2 A Note to Contestants Welcome to the Miss Patton 2010 Pageants. Whether this is your first pageant or you are a veteran, the Miss Patton Pageants is a pageant with a purpose. The Miss Patton Pageants are looking for young ladies that are confident, personable, friendly, outgoing, and most importantly a role model for other young ladies to look up to. During their reign, the Miss Patton Representatives will have the opportunity to encourage and inspire their peers to be student and community leaders. We are excited about what the future holds and excited that you have decided to become a part of history by joining the many firsts at Patton High School. Best wishes on your adventure and Good Luck. 3 ATTENDANCE: Attendance is mandatory at all scheduled events. Failure to attend scheduled events may result in disqualification. Please refer to your calendar for your rehearsal schedule. Contestants are also expected to be on time to all events. Tardiness causes the entire group to fall behind. Please be respectful of other contestants and arrive BE ON TIME. ATTIRE: Please refer to your division for attire guidelines. Failure to follow the guidelines will result in disqualification. In addition, ALL contestants will be performing in an opening number. Opening Number Contestants will introduce themselves to the audience and judges during the opening number. Contestants will wear jeans and white tennis shoes (remember you will be moving during this time, so wear something you are comfortable in), and their Pageant t-shirt. Each contestant will be given their Pageant t-shirt at the final rehearsal. Tiny Miss, Grades K-2 Tiny Miss Contestants will complete in SUNDAY BEST dress only. Pageant dresses are not allowed in this age division. Easter Dresses are allowed. Little Miss, Grades 3-5 Little Miss Contestants will complete in SUNDAY BEST dress only. Pageant dresses are not allowed in this age division. Easter Dresses are allowed. Junior Miss, Grades 6-8 Junior Miss Contestants will complete in casual wear and evening wear. Pageant dresses are allowed in this age division but not required. Miss Patton Contestants need to possess inner beauty and confidence not an expensive gown. Since we are looking for role models the only suggestion is that you wear a gown that is age appropriate. Please refer to the information below for attire specifics. In addition, contestants will have the opportunity to meet with the judges during an informal Meet-n-Greet prior to the opening number. This will be an opportunity for you to introduce yourself and show your personality. This is not a judged event, so be yourself. Miss Patton, Grades 9-12 Miss Patton Contestants will compete in casual wear, evening wear, and individual interview with the judges

4 Casual Wear - The casual wear phase of competition is designed for the contestant to present herself as a dynamic, contemporary, beautiful and 'natural' young woman. This is an opportunity to see if the contestant can connect with the audience. The casual wear should compliment the contestant's personality and express her style and preferences. Judges are not to judge the casual wear itself and keep in mind that what is 'casual wear' in a metropolitan area may not be the same as 'casual wear' in a rural area. Her casual wear (not the value of the casual wear) should complement the contestant's individuality. Casual wear should be age appropriate, off the rack (OTR), and should have all original tags still intact. It can be tailored to fit but cannot be custom made. No restrictions on material. The addition of additional stones, sequins, and trim are allowed. Evening Wear - This is the elegance and grace portion of the competition. Keep in mind during evening wear competition that it is you being judged, not the evening clothes you are wearing. This is, however, a time for your stage presence to shine. Relax, be yourself and let your true beauty shine through. Let the audience see your self confidence and poise and personality and let them shine. Select a gown that you would feel comfortable wearing for an evening out on the town for a formal occasion. Make sure it fits properly (no puckers or creases). Select a color and fabric that look good on you. Make sure you feel comfortable in the gown. You should wear it...it should not wear you. It doesn t have to be beaded or expensive to look like a million bucks on you. Interview with the Judges This is the opportunity for you to show off your personality. The judge s will be asking you a series of questions based on you application and today s current events. You will be judged on your responses and pose, not on how your answers compare to other contestants. The interview will take place prior to the opening number and will last approximately 5-10 minutes per contestant. CALENDAR: Please refer to the attached calendar for a complete schedule of events and times. CONDUCT: It is our desire to create an environment that fosters friendly competition and fellowship. We look forward to producing a high quality pageant experience for all who have made the decision to be a part of the Miss Patton Pageant Family. Contestants, family members, and friends of the contestants are expected to show good sportsmanship throughout the pageant. Contestants are to be of good moral character and during the course of the Pageant must refrain from committing any act inconsistent with the highest standards of public morality. She shall not make statements or act in any way that would reflect negatively upon the Miss Patton Pageants. She must not have convicted of any offence. Contestants will be held liable for slander of the Miss Patton Pageants, other Contestants, Judges, or any one affiliated with Pageants. Defamatory verbal and/or - 3 -

5 written remarks against the Miss Patton Pageants will result in immediate disqualification. Contestants must not appear in any provocative photographs prior to, or during her reign. Failure to abide by these rules will result in immediate disqualification and/or being stripped of your crown CONTESTANT NUMBERS: Contestants will randomly draw their individual contestant number at the first rehearsal. Numbers can not be assigned or switched with other contestants. CONTESTANT PICTURES: Contestants will have their individual picture (head shot only) taken at the first rehearsal. These photos will be placed in the program accompanied by biographically information that you provided on your application and any sponsors that you have received. DRESSING ROOMS: No parents, friends, hairdressers, etc. will be allowed backstage during the pageant*. Only contestants and authorized personal will be allowed backstage. Anyone that is not either a contestant or event staff must leave the staging area 45 minutes prior to the start of the event. Pageant staff will be available to aid contestants with last minute details. Contestants are expected to bring everything they need to compete in the pageant. Pageant staff will not have nor provide safety pins, bobby pins, etc. Security will be posted at the doorways leading to the dressing rooms. Dressing room rules are strictly enforced. *K-5 contestants may bring one parent/guardian to be with them in the dressing room during the pageant. Parents will not be allowed in the staging area during the pageant. No other guests are allowed backstage. ELIGIBILITY: Contestants participating in the Tiny Miss, Little Miss, and Junior Miss Pageants must live in the Patton High School district as defined by Burke County Public Schools. Contestants participating in the Miss Patton Pageant, grades 9 12, must be enrolled as a student at Patton High School and have least 2.5 GPA. Contestant may not have received Out-of-School Suspension for the school year in which they are competing. Students who have received more than 2 discipline referrals (this includes tardy referrals) may also be ineligible to compete for a Miss Patton title. If any Contestant is found to be ineligibly to compete in the Miss Patton Pageants, they will immediately be disqualified without refund

6 JUDGING: Please refer to the sample Score sheets for more information about what criteria you will be judge during the Pageant. Judges decisions are final. Judges score sheets will NOT be given out after the pageant. If you would like a copy of your score sheets, bring a selfaddressed stamped envelope to one of the rehearsal sessions. Score sheets will be mailed two weeks after the pageant. PROGRAM SPONSORS: This is completely optional and no contestant should feel obligated to raise additional financial support. Since the Miss Patton Pageants is a fundraiser for the PHS Student Government Association, we want to encourage everyone to raise as much financial support as possible and therefore to honor the young lady who raised the most support we have the Miss Patton Sweetheart Crown and we include her in the activities and appearances with the other queens during her reign. Each contestant may raise financial support (beyond the entry fee) through businesses, family, and friends. Sponsors will be listed in the program with each contestant s picture and biographical information. Sweetheart Sponsorship Forms will be available at the time registration or online. Individuals who raise at least $150 in sponsorships will be individually recognized and receive a rose. The individual who raises the most money through sponsors, both in the youth and high school divisions, will be recognized and receive a tiara, sash, trophy, and flowers. All Sponsorship forms and money are due at the last mandatory rehearsal. Judges will not be aware of who has or has not participated in the program sponsorship. PRIZES: Each contestant will receive a t-shirt, trophy, small tiara, and princess sash. Title winners will receive an additional trophy, sash, tiara, crown pin, and flowers. Title winners will also represent Patton High School at various events throughout their reign. Alternates will receive recognition and flowers. Additional prizes will vary. REHEARSALS: Rehearsals are very important and are closed to all spectators*. During the rehearsal sessions we will be learning the opening number, practicing how to enter and exit the stage, how to walk and turn, as well as discussing other important matters concerning the Miss Patton Pageants. Contestants are encouraged to bring shoes they are wearing with their dresses. Each contestant is required to attend all of the mandatory pageant rehearsal sessions and contestants will also not be allowed to leave early. Failure to attend any of the practices may result in disqualification. Parents of contestants may wait in the cafeteria or commons area for their child. *K-5 contestants may bring one parent/guardian to be with them during rehearsals. No other - 5 -

7 guests are allowed in rehearsals. Contestant t-shirts will be distributed at the last rehearsal. Please refer to your calendar for your specific dates. TICKETS: Tickets will be sold for $2 and will be available at each practice. Tickets may also be purchased at the door if seating is still available. Ticket price includes admission to the pageant and a program. TITLES & SPECIAL AWARDS: The titles and special awards will be presented during the coronation. Parents and/or friends will not be allowed on stage during this time. Patton People s Choice: individual voted on by the audience during the Miss Patton Pageant, grades Votes are $1.00 each and will be cast before the start of the pageant and during intermission. Winner will be recognized and receive a tiara, sash, trophy, and flowers. Miss Junior Patton: individual in grades 6-7 who receives the highest combined judge s score. Winner will be recognized and receive a tiara, sash, trophy, and flowers. Miss Patton: individual in grades 9-12 who receives the highest combined judge s score. Winner will be recognized and receive a tiara, sash, trophy, and flowers

Attention given to turns and runway pattern o o Personality, Stage Presence: Attention given to natural smile and eye contact. Overall Appearance: Does the contestant wear the dress of the dress wear the contestant? Attention will be given to age appropriateness and to the overall image the contestant is portraying. Personal style and grooming. At no time will comparison judging be used. Each contestant is awarded a score based upon her individual merits
