NON-DIVISION MONSTERS NOTES ADDITIONS AND SUBTRACTIONS: The Monsters saw veteran D Andre Benoit depart on Monday as the NHL s Columbus Blue Jackets loaned the Quebec native to the AHL s Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the balance of the season. Cleveland also recalled G Ivan Kulbakov and D Scott Savage from the ECHL ranks on Monday, and signed C Michael Kirkpatrick to a 25- game PTO contract on Wednesday before releasing Kirkpatrick on Friday and welcoming LW Sonny Milano the same day, on assignment from Columbus. D Ryan Murray was assigned on a conditioning loan by Columbus as well on Saturday. BALLISTIC BROADHURSTS: Monsters forwards Terry and Alex Broadhurst are on an absolute tear as of late. Terry s four-game goal streak (5G) currently ranks tied for the AHL s longest such active streak, his four-game road goal streak (7G) is the AHL s longest such active streak, Terry s five-game point streak (4-1-5) is active, and in his past 21 games, Terry has to his credit. Terry s younger brother Alex is simultaneously riding a five-game point streak of his own (4-3-7), and is scoring at a point per game pace in his last 11 appearances (7-4-11). DON T CALL IT A COMEBACK: So far this year, the Monsters are when trailing through 40 minutes of play. GERBE THE GREAT: Monsters forward Nathan Gerbe is currently in the midst of a four-game assists streak (6A), tied for the AHL s third-longest such active streak. Gerbe is coring at a better than point per game pace vs. the Wolves this year (1 GP, 0-2-2) and has eight points to his credit (0-8- 8) in his past eight games played. BIO: A three-time Stanley Cup Champion and winner of the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL s top defensive forward, John Madden, 44, was named head coach of the Cleveland Monsters by the Columbus Blue Jackets on August 29, 2016 following the departure of Monsters head coach Jared Bednar, who was hired in mid-august as head coach of the NHL s Colorado Avalanche. Madden registered 165 goals, 340 points, 219 penalty minutes and a +20 rating in 898 career NHL appearances for the New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers spanning 13 seasons from 1998 to Madden helped the Devils claim the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003 before again hoisting hockey s Holy Grail in 2010 with Chicago. A Toronto, Ontario native, Madden spent parts of three seasons as an assistant coach with Florida from and in , enters his second season as Monsters head coach. Tynan, a 2016 Calder Cup Champion with the Monsters, currently ranks tied for 11th in the AHL with 41 points to his credit this year. Tynan s five shorthanded points also rank tied for 2nd-most in the AHL and Tynan is scoring at a better than point per game pace vs. Cleveland this season (5 GP, 2-4-6). MAN-DOWN MEGAN: Chicago C Wade Megan s three shorthanded assists rank tied for the AHL lead this season. TERRIFIC TOMAS: Chicago RW Tomas Hyka, 2018 AHL All-Star, has been particularly great head-to-head vs. the Monsters this season. In three games played vs. Cleveland this year, Hyka has six points (3G, 3A) to his credit. ON THEIR BEST BEHAVIOR: So far this season, the Wolves are the AHL s second-most disciplined team, earning just 10.9 penalty minutes per game this season, the second-fewest per game leaguewide. MONSTERS COACHING STAFF Steve McCarthy, Assistant Coach A former first-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks (23rd overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Trail, British Columbia native Steve McCarthy enters his second season in professional coaching with the Monsters in A member of the Monsters 2016 Calder Cup Championship team, McCarthy logged 302 career NHL appearances as a defenseman for the Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Thrashers during a professional playing career that spanned 16 seasons from and also featured stops in the AHL, KHL and ECHL, along with stints in the top Finnish and Swiss leagues. Chris Clark, Development Coach Originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the third round (77th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, South Windsor, CT native Chris Clark is entering his sixth season as Columbus Blue Jackets Development Coach. A veteran of 607 NHL games spanning parts of 11 seasons from with the Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and Columbus, Clark served as Washington s captain four times, helped Calgary earn a berth in the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals, won the AHL s Calder Cup with the Saint John Flames in 2001 and competed collegiately at Clarkson University from Gregory Campbell, Development Coach A third-round selection (67th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Gregory Campbell, 33, is entering his first full season as Blue Jackets Development Coach. In 12 NHL seasons with Florida, the Boston Bruins, and Columbus, Campbell helped Boston claim the 2011 Stanley Cup and during his major junior career, aided the OHL s Kitchener Rangers in claiming the 2003 Memorial Cup.
