2 Scouting the Buckeyes Ohio State Quickly: Ohio State comes to Baltimore looking to snap a five-game losing streak. The Buckeyes stood at 5- after a 9-5 win against Bellarmine on March 6, but now stand at 5-6 overall and 0- in the BG. Supinski, Foley and the team will travel to the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships, July 7-6 in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Supinski, a midfielder, and Foley, a defender, are the latest in a long line of Johns Hopkins men s lacrosse players to represent the United States on the U-9 team. Since the inception of the event in 988, they are the 8th and 9th members of the Blue Jay lacrosse program selected to the team. (Bob) Scott, the men s lacrosse coach at Johns Hopkins from 955-7, is among men who will comprise the Intercollegiate Men s Lacrosse Coaches Association s (IMLCA) inaugural Hall of Fame Induction Class. The will be honored in ceremonies scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 8 in Philadelphia as part of the weekend-long festivities surrounding the 06 NCAA Men s Lacrosse Championships. During his tenure as lacrosse coach, Scott guided Johns Hopkins to seven national championships, including the school s first NCAA Championship in his final season on the sideline in 97, and times his players earned first-team All-America recognition. He was selected as the USILA s Morris Touchstone Award recipient as the national coach of the year in 965, 968 and 97. His three Touchstone awards are tied for the most in Division I history. Scott compiled a record of during his 0-year coaching career at Homewood and ranked as the winningest coach in school history until 05. Quinn is no stranger to Homewood Field as he starred for Johns Hopkins from and helped the Blue Jays to the 98 and 985 NCAA Championships. Starting all 8 games in his final two seasons, Quinn posted a 7- record during that time, twice earned First Team USILA All-America honors, was tabbed the C. Markland Kelly Award winner as the nation s top goalie in 98 and 985 and earned Most Outstanding Player honors in the national championship game in each of those years as well. 25 06 Johns Hopkins Men s Lacrosse Notes Game-by-Game Recaps Game - Navy Navy-Marine Corps Stadium February 9, 06 ANNAPOLIS, MD The Johns Hopkins men s lacrosse team picked up its final win of the 05 season when the Blue Jays topped Syracuse by a goal in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Fast forward just over eight months and the 06 TM team notched its first win in equally thrilling fashion on Tuesday night as the Blue Jays topped Navy, -, in double overtime in the same stadium. The one-goal win marked the th Johns Hopkins-Navy game in the last in the series to be decided by one goal and is the first double overtime game between the two teams since Conor Ford beat the Mids with a goal in a 00 classic that featured topranked Hopkins and second-ranked Navy. Despite leading for nearly 57 minutes in regulation, the Blue Jays were forced into overtime when Navy got back-to-back goals from Jack Ray and Casey Rees both off assists from Kevin Wendel in the final :8 to send the game into extra time. Twice the Blue Jays had golden opportunities to win in the first overtime, but Navy goalie John Connors stopped Holden Cattoni with the Blue Jays up a man and then made a point-blank save on Shack Stanwick a short time later. His counterpart, Hopkins Brock Turnbaugh, made a crucial save of his own in the first overtime period, which ended with Navy s Matt Rees drawing an unnecessary roughness penalty with just one second remaining. After the Blue Jays turned the ball over on an extra-man chance, the Midshipmen got on the board with an extra-man strike of their own as Wendel blew one home off a skip pass from Patrick Keena. After Saturday s game, the seventh-ranked Blue Jays and eighth-ranked Greyhounds are still separated by just one, but it was Loyola that came out with the extra goal in a 9-8 win before a crowd of,868 at the Ridley Athletic Complex. For the Blue Jays (-), a 6- advantage in the second half wasn t quite enough to overcome a 5- halftime deficit. Johns Hopkins drew within a goal four times in the second half, but Loyola had an answer each time and a save by Grant Limone on Pat Fraser shot with 5 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the `Hounds. Hopkins had a golden opportunity to pull even a short time later when Loyola s Zach Davilakos was called for slashing, but the Blue Jays turned it over and Loyola capitalized. Just 50 seconds after the penalty expired it was Zach Herreweyers taking a crosscrease pass from Pat Spencer and firing into an open goal to make it 6-. It was 7-6 at the end of the third quarter after Kyle Marr s first career goal and a Fraser tally were wrapped around a Jeff Chase dodge and score for Loyola. Fraser s goal came with just seconds left in the period and appeared to give the momentum to the Blue Jays entering the final period. That momentum was gone seconds into the fourth quarter as Herreweyers rebound goal and a Brian Sherlock laser to the top shelf from nine yards out gave the `Hounds a 9-6 lead. Hopkins had several chances late, including a shot off the crossbar from senior Ryan Brown, a skip pass from Marr to a wide open Brown that didn t quite connect and Fraser s last-minute blast, but Loyola was able to maintain the one-goal lead and hold on for the victory. Loyola had a big statistical advantage in the opening quarter, but led just - after the first 5 minutes as Brown answered Loyola tallies in the first eight minutes before Johnny Giuffreda netted his first career goal with :9 left in the period. Chase and Spencer added second-quarter goals for Loyola, which didn t win a faceoff in the period, but got four saves from Limone to keep the Blue Jays scoreless. When it is, today s - 0 overtime victory against third-ranked Syracuse may take a bit more space then the rest of the chapters. The Blue Jays twice trailed their longtime rival by four in the first 0 minutes of the game, were down by three with less than 9 minutes left and still found themselves down by two with less than three minutes on the clock. There was also the noticeable absence of head coach Dave Pietramala, who missed the game due to an infection in his lower back. Johns Hopkins (-) faced all of that adversity and grabbed the key overtime victory by scoring twice in the final : to force overtime and then won on a rebound goal by junior Wilkins Dismuke :5 into overtime to lift the Blue Jays to their second consecutive win against a team ranked in the top 0. In a back and forth game that featured six ties and loads of momentum swings, it was Virginia that had the last salvo as the Cavaliers erased deficits of 0-9, -0 and - in the fourth quarter with Greg Coholan s goal with 0 seconds remaining in regulation forcing, what else, overtime. Rutgers improves to 8- overall and -0 in the Big Ten, while the Blue Jays slip to 5- overall and 0- in the Big Ten. Rutgers used two key scoring runs, one in each half, to take control and pull away from the Blue Jays. The second, a five-goal spurt that bridged the third and fourth quarters, turned a 9-6 lead into a -6 advantage early in the fourth quarter. The Blue Jays scored three of the first four goals of the second half to slice an 8- deficit to 9-6. A pair of goals by John Crawley and a goal from the crease by Wilkins Dismuke in a four-minute span early in the third quarter made it a three-goal game, but that would be as close as the Blue Jays would get.
