Sanner converted a penalty kick for the game s only goal in a 1-0 win at Drexel on Wednesday night. He followed that up by breaking a scoreless tie midway through the second half to propel Princeton to a 2-0 win over visiting Binghamton on Saturday. Sanner enters League play this weekend having scored a goal in four of his last five matches. Cornell has a four-match winning streak as it plays host to Penn on Saturday afternoon. Cornell is at home this season. Harvard will have a five-match winning streak when it hosts Yale on Saturday night. The Crimson are in Cambridge this year. Defense could dominate when Columbia and Brown play in Providence on Saturday night. The Bears have played three straight scoreless ties. Dartmouth, which is unbeaten in its last four matches (3-0-1), visits Princeton on Saturday, which is unbeaten in its last three (2-0-1). ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Columbia defender Arthur Bosua (Dix Hills, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal and helped maintain a clean sheet in the Lions 2-0 win over Fordham last Wednesday. Bosua knocked home a header off a corner kick from Andrew Tinari for an insurancer marker in the win over the Rams. 3 Week Ivy League Men s Soccer 3 STREAKIN ACROSS THE PITCH As League play begins this weekend, several teams are on hot streaks. Cornell has won four in a row, all by shutout, heading into this weekend s match-up with defending champ Penn. Harvard has won five in a row, scoring three or more goals in each of those wins, heading into the weekend clash with rival Yale. Dartmouth is unbeaten in its last four and Princeton is unbeaten in its last three. The Big Green will face Vermont on Tuesday, trying to extend that streak to five before facing the Tigers on Saturday. Brown has three straight shutouts heading into a match-up with Columbia. DEFENDING THE IVY CROWN When League play opens the weekend, Penn will officially begin defense of the Ivy title. In what is now 58 attempts to date, the Ivy League title has been successfully defended 24 times (meaning at least one of the previous season s champions won the League title the following season). The last team to successfully defend the Ivy title was Dartmouth, which won the 2004 title and then won a share of the 2005 crown (with Brown and Yale). The longest run of turnover in Ivy men s soccer championships came from Columbia s run of eight straight titles (shared or outright) came to an end in 1986 when Yale claimed the crown. It wasn t until 1995 when Brown grabbed a share of the title in 1994 (with Harvard) and 1995 (with Cornell) that a repeat champion was crowned. The last time consecutive Ivy championships were won in outright fashion was 1997 and 1998 when Brown claimed consecutive titles. The most dominant stretch of title defenses was put together by Columbia when it won eight consecutive League titles from (including sharing the 1980 title with Penn). PERFECT IVY SEASONS Last season marked the third consecutive campaign that the Ivy champion didn t escape the Ancient Eight slate unscathed. The last team to post a perfect league season: Princeton posted a record en route to claiming the 2010 Ivy title. It was the 12th time the League champion finished with a perfect mark. Eleven other times an Ivy champion finished without a loss but had at least one tie, which is still possible this season. Yale was the first team to post an unbeaten mark in League play as the Bulldogs went to claim the 1956 title. Last season was the seventh time in the last nine that every Ivy squad had at least one loss in League play. EVERY ANCIENT EIGHT GAME COUNTS With a seven-game League schedule and no conference tournament, it is no secret that every game on the Ivy schedule has big ramifications in the chase for the League title and subsequent automatic NCAA bid.
