DavisJer@missouri.edu 801 East 12th Lamar Mo Phone Fax H Families, Please join Barton County 4-H May, 9 at 3:30 pm on the Historic Lamar Constitution Square for a special dedication of the Tulip Poplar tree grated form the last standing Revolutionary Era Liberty Tree The original Liberty Tree was a famous elm tree that stood near Boston Common during the Revolutionary era. In 1765, the Sons of Liberty, a group of American colonists, staged the first act of defiance against British rule under the tree. This spawned the resistance that eventually led to the American Revolutionary War. During the war, several other towns designated their own Liberty Trees as support for the resistance spread throughout the colonies. These trees became symbols of American independence. The last original Liberty Tree, a Tulip Poplar, stood on the grounds of St. John s College in Maryland until 1999 when it died during Hurricane Floyd. Prior to its death, 14 seedlings were successfully germinated from the tree through a project spearheaded by the nonprofit conservation organization American Forests. These seedlings were planted throughout the original 13 colonies. There will be media coverage and special ribbon cutting Barton County Achievement Day will be June 5, start planning your demonstrations, public speaking, and work on judging skills. 2 Page 2 4-H Club Information Barton County 4-H Council will meet July 5,2016,7:00pm at the Wolf Center. The 4HOnline system new enrollments or reenrollment is up and running. Please remember to use Goggle or foxfire as your brower when you log on. MOVE Across Missouri Just a reminder the final competition of MOVE Across Missouri will begin at the end of the month in a no cost 4HOnline event with the data entry for the 15 weeks of logged activity that started February 1. Sign up There is no pre-registration required this year. Here's what youth and adults need to do to participate: Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their profile. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects. Log your activity Using a paper tracking system found at the bottom of this page, youth and their families can log the number of minutes they accumulate throughout the year and during the competitive component of the MOVE program (scroll to the bottom of the website page and click My Move Activity Log ). Record keeping through the paper tracking system is important because the competition period will be from February 1 to April Hers and adults can register for the competitive event as individuals and/or as part of a team. An individual MOVEr may also be a part of a team. A team can consist of a family or members of a 4-H club or group. Youth and families will submit their total number of minutes logged throughout the competitive period at the end in 4HOnline ( ). The final reporting take place inside of a no cost event registration that will only be open at the end of the competition period from April 30 and May 14. MOVEr s will include total minutes and types of activities they have logged. MOVE awards will be provided. Prizes and more... Participants who sign up for MOVE before April 30 will receive a MOVE promotion item and certificate. During our competition period February 1 through April 30, individuals and teams who log the most minutes in each county and the state will receive awards. County individual and team awards are valued at $10 and $25, respectively. State individual and team awards are valued at $50 and $250, respectively. Get ready to MOVE! My Move Activity Log

3 Page 3 Club Reporters One of your duties as a reporter is to take notes at each meeting and prepare a report for the county 4-H office. Please send your club news to the 4-H office by the 25th of each month so that it may be published in the 4-H Clover Grower You can drop your report off at the extension office; send by mail to: Barton County 4-H 801 East 12th, Lamar, Mo or davisjer@missouri.edu The City Clovers 4-H club met on April 17, There were 8 members present and 4 parents. Trey Shaw and Kyleigh Ball led us in our pledges. Achievement Day will be held June 30. Our club was selected for the BOAC grant to help fund the square park bench project. Members reported on the park bench project around the square. Members reported on the Clover Kid Camp hosted by Teen Leaders. Trey Shaw gave a demonstration on planting seeds. Our next meeting will be May 15 at 1:00. Application instructions for Show Me 4-H Wares at the Missouri State Fair, August We are excited to move the youth sales booth to the State Fair 4-H Building this summer, and to expand dates exhibitors can sell! Youth can apply as exhibitors in 4-HOnline starting May 1. Selection of exhibitors will begin July 1, but youth can still apply after July 1, or until booth spaces fill up.
