There will be 2 judges at each station, from different troops. Any questions, problems or comments to be addressed with host troop staff prior to campfire. Campfire: Each troop / patrol must provide a skit or song
3 How Wide and How High: Six Scout team; judged on accuracy. On a field, draw two lines 20 to 40 m apart to represent the banks of a river. A central point will be marked on each bank to use for measurement verification. Using various methods, Scouts estimate the distance between the lines. Use various methods to estimate the height of a pole. There will be a mark on ground level at the base of the pole for the height verification.!!!!! NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED FOR THIS!!!!! Log Drag: Practice that timber hitch, because it may come in handy. The Scouts run to the log and tie a timber hitch to one end of the log and a bowline to the other end of the rope. Three Scouts get inside the bowline and drag the log across the line. They will then remove the rope, hand it to 3 scouts waiting at the line. The 3 scouts there will then repeat the task returning the log to the starting position. This is a timed event for the patrol. Rope and log will be provided. Save the log: This will be a timed event. Log must be lifted at least 2 foot off of the ground for the task to be completed. All knots and lashings must be tied correctly. There will be a 5 second penalty for any knots or lashings tied incorrectly. Judge will show patrol leader any knots or lashings that are incorrect before deductions are made. Knots are to be tied in the order listed. Maximum time of 45 min will be allowed for this event. Time will start when patrol leader says they are ready, and stop when patrol leader tells judge that they are done. Knots to be tied by 1 scout at time. Up to 3 Scouts may set, anchor and lash the end supporting stakes. 12 pieces of rope, 2 posts, 4 stakes, 1 log, and a hammer will be provided. Upon completion of the task, each patrol must dismantle and place all supplies back into orderly pile at the starting point before moving on to next station. Caterpillar Walk: Each patrol will be given two 2 X 4 s with rope handles attached. The patrol members will line up facing forward one behind the other. They will stand together on the 2 X 4 s and grab the rope handles, located front and back. Together with their feet remaining in contact with the 2 X 4 they will walk 50 feet. If anyone steps off of the 2 X 4, patrol will need to start over. This will be a timed event. Cooking competition: Will be a Dutch oven desert. Must be cooked on site by scouts. Samples to be delivered to the judging station by 5:30 pm, with the judging sheet. Scoutmasters Challenge: Will be announced at Cracker-barrel
