2 Goal Setting As 4-H activities begin to get under way for the new year, it is a good time to think about what your goals are for 4-H year. Setting goals is simply deciding what you want to learn and do. Having goals is like a road map. It is a tool that helps you plan how to get to where you want to go. In 4-H we talk about setting both Personal Goals and Project Goals. You may have a goal of meeting new friends, attending 4-H camp, learn more about the rule of thirds in photography, improving your showmanship skills, or improving your public speaking skills. Goals have three parts that can be measured or checked. Think about the three parts of a measurable goal: 1) the action: how you are going to do it; 2) the result: what you will do; 3) the timetable: when you plan to have it done. For example, for the goal, "I want to train my 4-H market heifer to lead before county fair," I want to train is the action portion of the goal. The project record form is a good tool to help you with your goals and document your project work, so at the end of the year if you choose to submit end of the year award forms, all of your documentation is one place. Project record forms are available on your county 4-H website and at the Extension Office. Volunteer Orientation 4-H works because of the adults that become volunteers. All 4-H volunteers are required to complete a one-time volunteer orientation. Volunteers may complete this requirement by attending an in-person session or online. Orientation needs to be completed before a volunteer s enrollment will be accepted. Online Orientation: Be sure to go all the way to the end of the module to where it asks your name, county, etc. If you do not, you will not be given credit for completion. Shooting Sports Leader Certification Training The spring shooting sports leader certification will open soon. The spring workshop is taking place March at Camp Jo-Ota in Clarence, MO. Registration opens within 4HOnline on February 1. Workshops usually fill up before the deadline so do not delay! For more information about the workshop will be available in 4-H Online. Shooting Sports: Save the Dates March 22-24: Spring Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop April 12-14: Hunting & Outdoor Skills Leader Certification Workshop May 3-5: Western Heritage Leader Workshop August 10: Missouri State Fair Shooting Sports Day August 17: State Skeet Shoot August 24: State Trap Shoot August 24-25: State Archery 300 Sept 21-22: State Shoot Oct 4-6: Fall Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop For more information on all of these opportunities: 2

3 Missouri 4-H Foundation Scholarships College is expensive but 4-H can help! 4-H participation and involvement leads young people to explore various careers and educational options. The Missouri 4-H Foundation offers college scholarships that help 4-H members pursue their educational dreams. In 2019 thanks to generous donor support, the Missouri 4-H Foundation will offer over 60 college scholarships ($500 - $2,500/scholarship). 4-H ers who are current high school seniors and former 4-Hers who are college students are eligible to apply. The scholarship guidelines and application is available on the Missouri 4-H Foundation website at Applications are due to the extension office by Friday, February 22. **Please note that the scholarship application has been updated this year, do not use an older version of the scholarship application form; the current form will have Revised Dec 2018 on the bottom of the application form. Check out the list of scholarships on the 4-H scholarship website and apply! The scholarship application format is almost identical to the 4-H Missouri Recognition Form (MRF) format. If you complete the MRF form, you ve completed most of the narrative for the scholarship application, too. Missouri Association of Fairs & Festivals Scholarship Staats Awards and the Missouri Association of Fairs & Festivals (MAFF) Past Presidents Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce 2018 applications are available for the $1,000 scholarship. The MAFF Past Presidents Club administers the scholarship, funded by Staats Awards. Staats Awards has been servicing the fair industry for over 110 years and wishes to be a part of preserving the fair industry for future generations. Staats has committed an annual gift of $1,000 to assist the recipient of this scholarship to continue their education at the two- or four-year college level. Applications must be postmarked before February 21, FCS Financial Scholarships FCS Financial believes in the future of our next generation. For that reason, the Board of Directors began the FCS Financial Scholarship Program in 2004 to support higher education for children or grandchildren of FCSF customers. Each year up to 35 scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each are provided to eligible Missouri high school seniors. Since its inception, more than a half a million dollars has been awarded through the scholarship program. The application requires information on school activities, volunteer, and work history. Scholarship applications are due March 1. Missouri Pork Expo The Missouri Pork Expo and In the Show Ring are rapidly approaching. 6 4-H Feeding Missouri The goal of 4-H Feeding Missouri is to raise one million meals the month of February in a first-of-its-kind statewide food drive, and every 4-H club in the state can contribute to its success! From February 1-28, 4- Hers across Missouri will engage in a friendly service competition to see which clubs can contribute the greatest amount of food, donations and volunteer hours. They ll have an opportunity to organize and/or participate in food drives, fundraising, volunteerism and educational outreach to learn about hunger and food insecurity. Stay tuned for more information! In the meantime, please consider including educational opportunities about hunger and food insecurity during club meetings and other events leading up to the February drive. Included on the 4-H Feeding Missouri webpage is a resource section that features a 4-H: Empowering Youth to End Hunger in Their Communities Toolkit with ready-made activities for youth to learn about this topic. You can draw from this resource to help youth learn about hunger and food insecurity. Website: 4-H Move Across Missouri (MOVE) MOVE in 2019! 4-H MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youth to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more.
