4 SJWF Range Rules It is important that the range rules are understood and followed by all members. Safety is our number one priority. 1. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction, either down range or in the upright position. 2. Treat every firearm as if it was loaded. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. 4. Know your target and what is beyond your target. 5. All Firearms must be unloaded and actions open when not on the firing line. 6. All repairs or adjustments must be made in the designated area. 7. No one is permitted to handle a firearm when people are down range. 8. Always be sure that you have the correct ammunition for the firearm. 9. Always establish one firing line. 10. Do not go down range on the long silhouette range past 100 yards, when shooting is in progress on the bench rest range. 11. No tracer or armor piercing ammunition is allowed. 12. No alcoholic beverages are allowed. 13. Follow the rules for each range: The East Canyon is for pistol, rifles that shoot pistol cartridges and shotguns. The East ranges are for high power rifles. The main building is for indoor small bore matches. The first West range is for pistol and rifles that shoot pistol cartridges and cartridges listed on the range sign. The West shotgun range is for shotgun only. Thrown targets can only be shot on the West shotgun range. The South shotgun patterning range is for shotgun only. 14. When shooting at the silhouettes, do not shoot at an angle, shoot straight at them. 15. Shotguns are not to be fired at the Celotex target boards. These are for rifle and pistols only. 16. General officer elections will be held in January. Special elections are permitted when deemed necessary by a majority vote of the board. Officer's terms begin at the first Executive Committee meeting following their election. The Secretary shall record the names of the directors and their terms and shall maintain such record on a monthly basis and shall be the final authority for the beginning and expiration of all directors' terms. ARTICLE VI-OFFICERS Section 1 Election and Qualifications of the Executive Committee and Range Officers The elected officers of the corporation shall be a President, Vice President, Executive Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, Outdoor Range Officer, Indoor Range Officer, and Chief Instructor, who shall be nominated and seconded at the regular meeting of the corporation. Any person may hold more than one office, except no person shall hold both the offices of President or Vice President or Executive Officer and Board Member at the same time. At least one (1) year experience as a Corporate Officer or Board Member is a prerequisite to being elected President. Two Director seats are up this year: Billy Stalcup and Mike Reitz. If you want to put your hat in the ring, now is the time to step forward and do so. Also we will be voting for a new President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and two range officers. Step up to the plate ladies and gentlemen it just might be your turn. So far the following will be running again but that doesn t mean they don t need any competition: Treasurer Don Varenhorst Executive Officer Wayland Moore Outdoor Range Officer Bond Kinney Director Billy Stalcup Mike Reitz, uncertain Justin Weber Match Winner James Walden 100 st in handicap Laura Edwards High Lady The SJWF hosted another successful tournament in the month of July. This was our annual shoot with competitors from Kansas, Utah, Colorado, as well as New Mexico. The NM shooters traveled from as far as Silver City and Alamogordo. We received numerous compliments on the range, as well as the entire facility. We were fortunate to hold this match at the same time as the Tres Rios Bandidos Shoot Out at Three Rivers. This was a great opportunity to showcase the Club and that we did! The High overall was won by 18 year old Justin Weber of Albuquerque. He was the proud winner of several belt buckles including a 100 straight in doubles. Laura Edwards won the High Lady shooter for the whole match. We had a first for Farmington by one of our own shooters. James Walden was the first competitor to fire a 100 straight at handicap yardage at any club in the Farmington area. He was awarded a custom made gold with diamond inlaid 100 straight pin that dates back to James generously donated the pin back to the club and it will be a perpetual trophy with names inscribed to shooters that achieve that milestone. It is a very rare event. As always it was a group effort to pull this off and many thanks to everyone that helped! The summer league ended with the first place team of Dave Christensen, Richard Cheney, Jerry Olsen, Terry Burson and Richard Mason. We had a very successful banquet with lots of shooting before and afterward. The fall league starts September 11. Our last registered shoot of the year will be September 30th and October 1st. Winter hours after the time change will be Saturday only shooting with the start times to be announced later. For more info contact Bill Thompson at

6 Fourth Annual Shootout at Three Rivers, August 25-27, 2006 by Mike Reitz The covered wagons started arriving on Wednesday the 23rd and by Friday over 20 homes on wheels had filled the prairie south of the Club house. All in all 69 Cowboys and Cowgirls had registered for the Shootout. Seven States were represented, the farthest from South Dakota. Friday after the Pledge of Allegiance and a brief safety meeting the pot shoots and side matches began. An added attraction this year was Cowboy Trap and Cowboy Skeet. The short barreled and open chocked shotguns, handled by good shooters held their own on the clays fields. Two 25's were shot on the trap field, resulting in a shoot off from 20 yds. A former Skeet champion broke 21 on the Skeet field. Something else new this year, was a warm-up stage set up with many of the targets moving when engaged. Everyone thought that was a hoot. Saturday morning 67 cowboys and cowgirls assembled in the canyon for the first days main match. With new stage design and some new props, everyone came away looking forward to the next day s challenges. After lunch we had the shooter's prize drawing. Every shooter gets a prize, some valued at $120 this year. Saturday evening was our banquet at the Best Western. Again, Mayor Bill Stanley welcomed the shooters. His wife was with him and guests Dr. Bill Hall and his son also were in attendance. The side match and pot shoot awards were presented and the costume contest winners were announced. Sunday morning was clear and calm which made for ideal conditions for the final five stages. After lunch, we held a Man on Man and Woman on Woman shoot off. By the time this was finished, the Main Match scores were computed. The awards ceremony followed. Ken Griner, Griner Gunworks, donated a tricked out Norinco Model 97 shotgun which was raffled off. All proceeds going to the SASS Scholarship Foundation. We raised $750 from the raffle. (Ken Bomboy won the shotgun). Also, Ken Cline aka Largo Casey donated two pairs of targets. We auctioned them off, receiving $150 which was added to the Scholarship fund for a total of $900. We enlisted the Boy Scouts as brass pickers. They requested that all donations from the shooters go to buy.22's and BB guns for their badge qualifications. We collected $585 from the shooters for the Scouts. They want to come back next year. They also camped out at the range and had a good time. We paid $1050 to SJWF for the shooters fees. It was a great shoot and everyone had a great time. All the results are posted in the Club House and can be found at Tres Rios Bandidos, 2006 scores.
