April will be significantly less than this. The profits for the month before taxes from our gambling operations were $115,776. Gambling taxes paid during the current month were $59,612. After taxes, we had a net profit from gambling of $59,612. Please keep in mind the current month taxes paid were for the previous period and not on the current month s operations. The taxes for the month of March are approximately $77,000.

4 D5 Report: Secretary Report: *No report MN Hockey District 5 Board meeting notes (4/4/18): Treasurer s report: SCYHA make sure that all money owed is paid in full asap Tournament Coordinator: No report Coach in Chief report: -no report- not present Officials report: -growing concern of parents and player incidents Girls coordinator: -no report District director report: 1.) Region and state hosts great job on hosting 2.) MN Hockey Update: rule changes for season a. Mandatory school waivers no longer need Director signature b. Squirt/U10 new game limit i. 30 games total, not including district playoffs ii. Even playing time for ALL at all levels (A, B, C) 3.) Association leadership excellence conference a. April 27 th and 28 th Marriott West St Louis Park 4.) Changes for next season a. Behavior issues are growing. On and off ice. i. Not finalized, but thrown out there by Tim and Steve that after the 2 fair play point lost, coach has to come to D5 meeting and explain situation b. There is board restructuring that is going to be happening at D5 level with the current Board i. Looking for succession plan and there will be board changes. Association Update: *is there anything I need to bring to next D5 meeting from SCYHA board? New business: 1. no restructuring of playoff brackets for next season 2. fair play point discussion addressed again 3. open floor: the Western Suburban Referee Association board came and discussed that they were told that they weren t allowed to ref D5 functions as of 4/3/18. They were suspended by Mike Mooney (official coordinator of D5). This will be further discussion in August as to who we bring on to contract for D5 games (same refs but potentially different refeeing association, or no association; at least that is what I got out of it).

6 34 returning squirts 36 1st year squirts 2 expected goalies at this point. We do estimate approx. 5 have quit and/or will move away. So project 4 teams again next year at Squirt Level. Peewees: Peewee AA Good: 1. Paul Bunyan PeeWee International tournament is a must. St Cloud has been in it most years and it is a really fun time. 2. Played in the right amount of games and tournaments. Challenges: 1. We played at the AA level. I think we struggled here but still had a fun year. The tournaments we played in were mostly A tournaments and we did okay in them. However even at the A level it was not a cake walk. I would probably see if we could play A vs AA if it is a choice or at least try and get in A tournaments or scrimmage some A teams more at our competitive level. If registering for A tournaments make sure host association knows you re a AA team. Some were not real happy going into the tournament. Peewee B1 Red We had a fun and successful year. We participated in 3 B1 tournaments and won the championship in 2 of them, Grand Rapids and Anoka. We finished 2nd in District 5 regular season and league playoffs. We lost 2 close games in regions. The players and parents were great and all the players improved in both skills and knowledge of the game. Peewee B Black The season went by very quickly, which is always a sign of things going smoothly, and the kids having fun! It was a great group of parents, hockey players, and families. The coaches helped the kids skill development, as their progress clearly grew month by month. Head Coach Stuart (Stu) Swenson, along with assistant coaches Mark Dahle, and Chris Ylinen led the PW Black team to a overall record, and a second place D5 finish. I would not recommend the Hibbing tourney unless they redo the format for next year (ie if pool play, play teams from your own pool so don t have the situation that happened to our team, where you win all of your games but go home with nothing). The Black team enjoyed lots of well-planned time both on the ice, and off the ice with weekly dryland. The team also enjoyed several team functions throughout the season including a SCSU men's hockey game, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, a player & family luncheon at SCSU, as well as 3 enjoyable tournaments in Champlin Park, Hibbing, and Elk River. The hockey players, and their families all enjoyed a fun, memorable, and successful year of youth hockey. Peewee B Silver We had an incredible group of kids with very little drama, very well behaved an overall positive attitudes. One of the challenges of coaching a B level team is the talent Gap. Our team had half of the kids just don't think the game very well, and the other half do. So even though it isn't about winning, it is hard to keep kids engaged if they are losing every game. When the talent Gap is this wide it is just very challenging to coach and to teach. I had the exact same thing happen when I coached a squirt B team as well. In hindsight

7 I think half of the kids on my team would have been better off as a B-2 player. I cannot speak for the other team, however just knowing all of those kids and playing against them I guess he is a fair number of those kids probably should have been on the B2 level as well. I too found it difficult when setting up scrimmages trying to figure out whether to play a B1 or B2 team. No one designates as a B. So unless we were playing Stillwater or some bigger association where we had to play B2 it was a mixed bag. In our district tournament and division with STMA stacking teams made it tough to compete with their depth. Tournaments: Level of competition was good at all three tournaments. Mounds view sportacular- good tournament competition but having to pay to get in daily on top of was lame. Little Falls- Mostly local teams we already played in district play- close was nice no hotel. Played in championship vs Buffalo- cost was good for budget Fergus Falls-. Our farther away tourney- Parents/Families didn t seem too wild about Fergus Falls tourney just because of the distance and not much to do there - competition wasn't best- we were 2 best teams matched up in first game so was a bummer. Won consolation championship easily after first round.- cost was good for budget Otherwise it was a great season and the kids had a blast. Peewee B2 Gray We had a fun year. Parents stepped up and helped out where it was needed and we had a great team manager that knew the ropes and took a lot off my plate in terms of scrimmages and tournaments and ice scheduling. We were about.500, which is a good place to be in my opinion. We were generally competitive in all of our games. Tournaments for B2 teams continues to be a struggle to find a tourney that is truly a B2 tourney. We didn t get blown out in our games this year, but that was partly for luck of the draw (not having to play a couple super good teams that were in other pools that absolutely destroyed some teams, including STMA Gold, whom won our regular season division!). Overall good season. I think the kids had fun and they got better throughout the year. Peewee B2 White Tournaments- Hopkins was an unorganized mess. There was no one from the tournament that reached out to get what they needed from teams (rosters, team colors, etc.). 10 days prior to the tournament I ed them to find out what they needed from me. I submitted everything they needed that day. The next day I rec d an from them saying they needed our roster. I replied that I had sent it the day before but here it is again. Asked that they confirm receipt, which they did. Arrive at tournament. No locker room assignments. Ok a little odd but not the end of the world. I go to check in team. I was told in the they didn t need roster labels because they use the computer generated score sheet. At check in they needed labels. Ok, good thing I had some on me. They had mom pins for each team but they forgot to order them for our team. I was told they d mail them to me. Gave her my address, never got them. The program had the wrong STC PW B2 team listed. They listed the gray team. I questioned this as I had told the lady doing check in that I had sent our roster twice. She asked me when I sent it. I pulled up my and gave her the dates. She explained the programs had been printed well before the date that I submitted

8 them (yet no one reached out to me to get the roster) so they just pulled a roster from our website and oops, I guess they pulled the wrong one. Besides all of that this tournament did not feel like a B2 tournament. It was more like a B/B1. We had no chance against the other teams. New Ulm tournament-quite the opposite from Hopkins. This was an amazing tournament. They were well organized!! No surprises. Also, the hotel that the association reserved (Best Western Plus) was absolutely AMAZING. I can t say enough how enjoyable this tournament was as well the hotel. I would highly recommend this tournament and the hotel. Bantams:. Girls: U10B s from Coach Rob Ruprecht: We took a team that won 2 games the previous year to 18 wins, 5 th place finish in season district standings and 3 rd place in the district tournament winning two of the four tournament games in overtime. U12 s: Successful season of U12 girls hockey. We had a strong team all season long. Had a strong winning record (32-7-1). Girls had a lot of fun and gained a lot of hockey knowledge and skills along the way. Our season was cut shorter than expected after getting beat for Litch and Hutch in the District playoffs. As far as next season, we really want/need to know the girls numbers at all levels to develop a game plan as to what is going to happen for 10 s, 12 s, and 15 s. I know from our U12 team this year all but one girl will be returning to U12 s (or at least U12 eligible) which will be 10 skaters and 1 goalie.
