Field hockey is a TEAM sport, we can not win games if anyone is looking out for themselves first. Every team member should exhibit the qualities of sportsmanship, and appropriate behavior. Concentrate on the task at hand whether it is training, practicing or competition. Be respectful to your teammates, your school, the coaching staff, officials and yourself. Work together, push each other to be better and play to win! Be coachable. Trust the experience of your coaches, do your job. Games are won and lost on the practice field. Practice every day like you play, full speed & with intensity! We win and lose as a team, we do not make or accept excuses. Make good decisions and do the right thing! JUNIORS/JUNIOR PARENTS WILL PLAN and PREPARE for SENIOR NIGHT Coach Lardarello s Goals: 1. Have productive and meaningful practices that help athletes grow in knowledge and ability in the game of field hockey. 2. Put the best 11 players on the field. Sometimes attitude and heart is more valuable than talent. 3. Why not us, Why not now Develop and instill a winning attitude throughout all players/coaches to develop an intense desire to win, pushing each other to be better and to work harder. Win league, move on to post season and be successful!! WE RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! 4. Provide opportunities in the summer to prepare for season 5. Encourage athletes to get involved in field hockey and use leadership skills acquired after high school: playing at college, becoming a referee, coaching, utilizing their skills such as hard work, determination and leadership skills developed while competing to maximize their potential for continued academic, athletic and/or personal success.
2 PLAYER GUIDELINES: 1. As a participant of the field hockey program, you are expected to follow all school guidelines regarding academic eligibility and conduct. You are also expected to abide by all rules of play and use of safety equipment as determined by the PIAA. 2. All players are expected to attend every practice and every game. If one cannot attend a practice or a game, the player must contact the coach prior to her absence. Please provide a parental note. If a player is absent from school, prior notice is not necessary. Unexcused absences will affect playing time. An absence due to unexpected or unique circumstance will be considered by the coach. 3. Every player is expected to travel on the team bus to and from all away contests. If a family or school function necessitates a player traveling from an away site with an adult, proper school procedures must be followed. It is the responsibility of the TEAM to pick up ALL trash on the bus. 4. All players must be ON TIME for practice and games. That means on the field ready to start, with ALL NECESSARY EQUIPMENT. In the case of an away game, all players must be dressed and ready when the bus arrives. Players also must see teachers prior to the early dismissal to get assignments or class work that would be missed due to the dismissal. 5. All players are expected to report all injuries to the trainer and when necessary, see her before practices or games for treatment 6. Every player in the field hockey program is responsible for the equipment and uniform issued to her. The cost of any items missing at the conclusion of the season is the responsibility of the player. 7. Cell phones will be turned off and/or put away at all times during practices, games. The only exception is with the coach s permission. 8. GAME DAY All players will sit in the bench area and watch and support both the JV and varsity games. All players are responsible for taking care of their own belongings and trash. Bench areas, both home and away, will be left neat and clean. 9. All players will be picked up promptly after games and practices. Please be responsible. 10. Be respectful to all players and coaches, negative talk and attitude will not be tolerated. Communicate concerns, thoughts feelings with coaches, don t let minor issues become major problems. As a HS player, the expectation is that you are able to communicate concerns to the coach. If concerns still exist, make an appointment with parent/athlete and coach. If need be, the AD. 11. Above all, you are NOHS Student Athlete and your actions in school, on the bus, and on and off the field reflect on the team. Represent yourself, New Oxford High School, the athletic program, and the Field Hockey Program proudly and honorably. MAKE US ALL PROUD TO BE YOUR TEAMMATE!
3 Parent Expectations 1.Be positive with your student athlete. Help the coaching staff build a full commitment to the team by encouraging your student athlete to adhere to all team rules and policies, including demonstrating a positive attitude and attending all practices and games. 2. Please be respectful of everyone s time and be prepared to pick your student athlete up on time after all practices and games. We will end practices promptly as scheduled and will send REMIND texts as to when we are arriving back from away games. 3. Be a positive role model by respecting coaches, officials and opponents, along with cheering for all team members. Remember, as parents we make mistakes, as coaches we make mistakes and as players we make mistakes. 3. Encourage your student athlete to be a team player. Stress the importance of team success over individual accomplishments. 4. Winning is great, but building positive team values is more important and will have a greater life long impact. The concept of working together to accomplish a common goal will have a lasting impact. Promote the notion that winning will take place only when all team members work together. 5. Always be supportive of your student athlete. Encourage her to always do the very best she can. Be positive, if your words at home contradict what is being said at practice, her performance will be negatively affected. Be her biggest FAN, not her COACH. This time to enjoy watching your daughter compete at the high school level will go fast!! Keep things in perspective and ENJOY IT! SENIOR PARENTS: Please facilitate communication between coaches and other parents. Bridge communication with JV parents. If you have questions and/or concerns, please take time to think about them carefully. If your questions/concerns have to do with playing time, another player on the field or game strategy, please keep them to yourself, these could potentially bring your student athlete and the team down. Our goal is to make high school field hockey a positive, educational, and memorable experience for your child. We will work hard to get to know your daughter and make her better both on and off the field. If there are other concerns, talk to your child to see if they can clarify, if not please contact me to schedule a meeting either via phone or face to face. All meetings will be informational, and remain professional. Keep in mind that I make decisions based on what I feel is best for the team. A decision that seems clear cut to you, is not always so clear with various variables such at practice habits, ability, attitude and team chemistry.
4 IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER While summer practices are not mandatory, they are HIGHLY recommended. We are only as strong as our weakest link, don t let that be YOU!!
