2 LIVESTOCK SPECIAL AWARDS RANDY LAURITSEN MEMORIAL AWARD For Best Sheep Exhibit, donated by the Junior Livestock Advisory Committee. To be awarded to the best all around sheep exhibit, either market or breeding. This award will be designated by the judge. WEE CLOVER AWARD Plaque and cash award to first, ribbon and cash award to second and third, and ribbon to fourth place. Donor anonymous. Open to members who are either in their first year in 4-H, or their first year with livestock project, and showing and selling their first project animal. The project should have been in progress at least three months. Entrants must submit their record book including a record of their expenses and a record or diary of the progress of the project. This award is to be used in the further development and continuation of the project. Lambs, Swine and Cattle will be the only livestock considered. The following will be used in selecting the winner: Record Book... 25% Quality of Stock evidenced by condition of animal and placed in the show area... 25% Cleanliness of Stalls and/or Pens... 25% Attitude; Interview... 25% TOTAL % Judges to be two teen leaders and one adult leader chosen for interest in 4-H Livestock. ED DENMAN MEMORIAL MARKET SWINE AWARD To be donated by the Junior Livestock Advisory Committee to the Best Educational Display. All market swine exhibitors are eligible for this Award. No sign-up necessary. To be judged by designated/non-partisan Livestock Committee Members. The following points will be used in selecting the winners: Educational Display... 50% Record Book... 25% Interview... 25% TOTAL % BETTY CRIVELLI MEMORIAL SWINE AWARD For best Swine Exhibit - Breeding and/or Market by a 4-H or FFA Exhibitor. First awarded in 1984 by an anonymous donor, this year's award is donated by an anonymous donor. A permanent trophy board will be kept in the Fair Office with each year's winner inscribed on a metal plate. A smaller plaque will be given to each year's winner. Decisions will be made by the swine judge. THE CALIFORNIA POLL-ETTES, INC. The California Poll-ettes, Inc., Women s' Auxiliary of the California Polled Hereford Association will award one trophy to the Junior Exhibitor showing the most outstanding Polled Hereford Breeding Animal. Juniors competing must show a polled Hereford that is naturally smooth headed or having loose scurs, fitting the American Hereford Association guidelines. Breeding animals, either Bull or Heifer, must be registered with the American Polled Hereford Association. In a mixed breeding show, no polled Hereford placing below 4th place in the show is eligible for this award. The Official judge of the Junior Show will make selection, and the worthiness of the exhibit for such an award will be the sole decision of the Judge. Connie Mason Awards Secretary 7775 Old Sacramento Rd. Plymouth, CA (209) WALTER CRIVELLI AWARD For Outstanding Beef Exhibit. To be awarded to the best all around beef exhibit, either market or breeding. This award will be designated by the judge. BEST PUREBRED BARROW Angel Family Farm will sponsor an award for the Best purebred barrow shown at the Napa Town & Country Fair. This award is to be chosen by the judge on show day. The purpose of this award is to promote purebred barrows as show pigs. Any 4-H or FFA member entered in the fair will be eligible for this award.

3 Junior Livestock Auction Rules 1. Market Livestock es are limited to current members of Napa County 4-H, FFA, Grange Clubs, and Independent Juniors residing in Napa County as outlined by the local rules and definitions. 2. Exhibitors selling in other county or district fairs will not be permitted to sell at the Napa Town and Country Fair Auction. 3. All resale livestock will go to be processed through the local slaughter house or auction yard and will not be resold after the auction to private individuals. 4. There will be a 9% commission on all livestock sold through the auction, to be automatically deducted from the exhibitor s check. 5. All market livestock are automatically entered in the Junior Livestock Auction. You must declare at the time of entry your intent not to sell in the auction by printing I DO NOT INTEND TO PARTICIPATE IN THE JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION on your entry form. 6. Livestock declared not wishing to sell through the auction will not be ear tagged and are not eligible to compete for championship honors. 7. No exhibitor may withdraw from the auction after the entry deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS. 8. Exhibitors must be in uniform in order to sell their livestock. 9. Any discrepancies in weighs called at the scale must be noted and all re-weigh requests must be declared before leaving the scale area. No re-weights will be allowed after leaving the scales. 10. Market livestock exhibitors are limited to showing two large market animals, of which only one (1) may be Market Beef. 11. Exhibitors are responsible for the care and feeding of all livestock through Sunday evening, July 12th. It is advised exhibitors leave water receptacles in pens until Monday and make arrangements to pick them up Monday. 12. The fair management will have the right to lot lambs and hogs for sale purposes only. 13. Only groups Market Acceptable and Market Ready are eligible to sell. All not Market Acceptable and Market Not Ready animals will be required to be sent home on the day of show between the hours of 8:00 pm & 10:00 pm. NO EXCEPTIONS! 14. Exhibitors must turn in a buyer Thank You letter to receive your check. The letter should be in an addressed, unsealed, stamped envelope. EXHIBITORS, YOU MAY BEGIN TURNING IN THANK YOU LETTERS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE FAIR. Checks will not be mailed and must be picked up by the Exhibitor. Livestock Department Entry Limits Due to the lack of space required to accommodate animals at the annual fair, The Napa Town & Country Fair has established entry limitations. Entries will be limited to a first come first served basis with the limits established for each species as follows. Required by all members placing 1st in their respective showmanship classes. 2. If an exhibitor wins in more than one division, the next highest placing exhibitor will then qualify to participate. The first showmanship won by an exhibitor will be their qualifying space. 3. Exhibitors will be scored by each judge on a scale of 1 through 10 points. The exhibitor who acquires the most points in all divisions will be the winner. 4. In the event of a tie score between two or more exhibitors, the tie will be broken as follows: The highest and lowest scores will be removed followed by retabulation of the scores. The exhibitors with the highest score on the specie that qualified. 5. After the Awards Program, scores will be posted at the Livestock Office. 6. Livestock Department will supply all animals.

6 MARKET LIVESTOCK Any discrepancies in weights called at the scale must be noted and all re-weigh requests must be declared before leaving the scale area. No re-weighs will be allowed after leaving the scales. Division Market Beef 1 Market Beef, 1,000 to 1,500 pounds MARKET BEEF SCORECARD GRADE Market Ready: Market Beef projected to have sufficient fat deposition to meet the marbling specifications for USDA Prime, Choice, or Select+ quality grades. Not Market Ready: Market Beef lacking evidence of sufficient fat deposition to produce a desirable consumer product; projected to grade USDA Select or lower. Division Market Lamb 1 Hampshire, minimum 115 pounds 2 Suffolk, minimum115 pounds 3 Commercial Cross, minimum 115 pounds 4 Crossbred, minimum 115 pounds 5 All Other Breeds, minimum 115 pounds * (Please note: All market lambs must be sheared from head to hock and have no more than 1/4" fleece prior to weighing. All Lambs must be shorn prior to arrival on the fairgrounds). Market Lambs will pay out at auction to the top weight of 150 lbs. MARKET LAMB SCORECARD GRADE Market Ready: USDA Prime or Choice quality with 12 th rib back fat range , average or greater conformation and cut ability. Not Market Ready: Good or lower quality grade with 12 th rib back fat range <.16 or >.35; under finished lambs grading USDA good or lower, below-average conformation or cut ability. MARKET HOG SCORECARD GRADE Market Acceptable: U.S. No. 1 and No. 2 hogs of average or greater conformation that is acceptable in leanness, muscularity and production traits. Not Market Acceptable: Any hog of below average conformation including U.S. number 3, U.S. number 4 and utility grade hogs.

8 GROUP CLASSES Rules: 1. Groups shall consist of market animals previously shown in market classes, all shown by members of the same 4-H, FFA &/or Grange club (no more than two per individual). 2. Small Club = Clubs exhibiting 5 or less market animals in a species enter in the Small Club/Chapter classes. 3. Large Club = Clubs exhibiting 6 or more market animals in a species enter the Large Club/Chapter classes. 4. Clubs may only enter one class per species, Large or small, not both. All banners must be 4 wide x 6 tall ONLY. Banners that do not meet the size requirements will be disqualified and will not be displayed. 2. Banners must be constructed so they may be hung. 3. Be creative! Use your imagination to celebrate your fairs theme. 4. You may use any material other than paper to construct your banner; however the banner base must be cloth. 5. Judging will take place on Monday, July 6th. 6. All Banners must be picked up at awards ceremony on Sunday, July 12, The Napa Town & Country Fair will not be responsible for any banners left after the awards ceremony.
