1 HERMANTOWN AMATEUR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Hockey Family Packet SEASON Welcome to Hermantown Hockey for the season! The following information will provide useful information for hockey families in Hermantown. The Hermantown Amateur Hockey Association (HAHA) is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors who oversees the operations and player development for all youth players and are elected at an annual meeting of members. Our Association is a member of and governed by both Minnesota Hockey and USA Hockey. Our teams currently compete in the District 11 winter league. One HAHA board member attends and participates in the operations of the District 11 Board. HAHA s most recent hockey seasons have registered over 300 players. The Hermantown girls program is a co-op with Proctor that offers elective girls youth hockey opportunities for the U8, U10, U12 & U15 age levels. Please contact any of the Board members on the next page if you have questions after reading this guide.

All parents are required to sign a Parent Code of Conduct each season following the USA Hockey Guidelines. Multi-Family Discounts - If you are registering more than one player in the Hermantown Amateur Hockey Association we offer a multi player family discount. The discount is applied to the following: Goalies on a team roster at Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam, U10, U12 or U15 levels are charged $0 Registration Fee, but are responsible for late season practice ice assessments (Jan 1st Feb 28th) and other standard team costs. If you have 3 players and one of them is a goalie at the SQ, PW, U10, U12, BN or U15 levels the lowest level player, excluding an Ice Mite, will be discounted to 25% of the registration fee. AdditionalCosts Each player at the Pee Wee, Bantam, U12 and U15 level are required to pay $100 coaching stipend. This additional cost is provided to the head coach of their team to offset some of their volunteer expenses during the season. Beginning January 1 st and running through the end of season, teams are responsible for indoor ice cost assessments. All indoor ice practices/scrimmages at the Hermantown arena and other indoor facilities are charged back to the teams based on their utilization of the facilities. Each team manager divides the ice cost in the way of assessments back to each family on the team roster. There is a three week cancellation deadline to avoid being charged for the ice time. HAHA pays for all essential costs for the home tournament and away tournaments up to the number above. Any gate fees at away tournaments are assessed to the teams for payment by the parents as well as any scrimmages set up by the team. Fundraising - Coupon Book All families are required to participate in the coupon book fundraising event. During registration, each family purchases 10 books for the oldest player and 5 books for each additional player registered. Ice Mites are not required to participate in the coupon book sales event. Additional books are available upon request of the Equipment Manager. Selling of additional books is highly recommended with prizes awarded to top sellers. HAHA fundraising coupon books have been very successful and many individuals in the community look forward to purchasing these books. This fundraiser is intended to collect money from the families at the time of registration and give each family the ability to be reimbursed for these funds as they sell their books. Coupon book pickup: To Be Determined will be sent when dates/locations made.

5 Concession Stand A fee of $85 for single-players, and $125 for muli-player families was assessed to you during registration. This assessment pays for student workers during the year-round season (summer, school year, and tournaments). Additional Requirements The HAHA organization would not be successful nor survive without the commitment of our parents. These include the following: Outdoor rink flooding throughout the season each team will have a flood coordinator that will work with team parents and the outside rink coordinator for nightly work on the outdoor facilities. Home games for each home game we are required to supply game officials, and 3-4 parents to run the clock, fill out the score/game book, and monitor each of the penalty boxes Home tournaments for each game, Hermantown teams are required to supply game officials, and 3-4 parents to run the clock, fill out the score/game book, and monitor each of the penalty boxes. ADDITIONALL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE but are not limited to: Sale of any event merchandise (clothing) Advertising & collecting money for chuck-a-puck Organize player gifts Cleanup of facilities Each team requires a manager to coordinate their season schedule, work with Association and many other duties. On-Ice Events HAHA Sponsored Camps HAHA runs camps prior to the start of the season and after the season ends for all HAHA registered players. Camps are free to all players having completed all registration requirements. These camps are listed on the website on the HAHA Camps page for each level. At times when numbers dictate, we will divide a level into multiple groups, to reduce the number of skaters on the ice. Fall Power Skating Camp (Bronwynn Pichetti): TBD will come in separate Goalie Camps Typically scheduled for all HAHA registered goalies or those players interested in goaltending mid to late September. These are intended to teach basic skills and prepare the goalies for the pre tryout camps. In addition, this provides a good opportunity for younger players to try this position in a non stress environment. Goalie equipment is provided for players who wish to try the position. Periodically goalie sessions are scheduled during the season dates are communicated through the team managers and the HAHA website. Boys & Girls Fall camps Typically start the first week of October and run for approximately eight sessions concluding at start of tryouts for the Squirt (U10), Pee Wee (U12) and Bantam (U15) levels. Girls programs are operated as a coop. Ice time is split between the Hermantown and Proctor arenas. Boys Tryouts Tryouts are held for all Bantam and Pee Wee AA/A teams and the Squirt A team the second week of October. Near the end of tryouts, we typically reduce the number of skaters to give the coaches and evaluators a better opportunity to see the players function in practice and game situations. This reduced tryout squad will participate in a scrimmage or round robin scrimmage set for final team selection. All teams are formed prior to the MEA weekend. During the tryouts, evaluators will rank the players to assist in placement of all teams at that level.

6 Girls Tryouts Tryouts are held for all A teams the second week of October. Teams are tentatively formed prior to the MEA weekend (exception: U15 team posting may be delayed until after varsity tryouts are complete). During the tryouts, evaluators will rank players from top to bottom to assist in placement for selecting the B level teams. Communication regarding final team selection will be posted on the website. Outdoor & Indoor Ice Use All levels have practices scheduled on our outdoor ice that is maintained by paid HAHA staff. Practices are held at the Hermantown arena complex which has 1 indoor sheet of ice and 4 outdoor sheets of ice designated for practices and occasional outdoor games. 1 outdoor sheet is for Rink Rat only, and 1 additional sheet for pleasure/community skating. Typical outdoor ice flooding starts in early December. Most games are scheduled on the indoor ice sheet though Outdoor Rink 3 has player/penalty boxes and electronic scoreboard and does host occasional outdoor games. Rink 3 was center stage when Hermantown hosted Hockey Day Minnesota in 2010! In addition to scheduled practices at Hermantown, ice is also rented at various other local arenas. Girls Youth & High School hockey programs are a co op with Proctor. Every other week practices and games are rotated between the Hermantown and Proctor arenas. Post Season 4-on-4 Move Up Ca mps After the season ends and all teams have completed play, HAHA sponsors 4 on 4 scrimmages that run for approximately 8 sessions. These sessions are intended to allow players moving into the next level of play to skate with players returning at that level for their second season. Players attend the age level they will participate in next season. Our intentions are to show the players where their skill level is in comparison with the next age level of players and hopefully provide insight for the players and family for summer player development. Camp Schedules and Team Schedules Finding and tracking your players schedules All fall camp and tryout schedules are automatically uploaded to the HAHA website. During the camp and tryout sessions make sure you understand which group your player is skating with. Mites and squirts are typically broken up into 2 4 groups depending on the number of players (i.e. SQ G1, SQ G2 M1 G1, M2 G1, etc.) Our intentions are to rotate these groups to assure fair ice time and rotation of players on the ice to allow the coaching staff smaller groups to work with during the camps and tryouts. All Camp schedules and tryout schedules are listed on the calendar on the HAHA Home page under the HAHA Camps tab in the left margin. Once your player is assigned a fall camp and/or tryout group designation you will have the opportunity to configure the website calendar to feed their schedule to your smartphone using the ical app. See the notes at the bottom of the camp page under the calendar for configuration to display the appropriate team calendars. For additional information on configuring your player(s) calendar to your iphone see the training guides located on the Team Managers webpage found in the left margin of the HAHA Home page.
