1 View this in your browser I come from one of "those" families where 4-H grows deep. My daughters are 4th generation 4-Her's, believe it or not all in the Northwest and Urban Missouri Region. My dad's family lived in the Nashua/KC area on a farm. Later my grandparents made Gower, MO their hometown and now raise commercial dairy heifers with my dad and brother. I worked along my dad growing up and my work ethic comes from my family lineage. 4-H wasn't just a task to do, it was a way of living. My parents worked with my club leader and project leaders to make sure I was able to experience a wide a variety of project areas. I learned what was the difference between a floppy disk and a hard drive, the difference between a Ephemeroptera or a Phasmotodea (insects), or even difference between a MIG or ARC (welding). Most importantly I learned to importance to pledge my head to clear thinking, heart for greater loyalty, hand for better service and health for better living, for my club, community and world. Bottom line I am thankful to have my parents and other adults that were willing to lead or the willingness to learn right along with me. In return, I know my parents benefited from the 4-H program just as much as I did. You can call it's a family affair. If you are a family that 4-H grows deep in your family or just starting out a new tradition for your family, I applaud you using the 4-H model as a backbone for your child and your families success. 4-H is a truly rewarding experience. I am grateful to be in this position to create, connect, and educate using the 4-H model. As you may know, the mission of Missouri 4-H is engaging youth as valued, contributing members of their communities in partnership with caring adults. The piece that sometimes isn't valued very much is the "partnership with caring adults". Platte County is so well off with volunteers, but there is so much more room to grow. How would you fit in this years program? How are you going to contribute? Is it making sure your youth makes it to majority of club meetings and or project meetings? Is it raising your hand to bring snacks at the next meeting? How about organizing an activity at the next 4-H gathering? Or share your knowledge area with a group of interested youth? 4 Platte County 4-H will be kicking off Meat Judging program on Tuesday, Nov. 20 th at 6:30pm at American Chianina Assoc Prairie View Road, Platte City, MO Teams will be formed to start preparing for the MO State 4-H Meat Judging Contest. The Meat Identification and Judging Contest has been developed to encourage 4-H members to develop skills and abilities needed to enter and advance in careers in the meat industry. These activities are designed to encourage the development of broader analytical skills, critical thinking, the use and understanding of appropriate meat terminology, and the evaluation of meat animal products to optimize economic returns not only to them as producers, but to them as consumers as well. 5 CALLING ALL WELDERS! We have a unique service project that needs to be completed. If you would like to help build a bleacher to be used at the Fairgrounds during the Livestock Show and other events. Funding for the bleacher is provided by the Platte County Farm Bureau Grant. 6 This past weekend, was Regional 4-H Energizer! Youth learned things like trajectory in the shooting sport workshop, to seeing the world through virtual reality, and made their own smoothies with blender bikes.
