1 Pennsylvania State 4-H Clover Award Program Purpose: To encourage 4-H members to engage in a variety of projects and activities, in addition to enabling members to acquire the seven Leadership Life Skills: Communicating; Decision Making and Problem Solving; Getting Along with Others; Learning to Learn; Managing; Understanding Self; and Working in Groups. Background: The Pennsylvania State 4-H Clover Award Program encompasses leadership skill development in 4-H members as they grow in the 4-H program. Levels are based off of the Achievement Ladder curriculum, Stepping Stones curriculum, and materials developed by staff in Bucks, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties. Prerequisites for ALL LEVELS: 1. Member must attend a minimum of 60% of club meetings and complete at least one approved 4-H project during the program year. 2. Member can only complete one level per program year. ** 1 P age

2 LEVEL 6: Diamond Clover a two-year level Member must complete EIGHT of the following over two years: 1. Serve as a club officer, committee chair, or teen leader (Working with Groups) 2. Provide leadership for a club or community service-learning project (Understanding Self) 3. Provide leadership for a club or community fundraiser (Making Decisions) 4. Provide leadership for a club or county 4-H activity or event (Getting Along with Others) 5. Attend a 4-H communications event (Communicating) 6. Attend at least one state 4-H event (Getting Along with Others) 7. Participate in a national 4-H event (Working with Groups) 8. Help a younger member with a project or demonstration (Managing) 9. Attend camp or another overnight event and provide a report to your club. (Learning to Learn) 10. Participate in an interstate exchange (Working with Groups) 11. Complete at least one 4-H project from a NEW AND DIFFERENT PROJECT AREA i.e. take photography when you usually take horse. (Managing) AND conduct a major service-learning project. Diamond Clover Service Learning Project Guidelines: The service learning project will take two 4-H program years to complete, consisting of the first year for planning and the second year for implementing. All project plans MUST be approved by the County 4-H Educator and 4-H State Office BEFORE the member begins. During year one and the planning stage, the member must complete the Level 6--Diamond Clover-PLANNING Form in its entirety to be submitted for approval. This acts as a guide for the member to begin developing their project. During year two, the member must complete the Level 6--Diamond Clover-REPORTING Form, which asks them to reflect on the project they created and implemented. The culminating award for Diamond level achievers will be a partial scholarship to attend State Leadership Conference the year following completion of their Diamond project. Participate in an interstate exchange. Attend a national 4-H event. Serve on 4-H County Council Complete explanations for the 4 tasks you completed. Explanations should be in sentence form and show what you learned from the experience. Explanations should be age appropriate. Example Explanation: Correct: I participated in the County Communications Contest. I gave a speech on how to groom a dog. I learned more about dog grooming. I learned it isn t so scary to give a speech and once I got up there I did okay. I will be doing a speech next year too. Incorrect: Gave a speech at communication contest.

5 Service Project Reflection Tell us about your year of implementing the approved service project. Be creative in your final report in use of media format. In your report, include the following: What was your project and describe the steps you took to complete it. Did the project follow the plan? If changes to the plan were made, explain why the changes were necessary. What challenges or victories did you encounter? In what way did the community benefit from the project? Give examples of how you directed the project rather than doing the work yourself. In what ways did you demonstrate leadership to others?
