1 Policy: Club Name and Branding Approval: Saint Mary s Committee 2015 Date: November 2015 Date for Review: End of season 2016 Policy Statement This policy governs the use of the corporate and business names, logos, symbols, registered and unregistered trademarks, and other artifacts (collectively referred to as SMHC Brands in this document) which are used to identify the Club and its operations. Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to control SMHC Brands and intellectual property to ensure: that members, the wider hockey community, sponsors and members of the public know when an activity, statement, or document has the official endorsement of the Club to protect the reputation of the Club by restricting use of Club brands to activities and parties approved by the Committee to support fund-raising efforts and sponsor contractual arrangements by managing use of the Club s brands Scope: The policy applies to all members of the Club. The use of Corporate and business names, logos, symbols, registered and unregistered trademarks, and other artifacts ( SMHC Brands ) used by members and third parties requires written requests and committee approval under this policy. Specific SMHC Brands to which this policy applies are included as appendices to this policy. This may be updated from time to time by authority of the SMHC Committee and will be reviewed as part of the Committee s annual policy review. 1 Club name and Branding Policy Saint Mary s Hockey Club

2 Authorisation of club brands is to address: specific use o indication of the size and position o document, clothing or other artefact period of time o during specific event o must indicate specific timeframe (start and end of use) i.e. during a specific event NB: Limitations on the use (e.g. the approval may specifically state that the identifier is not to be used in association with commercial ventures). Circumstances in which approval might be individually and pre-emptively withdrawn by the Club (such as uses of, or actions by users of, the SMHC Brand which diminishes the reputation of the Club Register of approvals: A register of approvals shall be maintained by the Secretary. Prohibited Uses of SMHC Brands: Uses or circumstances for which permission cannot be given for use of a SMHC Brand include: Activities which are illegal or in breach of a Hockey Australia, NT Hockey Association, Darwin Hockey Association, or Club policies, rules or regulations Activities that may be detrimental to the reputation of the sport of hockey or the Club Promotion or association with political parties Where giving permission would breach an existing contractual arrangement with another party Responsibility for Implementation: All members of SMHC are responsible for the implementation of this policy. Compliance and Monitoring: The committee is responsible for the implementation of this policy and may delegate operational aspects of implementation to a member/s appointed by the Committee. 3 Definitions: SMHC Club Executive Committee SMHC brands Saint Mary s Hockey Club Refers to Saint Mary s Hockey Club Means a group comprising the President. Treasurer and Secretary or as specified by club s constitution Means the Committee of the Club, as elected or appointed under the Club s rules and constitution Refers to words, names, symbols, logos and other printed or spoken material that are used to indicate the existence, presence and activities of the Club 3 Club name and Branding Policy Saint Mary s Hockey Club

5 APPENDIX 2 Historical Background: The current SMHC badge in the shape of a shield was co designed by Tim Alcorn and Leigh Lockley and drawn by Tim Alcorn. This took place when the club changed from RSL and amalgamated with St Mary's Football Club in At one stage the club moved to a (tree green) uniform that was embroidered. The design on that uniform was designed by Leigh Lockley. It included a stylised 'Saints' word with a halo over the Capital S and a stick figure Saint Man with a hockey stick. The stick figure was adapted from the stick figure Saint Man used by the Saint Mary's Football Club and the traditional common stick figure Saint Man. Further to the above, The Stickman appears (or variants of) on virtually every edition of Simon Templar The Saint Adventures (TV series/ comics) and was created by the illustrator Eugene Hastain.
