1 CISAA-G HOCKEY GUIDELINES (Last edit June 18 th, 2018) 1. RULE BOOK a) The Ontario Women s Hockey Association Rulebook will be used. b) Any player receiving a gross misconduct or match penalty will be suspended for a minimum of 3 consecutive league and/or playoff games in the Div. i and Div. ii. c) Any player receiving a five-minute major or game misconduct is suspended for the next two CISAA league and/or playoff games, at all levels. The player could also be subject to a Discipline Review Committee hearing and further sanctions. Note: As per the official rulebook a player receiving a10-minute misconduct may return to play after serving the penalty. d) OFSAA redline ruling to be used. e) A maximum differential of 5 goals on the score board. Goals must still be recorded on the scorer s game sheet and added to the score board when necessary. f) Both coaches are responsible for reporting complete game results by fax, or phone to the convenor within 24 hours of the game. g) When the goal difference is five goals in the third period, the game will automatically go to running time, unless both coaches agree to maintain STOP time. h) An official CISAA score sheet must be used for all league games. When reporting scores, the coaches must also include all players for both teams (names and numbers) who received a penalty in the game. Game sheets are to be kept by both coaches in case they are needed by the convenor. The coaches/ Athletic Director must send the game sheet to the convenor if a suspension occurs. 2. SCHEDULING (League Structure) a) The format of the leagues will be determined by the number of entries in each age group and division. (see Current Format Summary, Appendix 1) b) The last day for league play is the Wednesday before the Saturday tournament or the Saturday prior to a Wednesday tournament 3. OFFICIALS Girls Hockey
2 a) The convenor is only responsible for booking officials for games, when agreed upon by the ADs. If a school changes the date and/or time of a league game, the AD s are responsible for notifying the officials and the convenor. b) There should be 2 carded OWHA referees for each game. In the case of no show referee, the game should be rescheduled. If the teams wish to play despite the lack of carded officials, the game will only be played as an exhibition game on mutual consent of both coaches prior to the start of the game. c) Timer and scorer for all games are supplied by the home team. 4. LENGTH OF GAME All girls hockey league games must be 3 x 15 minute stop time periods 5. SCORING FOR LEAGUE STANDINGS POINTS (to be used to calculate league standings) 2 points = Win 1 points = Tie 0 point = Loss 6. ELIGIBILTY (Age Group Grade 7 12) See constitutional guidelines Articles XIII, XIV, and XV 7. UNIFORMS 8. EQUIPMENT Full CSA approved equipment is mandatory at all levels. This includes neck guard for all players and throat protection for goaltenders. Mouth guards are also mandatory for all players. 9. PLAYOFFS - TOURNAMENT FORMAT See Constitution Article XVIII 10. TIE BREAKING FORMATS FOR LEAGUE STANDINGS Note: If more than two teams are tied and after any of the following tie breaking criteria all teams fail to remain tied then the remaining tied teams will revert to a) and the team(s) that fail to remain tied take their proper placing in the standings accordingly. e.g. Teams C, D, and E are tied for third place and have identical records at and have played each other once resulting in a combined 1-1 record for each of the three teams. Tiebreaker b) then would also be tied and we would progress to c). If at c), team Girls Hockey
3 C is +2, team D is +2 and team E is -4 then team E would take the lowest standing (fifth place) and teams C and D would revert to a). Conversely, if at c), team C is +4, team D is -2 and team E is -2 then team C would take the highest standing (third place) and teams D and E would revert to a). a) The record between the teams in their league game(s) - the team with the most points in the head to head game(s) takes the higher standing. b) The team with the most wins in all league games takes the higher standing. c) If b is tied, then the team with the higher goal differential in the head to head league game(s) takes the higher standing. The maximum differential in any one game cannot exceed 5 goals in calculating the goal differential. d) If c is tied, then the team with the higher goal differential in all league games takes the higher standing. The maximum differential in any one game cannot exceed 5 goals in calculating the goal differential. e) If d is tied, then the team with the higher goal differential in the head to head league game(s) takes the higher standing with no maximum differential in any one game. f) If e is tied, then the team with the higher goal differential in all league games takes the higher standing with no maximum differential in any one game. g) If "a" through "f" are tied, then the Convenor will flip a coin. The winner of the flip will take the higher standing. In the case of a multiple team flip, teams will flip until there is one odd team out who will then take the lowest standing. All remaining teams will revert to. h) Forfeitures - please refer to the Forfeitures section (Article 16, Section 1) of the Constitution Overtime Rules for Playoffs In all playoff games the overtime will consist of sudden victory - first goal wins. The ice will not be resurfaced at the conclusion of the game. There will be a 3-minute rest period. The teams will not change ends. The first overtime period will be 5 stop minutes. The teams will play with 4 skaters and a goaltender each for the entire 5 minutes. If the game is still tied, the teams will play with 3 skaters and a goaltender for a 15 stop minute period. If the game is still tied, the ice will be resurfaced (if possible) and the subsequent overtime periods will be 15 minute stop periods with floods after every 2nd period with each team playing with 3 skaters and a goaltender. Any team receiving a penalty in the 3 on 3 overtime will play shorthanded (4 on 3) for the duration of the penalty. An additional penalty will result in the team playing shorthanded 5 on ADDITIONAL PLAYING RULES Girls Hockey
4 none 12. CONVENOR RESPONSIBILITIES See the CISAA Constitution, Convenor s Responsibilities, Appendix SPORTSMANSHIP AND CONDUCT See CISAA constitution, Article XIX, Discipline 14. COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES AND HOST SCHOOL Both schools are responsible for ing the convenor, the Toronto Star and the visiting coach the game result as soon as possible following the game. The home team must supply the visiting team with pucks for the warm up 15. TROPHIES/AWARDS The Division 1 league champion will be the winner of the playoffs and will be awarded the Ratcliffe Cup in a formal ceremony. Winner of Division II will receive a CISAA plaque. CISAA medals will be awarded to CISAA-G Champions and runners up in all divisions in a formal ceremony. 16. GUIDELINES for OFSAA REPRESENTATION ONLY Division I teams may declare for OFSAA competition. Only OFSAA eligible players may play in a challenge game. A) Schools must play in Division 1 in the CISAA to be eligible to represent the CISAA at OFSAA Championships, OFSAA Provincial Championships and OFSAA Festivals. B) Schools playing in Division 1 leagues will follow the selection process outlined below for advancing to an OFSAA Championship. i) The Division 1 team declaring for OFSAA must lay only OFSAA eligible athletes in every game through the season. This includes league and exhibition matches. ii) Prior to the first league game, the teams that have declared for OFSAA must send in an AELS roster to the league convenor showing that all players are OFSAA eligible. iii) As per the chart below, unless the CISAA playoff dates are after the OFSAA entry deadline, the CISAA playoff results will be the first criteria employed to determine the OFSAA representative for each level. iv) If both teams were eliminated in the same round of the playoffs, the league standings will determine the CISAA representative at OFSAA. 5 v) If the teams were tied at the conclusion of the season, the CISAA tie-breaking criteria will decide the representative. vi) If teams were in different divisions ( east and west ) and playoffs cannot determine the higher seed, head to head results in the regular season will be used to determine the winner. vii) If teams were in different divisions ( east and west ) and playoffs cannot determine the higher seed, and the teams do not play in the regular season, ( GD1) an OFSAA qualifying game will be played OFSAA Qualifying Format / OFSAA Entry (updated as of June 18 th, 2018.) 6 17. SAFETY GUIDELINES The host school is responsible for providing medical care for all games at all levels. This person must be qualified to deal with athletic injuries and be prepared to handle emergency situations. Higher Risk Activity Equipment A fully stocked first aid kit must be readily accessible. A working communication device (e.g., cell phone) must be accessible. Determine that all equipment is safe for use. Sticks: regulation hockey sticks butt end must be covered with tape or a commercially made butt end checked for cracks and splinters Goalies must wear: properly fitting CSA approved helmet with full face mask throat protector catcher, blocker, leg pads chest and arm protector cup or pelvic protector Players must wear: properly fitting CSA-approved helmet with full face mask throat protector shin pads (cracked shin pads must be replaced immediately) pants shoulder and elbow pads gloves cup or pelvic protector Clothing/Footwear Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn. Properly fitting ice hockey skates. No jewelry. Facilities Determine that all facilities are safe for use. Ice surface must be free from debris and deep ruts. Break away net mandatory. Special Rules/Instructions Skills must be taught in proper progression. Games must be based on skills that are taught. Parents/guardians must be made aware of any off-campus activity and the means of transportation used. Be aware of athletes whose medical condition (e.g., asthma, anaphylaxis, casts, orthopaedic device) may affect participation. Girls Hockey
7 A student athlete s fitness level must be commensurate with the level of competition. Penalties for rule infractions must be strictly enforced. The number of games and skill competitions (e.g., agility, racing) in any one day must not present a safety concern. Prior to the first game, multiple practices on ice must have occurred. Link to the Provincial Sport Organization for this activity is: Supervision Constant visual supervision during initial practice of contact skills. On-site supervision thereafter. Head coach must demonstrate knowledge of game, skills, and strategies to principal or designate. Coaching qualifications for any higher risk sport must be derived from at least one of the following: NCCP Competition Introduction Trained/Certified This includes: Sport specific NCCP multi-sport Part A B Coaches that have completed level 1 or 2 certification in the past. Attendance at a clinic or workshop, provided by an instructor who is knowledgeable of the activity and where safety is addressed, within the last three years. Past experience (within the last 10 years) as a player or coach in that sport. An individual who takes responsibility for providing first aid to injured athletes must be present during the entire practice/competition. Girls Hockey
