1 SOUTHVIEW CUP TOURNAMENT RULES Play: 1. Play is 3 on 3 plus a goalie. Teams require at least 3 players plus a goalie in order for game to begin. 2. If team cannot make player limits, game will be forfeited and score will be recorded as Teams can have no more than 9 players plus a goalie. 4. Games will start on time, please be at the facility and ready to play 10 minutes before your game. 5. Teams that cannot field the minimum number of players (3 player + goalie) within 5 minutes of the start time will automatically get a default. At that time, teams are encouraged to mix up the players and play a fun game. 6. At no time will the forfeit be reversed after the fun game starts. 7. If a game is tied at the end of regulation during the round robin, it will remain a tie. 8. If a game is tied in the playoffs, the game will go to overtime. First goal wins. 9. If 2 or more teams are tied after the round robin portion, the tie breakers will be the team with the most wins, then the team with the highest goals for, then head to head results. 10. To be eligible to play in the Southview Cup, all players must have signed an on-line waiver.players that do not sign the waiver will not be allowed to play. 11. No roster substitutions will be allowed once the first tournament game begins. 12. There is no offsides. Once the face off has occurred, the whole rink is on side. 13. Games and halves will begin with a face-off. 14. The ball will change possession after every goal scored. The scoring team must retreat behind the center line until one member of the attacking team crosses the center line at which point the defending team may begin to attack. The attacking team must cross center in 10 seconds, or the defending team can attack.

2 15. During play, alternates can substitute, as teams deem necessary. No stoppage in play is necessary to make substitutions. 16. Standard hockey rules apply (no hand passes, kicked in goals, etc) 17. There can be no goaltender changes made during games, except in the case of injury. 18. When the ball is covered by the goaltender, the defending team gets possession of the ball behind their net. The opposing team needs to give the team at least 2 meters of space to set up. The attacking team has 10 seconds to make a move the ball forward before the defending team can attack. 19. If the ball goes out of play, the official will deem who caused the ball to leave the playing surface, and possession of the ball will be awarded to the other team. The team who caused the ball to leave the playing surface must send a participant to retrieve the lost ball. Time: 1. Games will be played in 30-minute allotments; including two-12 minutes halves, running time, separated by a three minutes half-time break. Post-Game: 1. The winning team captains must deliver the game s score sheet to the results desk together. Penalties: 1. A referee will be present at every game. The referee will call penalties and count goals. They will work with the score keeper to keep stats. 2. If the referee deem a game is getting too aggressive or out of hand, they have the right to end the game. The score when called, will stand. 3. All penalties will result in a penalty shot for the other team. 4. Southview has the right to expel anyone form the tournament who is overly aggressive or is abusive to the referee or staff. 5. Depending on the severity or injury due to a major penalty, Southview has the right to expel any player from the tournament.

3 6. Expelled players are not eligible for a refund. Infraction Penalties: 1. There shall be absolutely no slashing, hooking, tripping, cross checking, high sticking or inappropriate stick work of any kind. Doing so will result in a penalty shot for the other team. 2. Road hockey includes an inherent amount of body contact, however, absolutely no body checking will be allowed. If body checking occurs a penalty shot will be awarded for the other team. 3. Penalty shots will be taken immediately and the player who was victimized must take the shot unless injured. 4. If the penalty occurs against a goalie, (goalie interference, slashing the goalie etc.) the team may assign someone to take the goalie s place for the penalty shot. 5. A goalie is not allowed to cross center. if he does a minor penalty will be assessed. 6. Coincidental penalties will result in face off at center ice. The penalties will count toward the players penalty totals. 7. Major penalties as deemed by the referee to be any penalty that was vicious or with intent to injure will result in a game ejection. 2 penalty shots will be given. 8. If a player receives a major penalty in the last 2 minutes of a game, he will not be allowed to return to the game and will also be suspended for the following game. 9. More serious offenses, including but not limited to spearing and/or butt ending, shall result in an individual being immediately removed from the tournament. 10. Fighting is unacceptable and will result in the individual(s) being removed from the tournament. 11. Abuse of the officials will not be tolerated and may result in an individual or team being removed from the tournament. 12. Participants are not allowed to take more than 2 infraction penalties. If an individual takes more than 2 infraction penalties, they are no longer allowed to play the remainder of the game. 13. If a team has more than one individual receive multiple infraction penalties, they will be defaulted and receive a final score of 10-0 for the game.

4 Non-Infraction Penalties: 1. Slapshots will NOT be allowed. For the purpose of this tournament a slapshot is considered to be anything where the player s wind up comes above the knee. If the official deems a slapshot has been taken the other team will receive a penalty shot. 2. High-sticking the ball is not allowed. A high-stick is considered anything above the crossbar of the net. If a high-stick of the ball occurs the other team will be awarded a penalty shot. 3. Non-infraction penalties DO NOT go towards an individual s infraction penalty allotment. An individual can take as many of these penalties in a game without causing their team to be shorthanded. 4. Goalie may not cover the ball behind his net while not contacting the crease. Opposing team gets ball behind the net. Penalty Shots: 1. Regardless of the outcome of the penalty shot, the opposing team will begin with the ball behind their net. The defending team must give them 2 meters to set up. Equipment Requirements: 1. Goaltenders are required to bring their own full equipment. Helmet, blocker, glove, chest protector, stick and pads are all required for all goalies. Hockey pants and jock are recommended but not required. 2. Hockey stick (no floorball sticks), gloves, and running shoes are required for all players. Helmets and jock are recommended for all but will be optional. 3. Any type of hockey stick is allowed, but if the stick is chipped, sharp or deemed dangerous by the official the player may be asked to switch sticks prior to playing. Scoring: 1. In order to determine seeding for playoffs, goals for and against will be a deciding factor

5 Weather: 1. The tournament will be held outdoors and will proceed rain or shine except under conditions of severe weather systems. Severe weather may cause delays for scheduled game times. Please dress appropriate to the weather forecast. Player Code of Conduct: 1. Players are expected to engage in actions consistent with good sportsmanship. 2. Play and compete for player enjoyment, as well as for his/her team. 3. Learn, understand and respect the rules of the game. 4. Respect the rights and consider the safety of other players, administrators, and volunteers. Volunteer Referees: 1. Please be aware that the referees are kind volunteers donating their time over the weekend to help out and make this tournament happen. We are grateful to them for supporting our event. By no means can players be aggressive or disrespectful towards a volunteer. 2. If a player is disrespectful, the individual and/or team will be asked to leave the tournament without refund or compensation of any kind. These volunteers are kind enough to help out and there will be zero tolerance of any situation where a volunteer is made to be the target of abuse if an incorrect call is made. Player Expectations: 1. Players will be expected to understand that a Strict Rule policy will not be enforced by the referees. Again, the referees are not professionally trained or paid individuals. This tournament ultimately is for fun and a friendly competition. Violence: 1. Our referees will not be expected to break up any fights or intervene in separating players who fight. Any team who participates in fighting will be asked to leave and the Calgary Police may be contacted. Team Captains are responsible for all players on their teams. 2. Team captains will be responsible for their team mates actions

6 Injuries and Stoppage Time: 1. The clock will not stop for any injuries. If the injury is so severe that a player cannot get off the court, the clock will continue running. If this injury occurs in the first half the clock will continue running and hopefully teams will be able to begin play in the second half or play out the remainder of the first half. 2. If the injury occurs with more than 5 minutes left in the second half the clock will continue running. Once the player is taken off the court the teams will begin playing again with 5 minutes remaining on the clock regardless the length of time required to remove the injured player; Or players will continue play with the current amount of time left on the clock, depending on which is greater. 3. If the injury occurs with less than 2 minutes left in the second half the game will be called, and the team leading will win. If the game is tied, the teams will begin a shoot-out as soon as the player is removed. Ultimately it will be up to the referee at the rink to use their best discretion to indicate where/if play will continue. Their decisions are final.
