2 Welcome Hello Friends and Neighbors, To The Bulls Born & Raised Where Corn Don t Grow!! Annual Bull Sale Welcome to our 24th Annual bull sale! We are as excited about this group of bulls as any in the past. From top to bottom we feel this set of bulls is as even as we have raised. As a seedstock producer we want to provide our customers with the quality of cattle that will improve their herds. Powder River Angus Bulls can keep you profitable through any economic conditions. When drought strikes we feel these cattle can weather it better than most and when conditions are good the cattle will flourish. Our first priority is fertility which is reflected in the bigger than average scrotal bulls. Large scrotal bulls produce more fertile daughters! Structure is the next priority, sound feet and legs are imperative in range operations or anywhere for that matter. Udder quality is something we ve worked on diligently. Check out the adjusted 205 day weights on these bulls and you will find them very respectable. This performance came off native pasture, out of moderately sized cows with minimal inputs. The biggest value in a Powder River Angus Bull are the females you will retain in your herd. Calving ease is very important in our region. We have a large selection of calving ease bulls. Many of these bulls can be mated with first calf heifers with confidence knowing they will calve easily and the calves will be vigorous with a lot of growth. A quiet disposition is something we require in our cattle. We have a zero tolerance for wild or mean cattle. They are culled without exception. We work our cattle many times through the year and any unfavorable behavior is documented and the animal is culled. It has been researched extensively that gentle cattle will perform at higher levels than nervous and wild cattle. Feet and Udders We have been foot and udder scoring our Dams for the last few years. Foot structure is becoming a real problem in the Angus breed. We have been caught in the bad feet scenario and have been diligently researching, mating and culling to achieve total soundness in our cattle. This will be a work in progress but one we take very serious. We feel our udder quality is superb. We do not have a cow with an unsightly udder. Rest assured the females you retain will have the same great udder quality. We have been developing the bulls on a dry pellet formalized by Hubbard Feeds to promote skeletal growth and muscle development without adding on additional fat. These bulls will look hard and fit and the cooler ration will keep better hoof structure. We feel this method of feeding will help with longevity of these bulls and keep them in your herd for longer periods of time. The bulls also receive free choice long stem grass hay. Ultrasound Carcass data has been collected on the bulls in the offering and will be available sale day. The last few years we retained the steer mates to our bull calves, feeding them at Chappell Feedlot in Nebraska and applying the information back into our cow herd. We have sold fat cattle on the grid and know these cattle feed, gain, and grade very well. Although our main concern is making functional females we recognize all cattle eventually end up in the food chain. Retained Interest The breeder will be retaining a one-third revenue sharing interest in every bull selling in the sale. Full possession and salvage value sells on all bulls. Supplemental Information A supplement data sheet will be available sale day with scrotal measurements, ultrasound data and other updates. Announcements from the auction block take precedence over catalog information. Food and Refreshments Lunch and refreshments will be available prior to the sale. Liability All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. Powder River Angus and Buffalo Livestock Auction assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents which may occur. Calving Ease Recommendation Each bull in the sale has been assigned a calving ease score. This is our best estimate based on a number of factors including pedigree, birth weight and our knowledge of the sire and dam. All buyers should take into account their own program when considering these recommendations. Please talk to us prior to the sale if you have questions about the scores. Trucking Delivery of all bulls is free of charge in Wyoming and adjoining states. Delivery of bulls will begin around April 1st. Wintering All bulls will be wintered free of charge until April 1, 2018 at Powder River Angus in Spotted Horse and delivery will take place from there. If you choose to leave your bulls past April 1st, feeding arrangements can be made at the buyers expense. Herd Health All bulls will be tested BVD PI Negative. All cattle sell with proper health papers for interstate shipment. A rigid herd health program is followed. All cattle have been calf hood vaccinated with 7-way Somnus at branding and at weaning along with IBR, BVD, BRSV, Pasturella and a Dectomax Pour On. Fertility The bulls will all be fertility tested by a licensed veterinarian prior to delivery. Bulls are expected to make it through their first breeding season (60 days from turn out). Death or injury to bull(s) needs to be verified by a licensed DVM. Powder River Angus will either give credit to the buyer or replace injured bull(s) at their discretion, if a comparable bull(s) is available. Absentee Bidding If you are unable to attend but would still like to participate in the sale we have several different options. You can contact the breeder, auctioneer or representatives prior to the sale to discuss your needs. You may also bid live on the internet using Cattle USA or join a conference call hosted by Bill Pelton Livestock. Instructions for these two options are bellow.
