It is our hope that, through 4-H, you will find your passion and be inspired to do, learn, and grow!! 4-H youth are a living, breathing, culture-changing revolution for doing the right thing, breaking through obstacles and pushing our country forward by making a measurable difference right where they live. Whether you re a 4-H educator, volunteer or member, we want you to share how 4-H has inspired you. Begin by promoting 4-H at your school and throughout Terrebonne Parish. Each individual school will plan activities based on what is allowed by their administration. Parish Wide Activities for 4-H Week: 4-H Displays School clubs work on 4-H Displays to place in the front of school to promote 4-H Week. Pictures of displays should be ed to the 4-H office by November 2, The winning club will receive an ice cream or cookie cake party. All clubs that participate will receive a certificate. Social Media Photo Challenge Let s flood Social Media with 4-H November 4-10, Each day, we want you to share with us how 4-H has inspired you! We encourage all to participate- parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc. Tag us on our Facebook page: Terrebonne 4-H or Instagram : terrebonne4h. 4-H 30 Days of Doing Challenge This year, we are encouraging each 4-H member and family to complete the 30 Days of Doing Challenge. We have a calendar of activities to follow. You can find the calendar on our Facebook page, get a copy from your school leader, Mrs. Cherie at croger@agcenter.lsu.edu, or visit the 4-H office for a copy. 4-H members who complete 20 activities will be put into a drawing for a 4-H prize bundle. To be entered into the drawing, you must submit pictures of you completing each of the 20 activities. You should also have a reflection paragraph 6-10 sentences, reflecting on your experiences. The pictures and paragraph are to be submitted to Mrs. Cherie at the 4-H Office by December 6, You can drop your entry off at the 4-H office or Mrs. There is no specific format for your entry, just remember to keep it neat. All members who submit entries will receive a certificate. 4-H Night at Raising Canes Join us on November 6, 2018 for 4-H Night at Raising Canes. Visit our Houma locations and mention Terrebonne 4-H when ordering and a percentage will be given back to 4-H! Make sure to wear your 4-H green to show support your 4-H support!!
2 Page 2 4-H Poultry and Egg Cookery Saturday, November 10, 2018 Caldwell Middle School 445 LA-311 Schriever Registration: In Cafeteria 9:00 9:30 a.m. Judging: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Pet Show 9:30-11:30 a.m. Awards: 11:30 a.m. Pet Show Registration Backyard area We will have signs to follow. 9:00-9:30 a.m. Show and Awards 9:30-11:30 a.m. Spirit Contest Registration (Near Pet Show Registration) 9:00 9:30 a.m. Judging: 9:35 a.m. near Pet Show Awards: 11:30 a.m. All dishes must be chilled prior to arrival, and arrive at registration COLD. Your dish will be disqualified if it is not completely cold at the time of inspection. NO EXCEPTIONS! Microwaves will be available for judges to heat samples before tasting dishes. *A sample of 4-6 servings (in one dish) is requested for judging. Place name and school name under the dish/container. All samples should be placed in a covered container. Do not bring any dishes uncovered. Dishes will remain covered until judging. You must provide a copy of the recipe include the name of the recipe (recipe should have the 4-H ers name and school name on the back). The recipe should include the name of the dish, how much of the commodity it contains and clear preparation instructions. Previous year grand champion dishes may not receive Grand Champion awards. 4-Her s will not be allowed to win grand champion in more than one category. All dishes receive ribbon awards. Grand Champion dishes selected in each category will receive awards. 1 point will be given to each member for entering the cookery regardless of the number of dishes entered. 4-H members will also be given a point for participating in the workshops. Cloverbuds receive participation ribbons. Poultry Cookery franks, turkey sausage or Guidelines smoked turkey. *Other Poultry & Wild Game This includes duck, quail, pheasant, pigeon, goose, emu, dove, and Three Categories other game birds. 3 4-H Pet Show Page 3 Saturday, November 10, 2018 Caldwell Middle School Registration Time: 9:00 a.m. 9:30 a.m. Show Time: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ENTRY FEES - We will not have entry fees but ask that if you can, please donate to our Give Cancer the Boot cause. We will collect money throughout the year to donate to different cancer organizations. SHOW RULES: 1. Each 4-H er may bring (2) pets 2. You may enter your pets in as many classes as you like in its division 3. One pet per class 4. NO LARGE ANIMALS (horse, calf, goat, sheep & etc.) 5. NO SNAKES 6. Parents can bring lawn chairs * ALL PETS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH, IN CAGES OR OTHERWISE UNDER CONTROL. No pens, cages, etc. will be provided. Bring your own. Pets are NOT ALLOWED in the school building. You will not be allowed to participate in the pet show if your pet is seen in the building. Classes: Cats Best groomed Best Dressed Dogs Best Pet Trick Best Groomed Any Other Pet Most Colorful Most Unusual I Wish Pet This category is for those 4-H members who would love to have their own pet but for some reason, they can t. You are allowed to enter one stuffed animal or toy animal. If you enter a real pet, you cannot enter this class. Most Unusual We will select an overall best of show for each class and an Overall Best of Show of the entire show. 4-H Week Spirit Contest November 10, 2018 Held in conjunction with the Poultry and Egg Cookery and Pet Show Caldwell Middle School Registration for Spirit Contest will be near the Pet Show Registration from 9:00 am-9:30 am. We want to see who can show the most 4-H and American Spirit! Since this will be the last day of 4-H week and Veterans day, we want you to show your support and spirit for both 4-H and our Veterans. In order to compete in the contest, register the day of the cookery/pet show in the cafeteria, then head to the Pet Show area for judging at about 9:35.a.m. No late entries. Costumes and props are allowed, but be tasteful and appropriate. Winner will receive a $25 voucher to the 4-H Mall! If you have a disability which requires special assistance for your participation in any of our activities, please contact the 4-H office at two weeks prior to the event.

It is important that we have your name, address and address so you can receive information on upcoming events. There will be a livestock meeting on October 15, 2018 for all Livestock Exhibitors and parents. Again, contact Mr. Reed for additional information. Interested in raising chickens for 4-H? Join the 4-H Broiler Project! Raising young meat-type chickens (broilers) is one of the most interesting and funfilled activities a 4-H er can experience. Even though the 4-H Broiler Project is one of the most competitive projects among parish and state poultry contests, more and more Terrebonne Parish youth are discovering how Terrebonne 4-H Junior Leader Sweet Potato/Rice Sale The 4-H Junior Leader Club will be having a sweet potato/rice sale through October 19th. These #1 select sweet potatoes, grown in Iota, Louisiana, have been kiln-cured to meet the rigorous standards of today s demanding agricultural market. Creole Rose is 100 percent natural aromatic long grain rice. Orders must be turned in by October 19th. Potatoes and rice orders will be available for pick-up on October 30, 2018 at the 4-H office. Sweet Potatoes 25 lb. Bakers $ lb. Bakers $28.00 Rice 2 lb. bag $ lb. bag $ lb. bag $ lb. bag $ lb. bag $ H Broiler Project easy it is while learning the meaning of responsibility the backbone of the 4-H program. All potatoes are packaged in a sack (with dirt on potatoes). Bakers are 4-8 oz. potatoes. The project lasts for only 42 days. The chicks will arrive in January with the birds being ready for contests and market in February. The chicks are brought to Houma at one day of age. Once you have the chicks, all that is needed is space, feed, water, and care. Other expenses include feed, housing, and other equipment (heating and lighting). Broiler project order forms will be distributed at the October club meetings. The deadline to order the baby chicks is : November 2, Information about the Broiler Project and workshop dates will be given to those 4-H members who order 4-H chicks. Shooting Sports Shooting Sports Terrebonne Parish 4-H offers Shooting Sports to 4th 12th grade 4-H members. You can participate in three disciplines archery, rifle, and shotgun. This 4-H project requires parents to be present with their child at all shooting sports events and activities. There will be a mandatory meeting for all interested new members on October 29, 2018 at the Houma Municipal Auditorium (880 Verrett Street) at 6:00 p.m. If your child wants to participate in this project, a parent MUST be at the meeting. We will go over all requirements and information. After this meeting, you can then decide if you would like to complete the enrollment process. Categories: Shrimp Main Dish, Shrimp Appetizer or Salad, Crab, Oyster, Fish and Other Seafood, Crawfish Guidelines: 1. Any 4-H member may participate. Participants may enter only one (1) seafood dish in each category. 2. Prepare a food dish using at least 1 cup of LOUISIANA seafood as an ingredient. The seafood must be fresh, frozen, pasteurized or dried. Canned seafood will not be acceptable. - Surimi, an artificial crab made from fish, cannot be used. There can be no raw seafood in the final dish Her s are encouraged to prepare healthy seafood dishes. Avoid excessive amounts of fat and sodium. Avoid frying foods. Dishes will be judged on taste and nutritional content/value Her s will not be allowed to win grand champion in more than one category. 5. Winners in Shrimp Main Dish, Crab, Oyster, Fish and Other Seafood, and Crawfish will represent Terrebonne in the area cookery contest. Shrimp Appetizer/Salad Grand Champion will not participate in the area cookery unless the Shrimp Main Dish winner cannot attend. Rice Cookery Contest Categories: Rice Main Dish, Rice Side Dish, Rice Dessert Guidelines: 1. Any 4-H member may participate. Participants may enter only one (1) rice dish in each category. 2. Contestants must bring a prepared rice dish, containing at least 1 cup of cooked rice. *wild rice is not a cultivated rice in Louisiana and does not meet the requirement of 1 cup rice for this contest. Dishes containing rice products such as rice cereal, rice flour, etc. must also contain cooked rice. Rice Crispy cereal cannot be used as rice for this cookery Her s will not be allowed to win grand champion in more than one category. 4. Winners in each category will represent Terrebonne Parish in the area cookery contest.
