1 Taylor County 4-H Newsletter 4-H Summer Camp applications are due this FRIDAY, MAY, 19th 2017! Cooperative Extension Service Taylor County 1143 South Columbia Avenue Campbellsville KY Phone: (270) Fax: (270) website: May 2017 Amanda L. 2 Taylor County Fair June 3rd - 10th The county 4-H Tractor and Lawnmower Driving Contests have been scheduled for Wednesday, May 31st. The contest tests both your safety knowledge and your ability to drive through a course. Contestants can choose to do either the lawnmower course, or the tractor course, or both. You may wish to practice at home, but feel free to come to the contest and give it a try, even if you are not able to practice at home. Those participants with the top scores will have the opportunity to advance to the area contest and area winners go on to compete at the state fair. For the contest, a course will be set up. Each contestant will drive through the course and be scored. The course includes driving through an area with only a few inches on each side. Contestants must also back up and make several turns. The contest will determine how well you can maneuver the tractor or lawnmower. The course will be explained to all contestants before they are asked to drive. A copy of the score sheets and course layouts for each contest may be picked up at the Extension Office at 1143 South Columbia Avenue. It will be held at the Taylor County Fairgrounds beginning at 3:00 p.m. Just look for the tractor and lawn mower. Contestants will go in the order they arrive. The contest shouldn t last more than two hours. If you need to come and compete and then leave, you may do so. Those winning the county contest will compete in the area event, which will be held in Pulaski County. Please call the Extension Office at before Friday, May 26th, if you would like to register for the contest. I hope to see you on the 31st. It should be a fun and educational experience. Don t worry if you haven t participated in this contest before. We will help you through the course and answer any questions you may have.
