1 May 2017 From the Office Wow! Here we are, already in May! Down to the wire to get paperwork done for this year, so if you haven t turned everything in yet, make sure you do so ASAP. There are many opportunities coming up in the next couple of months for members to be involved. We have Swine Camp, Dog Camp, Lamb Camp, 4-H Camps, and much more! Be sure to take advantage of any that interest you. If there is a program you or your members would like to see or be a part of, please let me know. Register early. Registrations are inside this issue. It should be a great summer! Be sure to watch your for announcements, deadlines and updates! Thank you all for your continuing support and participation. Secondly, if you would like to sponsor 4-H fair awards, or if you know of an individual or business that might like to become a sponsor, please call the Extension Office. Sponsors are needed in all 4-H project areas: FCS, Small Animal, Livestock, and Horse. Sponsors are vital to our program and we sincerely appreciate each and every one of you! 2 If you missed the carnival you missed some amazing booths. 67 youth participated in the horse carnival. Good job Gooding county for having two booths. One was Horse quiz knowledge and he other, a mini golf with plant ID These Activity booths are created and run by our 4H members and volunteers. I Weighed My Steer, Now What? Be sure to attend the Beef Education day coming up. Learn about some things needed to have that great quality steer at fair. How is your project going? Here are some questions you can ask yourself: What does your grain weigh? Are you feeding 2% of body weight in grain a day? Is the actual A.D.G. below or above the estimated A.D.G.? To apply for camp counselor, you must attend training on Saturday, May 6 th at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. You may volunteer at other 4-H events upon completion of training. Camp Counselor Training Saturday, May 6, :45 AM 2:30 PM Lincoln County Community Center This memo is a result of the interest form you completed for 2017 Camps in District III. Plan on attending the training. You must attend this training to apply to be a camp counselor. Applications and interview times will be handed out at this training. You will receive help and tips on completing an application and interview procedures. Idaho 4-H Healthy Living Teen Advocates will help you prepare lunch which is sponsored by the District III Volunteer Association. You will receive a Camp Counselor Notebook. 5 WILDLIFE DAY CAMP APPROACHING DATES MAY 4 Swine Weigh-in 11 January Dairy Heifer weigh in JUNE 3 Wildlife Day Camp 12 Goat Camp-Jerome 14 Swine Camp 15 Sheep Lincoln County Wet & Wild Camp 24 Magic Valley Dairy Heifer Program Education day (Filer) 29 Dairy Heifer Bangs check 4-H Wildlife Camp will be held at the Hayspur Fish Hatchery (Highway 20 near Picabo) on June 3. Discover prey/predator relationships, archery, and hands on activities before afternoon fishing. Guided tours of the fish hatchery will be given throughout the day. The program is geared for youth ages 8-13, but youth 5-7 may attend if accompanied by an adult. Youth do not need to be a 4-H member to attend. Volunteers are needed to help kids navigate through the day. Regular registration is $20.00 and includes lunch, supplies, and cinch bag. The registration deadline is May 10. For more information, call the Blaine County Extension Office at (208) or kkimball@uidaho.edu. 4-H Summer Camps Wet & Wild Camp Get ready to make a SPLASH at Wet & Wild Camp! Campers will discover that water is one of the most essential components of life by exploring ice, clouds, the water cycle, creeks and streams. Wet&Wild Camp will be held June All youth ages 8-13 are invited throughout the state and they DO NOT have to be in 4-H. Early Bird Registration ends May 12th. For more information call the Twin Falls County Extension Office at (208) or ttverdy@uidaho.edu All Things Wild CAMP Bring the whole family! We think 4-H shooting sports is a family thing. We encourage you and your family to clear your calendars and come to camp to see what the fun is all about! All Things Wild Camp is July and will be held at the 4-H Camp north of Ketchum.
