1 August 18-27, Ranch Rodeo Entry Form Rules & Regulations Wednesday, August 23, Rodeo at 7:00 pm WW Grandstand Arena, grounds $600 Entry Fee Entry Deadline is August 15th Sponsored by Jenner Equipment
2 Ranch Rodeo All teams must enter all 5 compulsory events in order to be eligible for prizes. Events are Stray Gathering, Range Doctorin, Steer Loadin;, Pony Express Race, and Ranch Bronc Ride. Teams with the fastest accumulated time over the 5 events will be the Champion Ranch Rodeo Team. The Champion CSF Ranch Rodeo Team will have the opportunity to participate in the Finals at the 2018 Black Hills Stock Show Ranch Rodeo, providing that two out of the four adult members are the same and their entry is in by the BHSS Deadline, accompanied by the entry fee. Entries will be limited to 12 teams if there are 24 or less teams to enter. If there are 25 or more teams we will have a preliminary round which will start at 12:00 pm to qualify for the Finals at 7 pm. Entry Deadline will be on August 15th. Draw for the teams will be at 5:00 pm on the 15th. (Teams will be notified the following day.) Entries must be accompanied by entry fee to be considered in the draw. **Preliminary round held inside the James Kjerstad Event Center. Prize monies will be available immediately following the Ranch Rodeo in the arena or the next day at the CSF Office. ONLY the team captain will be allowed to pick up the winnings and must show a valid ID. $1,000 PURSE PAID in each individual event PURSE PAID 1st: $600 and 2nd: $400. If a prelims is run payouts will be based on the # of teams entered. OVERALL Payouts: 1st: $2,500 2nd: $1,500 3rd: $1,000 GATE ADMISSION: Adult Tickets - $12.00 Kids (7-12) - $5 Kids 6 & Under are Free **Everyone pays except team members. Ranch Rodeo: $600 Entry Fee. Wednesday, August 23, at 7:00 pm in the WW Grandstand Arena, Central States. 4:30-5:15 pm - Check in for the Finals at the Rodeo Secretary Office at the McDonalds Stage. 5:15-5:30 pm - Team Meeting at the McDonalds Stage. TEAM MEMBERS MUST BE PRESENT. 5:30 pm - Calcutta at the Mc Donald s Stage - TEAMS MUST BE PRESENT. Four Monies to be paid. Stalls are available when you arrive, $25/night pre bedded. 3 Ranch Rodeo Entry $600 - Due by August 15, Preliminaries - 12:00 pm - inside the Event Center Finals - 7:00 pm - Grandstands Arena Check in for finals - 4:30-5:15 pm - McDonald s Stage Team Meeting - 5:15-5:30 pm at the McDonald s Stage Calcutta - 5:30 pm - ALL TEAM MEMBERS MUST BE PRESENT! Ranch Rodeo Preliminary Rules The Preliminary Round will consist of all 4 team members. Each team will have 3 head of livestock turned out in the arena. Each team MUST complete all 3 tasks within a 5 minute time limit. The 3 tasks will consist of: Steer Loadin, Range Doctorin, and Stray Gatherin. There is no order to which the tasks need to be completed just as long as all 3 evets are completed within the 5 minute time limit. Possible loop limits may be enforced, will be determined and discussed at the Contestants Meeting. Flagger will start time once any member has crossed the start line. Time will stop once Flagger indicates all 3 events are complete. Preliminary Events: Steer Loadin The trailer will be parked at the opposite end. Team must sort and load steer into the trailer, no horses allowed inside the trailer. The gate to the trailer must be shut and latched for a qualified time, if it is not latched a no time will be given. Cattle can be roped or pushed into the trailer. (NO EXCESSIVE ABUSE TO CATTLE OR TEAM WILL BE DISQUALIFIED) Range Doctorin Team must head & heel cow, then lay it on either rib cage, doctor cow with a paint stick, and release ropes. Ropes MUST BE removed for a qualified time. Medicine will be given with a paint stick and must be painted onto the neck of the animal. Failure to complete any of these tasks results in a no time. Stray Gatherin MUST head & heel a steer. Once you have headed and heeled your steer you have to tie the steer with any 3 legs. After time has been called the steer has to stay tied for 6 seconds. If the steer becomes untied in the 6 seconds the team will be given a no time. There is a 5 Minute Time Limit to complete ALL 3 tasks. If any one task is not completed the team will receive a NO TIME (a NO Time will result in an additional 2 minute penalty). Top ten (10) teams with the fastest accumulated time in the three events will advance to the finals. In case of a tie, there will be an event that will be determined by the tied teams to compete for finals position. Preliminary round payouts will be based on the number of teams entered.
4 Ranch Rodeo Finals Rules Blake s Trailer Relay This event features all 4 team members: two trailers will be parked opposite each other in the arena. There will b e a chalk lime box behind each trailer. Each team will have 4 horses saddled inside the trailer. The four team members will have one hand on each door handle of the pickup. A horn will sound to start time. Each team must unload horses, one at a time, make one lap around the outside of the two trailers clockwise/counter clockwise depending on arena set up, with a baton. When the first rider completes a lap, he will hand off the baton to the next rider inside the chalk box behind the trailer. If baton is handed off outside of the box it will be a 20 second time penalty added to the overall final time, (time penalty applies to each hand off not completed inside the chalk box) This continues until each team member has completed a lap and the horses are loaded and the trailer door is closed and latched. The last team member making the lap must be in the driver s seat of the pickup with the door closed and the trailer door latched to stop time. If the baton is dropped during the race, it must be picked up and handed back to the person who dropped it and they must continue the race from the point the baton was dropped. NO INTENTIONAL INTERFERENCE. 2 Minute Time Limit. Rope Mug Tying This event features 4 team members. Numbered cattle will be held at one end of the arena behind a chalk line. Team will enter arena and draw cattle. Time starts when team crosses chalk line. Teams will sort out drawn number animal, bring it across the chalk line, DRAWN, SORTED ANIMAL MUST CROSS THE CHALK LINE FIRST, rope it (3 legal catches: slick horns, half head or neck only). After roping the steer, team members must mug steer down (needs to be laid on either rib cage) and tie any three legs. Time stops when all catch ropes are off the steer. Must stay tied for 6 seconds. Tie time starts when rope is off the steer. Roper can not trip bust steer or drag steer. NO EXCESSIVE ABUSE TO CATTLE OR TEAM WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. 2 Minute Time Limit. Pony Express Race This event features all 4 team members. Two teams will at once. Two members will start on horseback and two members will start on foot at the opposite end of the arena. Time will start when the first horse and rider cross the start/finish line. The first horseback rider will begin behind the designated start/finish line, race past the pole at the opposite end of the arena. When the horseback rider passes the pole, an exchange will take place between the rider and the team member on foot. When the exchange is complete the new rider will race back to the start/finish line. Then the second horse and rider will repeat the process with the final team member on the ground. Time will stop when the second exchange is complete and that rider crosses the start/finish line. All exchanges must take place beyond the pole. If a horse escapes or rider falls, the team must catch the horse, remount and continue from the spot of the foul, with the same rider slated for that leg of the race. 2 Minute Time Limit. Wild Cow Milking & Calf Tying This event will consist of all 4 team members. ALL members must be horseback. Two teams will run at once cows will be designated for each team prior to the start of the run. Teams must start behind the chalk line, once you cross the line time will start. A cow & calf will be released into the arena at the opposite end. Teams MUST head and heel the cow before milking and the cow MUST be standing, if at any time the cow lays down you must stand her up to continue milking. After you have milked the cow you must have the help rope off and one member with the milk at the judge. You only need enough milk in the bottle to spill at least one drop out. Then you MUST rope the calf (catch as catch can) and tie down with any 3 legs, calf must remain tied for 6 seconds. NO HARD AND FAST TIE ON. 2 Minute Time Limit. Crown Royal Ranch Bronc Ride Each team must have 1 Bronc Rider. Teams must provide own saddle and reins, (halters will be provided), CHECK- ING THE HALTER IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE RIDER. Must be stock saddles, (NO rodeo bronc saddles). Rider must ride for 8 seconds. The judges score on the 8 second ride. That score will be doubled and the total will be subtracted from your composite score. (80 point ride + 80 = 160 / 2.67 mins will be subtracted from your composite score came in with a 4.82 composite, subtract the 2.67 = 2.15 is your final score.)
