CORRESPONDANCE: None OLD BUSINESS: a) epact: All epact MHA invoices have gone out for the season. Please use the program and encourage your team safety people to utilize it. Once they do they will see it works very well b) Zone Teams: (Kelly Grooms) Kelly was not in attendance to speak to her item Female Midget South and North zone teams will be the only teams moving forward from tryouts. During and after tryouts players and parents dropped out resulting in non-viable teams to proceed forward with in Bantam. Peewee was cancelled prior to tryouts due to low registration numbers

2 REPORTS: a) VIAHA President Jim Humphrey: Some of us are losing sight of the fact that we are all volunteers. We need to work together and look at the bigger picture. Recently a lot of time and energy was spent on a handful of players who played spring hockey together. They decided all to leave their regular MHA to follow the other Coach. Parents changing and adding guardianship just to make things work in their favour. Very discouraging for the District - especially the leaving MHA. VIAHA did not approve their transfers and they were turned over to BC Hockey Presidents need to know VIAHA rules so they can keep their associations in line and on the right path. VIAHA rules are put place by the membership we need everyone to support these rules. Should I or anyone act contrary to those rules we need to go back and do it right. b) Executive Director/Financial Report - Charlotte Johnson: NHL Profiles/Wall Plaques: Finally completed after 5 years of trying to find the time. We hired the help of a local student Ben Fredriksson to do the research and put together the write ups. The wall looks amazing now it s done. We have 49 player and 3 Ref plaques completed so far which is amazing for our District. We will keep adding to the wall as more make it. Please let me know if we have missed anyone. To qualify they must have played Minor Hockey in our District and have either been Drafted in the NHL or have played in it. We will add Female Professionals who have played for team Canada to the wall once we have the info. If you ordered game sheets and code of conducts please look for your order under the food table and remember to take it with you. North Island MHA Handbooks are ready to take too District Contact List: I will be sending out a last call for info and then release the final draft from there. Dual Roster requests are still being added to and looked at. Age exemptions are up-to date and you should have answers The Financial Report to Sept 1 st, 2017 was presented MOTION: M/S (Chad Rintoul/Dee Vivian) to accept the Financial Report up to Sept 1st, 2017 as presented. c) Director of Hockey Operations David Beatty: Scheduling of Island League and Atom Development placement games has started. Had to re-set due to a change in the number of teams Some preparation work has been done on the recreation leagues Final team declarations to be done today Island league placement starts Sept 23/24. Atom Development placements start Sept 30/Oct1 and the recreation season begins Oct 14/15 Tournament Requests are coming in and Inter-District Travel requests are picking up also Coach Mangers meeting is actually Sept 17 th Not the 18 th as in the new Handbook that is a typo. If a Coach or Manager cannot make the meeting is must be approved by the VP first Committee asked if VIAHA could look at a webinar option Carryovers to MHA Presidents d) Vice Presidents Reports: VP North Win Hunter: The five North Island MHA s are all in startup with their teams declared today. No concerns sent to me yet Thank you to Campbell River MHA for helping with the Gold River players and making sure they have a place to play Win introduced Chris Canuel as the new BC Hockey North Island Officiating Coordinator and Brian Sugiyama as the new BC Hockey North Island Coach Coordinator

3 VP South Al Walker: Game numbers are already being asked for in Recreation Bill Morrison Saanich President to find us an Atom South Island Commissioner please as soon as possible VP Island League (Competitive) Steve Moir: The Island League Coach/Managers Meeting is on Sunday Sept 17 th. It is mandatory for all Coaches and Managers to be there. Remember they need seek permission not to attend. If only one person attends, they have to take the info back to the other Coaches. VP Mid- Island Dan Payne: The Atom Development Coach/Managers Meeting is on Sunday Sept 17 th. It is mandatory for all Coaches and Managers to be there. Remember they need seek permission not to attend. If only one person attends they have to take the info back to the other Coaches. It s so helpful for having a successful season People are calling ahead and asking for help and info this season. This is really great to see Mid Island Recreation Coach Managers meeting s are scheduled for Tuesday Sept 13 th & Thursday Sept 15 th after Thanksgiving. Same rule applies if they cannot attend Otherwise nothing else to add at this time e) Female Hockey Coordinator Kristen Arnold: (Absent with a written report) My apologies for missing the meeting. The last twenty four hours have been very strange Regional Teams: Laurie and Drew are working on the schedule for the interlocking schedule with PCMHA. Our teams are thrilled to be playing them again Recreational: As declarations come in we will attempt to get the divisions up and running. It looks like we will not have an Atom division Please have your Female Coordinators send info and work with Kristen f) BC Hockey District Coaching Coordinators Reports: (South) Steve Pearce (Excused) Steve is newly appointed and we hope to meet him soon. Please watch the BCH website for up-coming clinics (North) Brian Sugiyama: BC Hockey NCCP/ NCMP/ IP Leads was held August in Richmond. Representatives from Hockey Canada were also in attendance. NCCP Coaching requirements have been adjusted this season. All new Coaches of teams below Atom must attend Coach 1; Coaches of non-carded teams Atom and above must complete Coach 2. For Vancouver Island Clinics Steve Pearce and I need to know names and contact information of the person coordinating Coaching Clinics for your MHA. The current plan would be to have 3 Development 1 clinics on Vancouver Island (1 on South Island, 1 on the North Island, likely Campbell River and one in the Mid Island, likely Nanaimo). We really need to know how many coaches in your MHA need each Coaching Clinic. This season we will be providing a number of specific Skills clinics to fulfil NCCP Professional Development Credits Hockey is working toward Coaches fulfilling these by 2020 so don t panic. The thinking behind the need for this is that clinics aren t really applicable for life and it s good to have ways to stay fresh Brian handed out attachments on NCCP info Coaches in Oceanside, Comox and some within MHA s in the South didn t get their on-ice evaluations and they fear they will have to take the whole clinic again if left too long. Brian said he would look into it people have spent their money and time he will see what he can do. It would be great to get the names of all the MHA Coach Coordinators so he can contact and keep them up-dated

4 g) Officiating Committee Members: Officiating Committee Member (South) Yves Ouellet: Excused Officiating Committee Member (North) Chris Canuel: Looking at Sept 15 th in Port Alberni, Sept 16 th in Nanaimo and Sept 21 st in Oceanside Please check the BC Hockey website for up-to date info though. Will do a clinic in the mid-island as well Gold River trying to find out if they have enough for a clinic. If not perhaps they could join Campbell River s clinic? h) Cross Ice Leads: Cross Ice Lead (South) Lee Richardson: Absent No Report Received Cross Ice Lead (North) Brain Sugiyama: BC Hockey NCCP/ NCMP/ IP Leads was held August in Richmond. Representatives from Hockey Canada were also in attendance. The Cross Ice / Half Ice Initiative will continue for all players in Initiation Minor & Major (H1-H2) and Novice Minor and Major (H3-H4) more specifics relating to ice size and transition of players from Novice to Atom. Please check the BC Hockey website under the Programs- Initiation tab for details. I can attend local community meetings and do presentations about Cross Ice for Parents and / or Coaches VIAHA asked if Brian could help them adjust their Guidelines to match any new BC Hockey changes. He agreed to come in the next day (Monday). The revised addition will be sent out one last time. After this the most current guidelines can be found on the VIAHA website BC Hockey has asked that cross ice players stay within their age group as much as possible. If you have to blend a team please notify your VP so they are aware of kids moving up and down a year within the same division NEW BUSINESS: a) Final Team Declarations: The Executive went through the MHA s team declarations to ensure correct numbers were listed. Now VIAHA can use this info to continue on with scheduling for the season b) BC Hockey AGM Accommodations Booked: Rooms are booked and reserved again at the Nancy Green Lodge. Info will be sent out later with booking code number to use c) Female Regional Teams: Our two Female Regional Midget A Teams will be scheduled to play interlocking exhibition games with Pacific Coast Female Midget A Teams. They will also attend tourneys and other exhibition games possible d) Handbooks: Printed and now available on the website Coach Mangers meeting is actually Sept 17 th Not the 18 th as in the new Handbook that is a typo e) Extended Dental Coverage: This cannot be obtained by individual MHA s it has to be voted on by the District as a whole Executive decided to pass on the option as it was costly per person and minor hockey players have masks so Dental issues are rare occurrences Perhaps when something arises the Districts can look at them on a case by case issue OTHER: Zone Teams: Brad Knight asked that we please keep looking at the other options for elite player movement
