Look at the list below! 4-H has a wealth of interesting projects that you can grow with - Biological Science, Civic Education, Communications and Arts, Community Volunteer Service, Consumer and Family Science, Technology & Engineering, and YES, Animals as well! Below you will find a more detailed list of all these things to choose from. Come and find a project that YOU can grow with. See the list of all of our 4-H Clubs on PAGE 2. LIVESTOCK SHOW IMPORTANT DATES Steer & Commercial Heifer tag in: September 23, 2017 Location: Jasper Livestock Arena, Time: 10:00 a.m. 12 noon Market Swine, Goat, Lamb tag in: December 9, 2017 Poultry orders: December 9, 2017 Location: Jasper Jr Livestock Arena, Time: 10:00 am - 12 Noon Rabbits: Turn in entries by February 13, 2018, at livestock meeting Ag Mechanic Projects: Turn in entries by February 13, 2018 at livestock meeting RULE CHANGE NOTE: Multiple animals can be tagged in Goats, Lams, Steers, Swine and Heifers It used to be maximum of 2 ***New Rule Books will be available on September 23rd at the first tag in

5 Page District 5 Recordbook Judging CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations are in order for Caleb Hicks who won 2nd Place honors for his Recordbook in the Rabbit category and Kyra Young who won 4th Place honors for her Recordbook in the Goat category The recordbook judging took place in Nacogdoches on July 6th. Texas 4-H Youth Development Program Opportunity Scholarships Texas 4-H Youth Development Program Opportunity Scholarships are ACADEMIC SCHOL- ARSHOPS awarded each year to applicants based on their academic record, 4-H experience, and financial need (for scholarships for which it is a required criterion). The Texas 4-H Youth Development Opportunity Scholarship Program is conducted in coordination with the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program, the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. All applications must be submitted through the applicant s county Extension office and meet all criteria to be considered Approximately 225 academicallycompetitive scholarships were awarded in the 2014 Texas 4-H Scholarship Program ranging in amounts from $1000 to $20,000 (amount established by donor). No scholarship recipient whose award is based on this application process will receive less than $1000 (may require receiving a combination of scholarships totaling $1000). The Texas 4-H Foun- dation seeks to ensure that each recipient receives the highest dollar amount of scholarship for which that recipient is eligible. For the majority of the total scholarships and scholarship funds available, participation in a livestock show is not a requirement for consideration for an Opportunity Scholarship. One Day 4-H is one day for all 4-H members, parents, leaders and volunteers to step out into their communities and county and say thank you by giving back for them more than 103 years of support to 4-H in Texas. This day of community service is whatever each 4-H members, club, or county 4-H Program wants it to be. It could be as simple as picking up trash and mowing the lawn for senior citizens to as elaborate as hosting a 5K Walk/Run and raising money for the cause.
