5 Role of the Coach SCRA expects that coaches will strive to provide a positive experience for the athletes (Fun, Safe, Respectful) Measurement for success is enjoyment of the players and returning each year } Teaching skill development } Coach development mentor all coaches, enhance skills and knowledge promote different styles and knowledge } Ethics - Acting with the highest ethics in accordance with the SCRA policies. } Respect - Treating all around you with the highest degree of respect. } Life Skills - Sharing teachings that will provide athletes with life lessons beyond the game of Ringette. } Coach Philosophy - Develop a coaching philosophy, evolve it over time, share it with parents and players } Time to play natural development is powerful 5

8 Fair Play Code for Coaches } will teach my players to play fairly and to respect the rules, officials and opponents. } I will ensure that all players get equal instruction, support and playing time. } I will not ridicule or yell at my players for making mistakes or for performing poorly. I will remember that players play to have fun and must be encouraged to have confidence in themselves. } I will remember that participants need a coach they can respect. I will be generous with praise and set a good example. 8

14 Cell Phone Policy } SC is currently evaluating a potential ban of cell phones in the change rooms. } Each team should develop their own policy in the meantime to limit the use of phones. 14

18 U7-U10 ABC Program The goals of the Ringette Canada Ringette ABC program are to: 1. Create an environment in which children and adults can have fun with Ringette 2. Teach Ringette skills, rules and strategy to our participants 3. Model and teach competitiveness with an emphasis on good sportsmanship 4. Promote increased self-esteem among Ringette ABC children and adults The Crucial Role of Coaches The most important individual in the Ringette ABC program is the coach. The coach is the person the participants look to for instruction, encouragement and inspiration. The assistant coaches, as well as the parents, take their cues from the coach. Therefore, success of the program is dependent on the coaches embracing our goals and working to achieve them. 18

19 Evaluations } Use UAA for U10, U12 and U14. } Exclusively game play for U16 and up. } Utilize coaches, parents from the next level to evaluate as well as industry professionals. } Committee determines the make up of the team based on quantitative results. 19

20 UAA } Become the first step in the SCRA U10 U14 evaluation process. } To provide an unbiased quantitative measure baseline of the athletes skill for future development purposes. } UAA will be used to establish appropriate start of season tiering levels for U10, U12 and U14 for the season and replace the current tiering formulas for U12 U14 and be used alongside the current U10 guideline to assist in team formation. 20

21 UAA The program was conceived to accomplish the following: Primary Objectives: 1) To help associations group athletes by stage. 2) To replace the team tiering formula for age groups U10, U12 and U14. 21

22 Coach Selection Process } Committee of 5 people including independent person. } Evaluate coaching applications and award points based on qualifications and previous coaching experience and discipline or complaints. } Select Head Coach and assist with assistant coach selections. } Evolving process each year. 22

26 Ice Scheduling } Now a 30 day cancellation policy. Can no longer be returned. } Try to give to the other team is sharing ice. } Team(s) are charged and will not receive more ice until paid for. } Try to manage equitably as possible and team size but tournaments interfere. } Intend to give 3-4 weeks at a time. } Younger teams get a few early morning practices. } vpscheduling@southcalgaryringette.com 26

27 Tournaments Tournament blocking rules: } 1 game change weekend first half, 1 blocked weekend second half and must block off by Nov 15, } Golden Ring is already blocked for all SC teams. 27
