6 ~ Year in Review ~ Well we Partied til the Pigs Came Home for sure. The Party included a paid concert by Home Free, fabulous music from Branch and Dean, the Conway Seavey Band, Hobo Jim, Blackwater Railroad and so many more. I think our little fair brings in some amazing talent. Wait until you see what we have lined up for 2017! In 2016 over 17,900 came to the fairgrounds to take a part in one of over 20 different events held this year. Based on census, that means that over 30% of the lower Kenai Peninsula attended an event at the fairgrounds. This year was a tuff year, sponsorships and donations were down, but our gate was up. Largely due to our Saturday night concert. Each year we look at ways to keep the costs down and still bring fairgoers what they are asking for. Charging a small admission for our concerts, we feel, is a great way to give fairgoers a chance to see first class entertainment in person. In addition, we partnered with Power Plant Productions and had a fight in the rodeo arena on Friday night. If you have ideas for us, please send us a message via facebook or us at keniapeninsulafair@gmail.com, we do all of this for you! Our partnership with Salmonfest continues to flourish as they grow, so does the fair. This year over 50 volunteers came and invested time and energy, not just in setting up for the festival, but in making some much needed improvements and repairs to the facility. We put in a new fence to help separate the main lawn from the livestock area. This was both a safety and a security upgrade. In addition the fair kept all of the proceeds from camping and parking for the festival, this was a boost to our financial situation. We are very happy to have Salmonfest as a part of our fair family. In 2017 we are looking at doing some restructuring; the fair has gotten to big for one person to manage. We will be bringing in the Foraker Group to help create this new structure, so that we can continue to bring you a fair that you are proud of.

8 Meet the Candidates: My name is Cindy Schnabl, I am interested in running for a seat on your board. My family and I have spent many years participating in 4-H, rodeo, barrel racing, FFA and horse camp put on by the Trailblazers. The fairgrounds is truly a huge part of my kids childhood memories. 4-H needs to make a huge comeback, I would hate to have a fair with no animals. This could be achieved with a little work on our part with some workshops and work days for the 4-Hers and a little added fun. The flowers, lawn and general upkeep of the grounds are always a concern for me as I like to see our fairgrounds shine with a well kept sense of pride. I can help with projects and am not afraid of hard work. However I cannot and will not do the projects by myself. My name is Jim Stearns, I moved to Homer with my wife and two young girls in Prior to moving to Homer I organized many successful music festivals and ran a facility that hosted numerous festivals and events year round. I was involved in numerous nonprofit organizations that encompassed virtually every capacity; founder, director, board member, volunteer. I joined the Kenai Peninsula Fair board in 2012 to help lend my vast experience in entertainment and event planning to what I felt was one of the peninsulas best venues for entertainment.i also became a coach and board member for the Homer Little League, board member and ultimately President of Kachemak Bay Conservation Society and director of the very successful Share the Spirit among many other things in and around the southern peninsula. Since joining the fair board I have taken over production Salmonfest and helped raise the level of entertainment brought to the fair, been instrumental in bringing about numerous beautification projects and helped find new and creative ways to increase revenues. I very much want to continue helping the Kenai Peninsula Fair grow and see the facilities utilized year round My name is Kathleen Kitson. I am an active mom of seven children who rodeo and have in the past done 4-H. I am the National Director of the Alaska High School Rodeo. I help to keep a good working relationship between the rodeo community and the fair board. I believe that it is essential to have people from many different organizations and backgrounds on the board in order to allow us to look at every angle and perspective. The ability to have such diverse background will enable us as a fair board to be as objective and fair as possible. I have Page 8
9 Meet the Candidates continued been on the fair board for several years now and watched as we have steadily grown. I intend to run for the fairboard again as my position is up for election. I am looking forward to helping the fair grow more every year. My name is Mike Etzwiler and this is my intent to run for one of the three Fair Board seats that are up for election. I am an 18 year resident of Homer, Alaska and an indoor vendor at the Kenai Peninsula Fair for the last five years running. My wife, Kesha Etzwiler, is the Scentsy vendor and I am her loyal helper both in business and life. Being a part of the Fair the last five years we have gotten to know the people behind the scenes, other vendors, and those responsible for making the Fair as great as it is. It would be an honor to become a member of the team that works so hard to bring this event (and all of the other events throughout the year) together. With 14+ years managing a retail/contracting business in Homer, working with my wife on her personal Scentsy business, as well as working with youth on the peninsula through officiating basketball and now cub scouts in Homer, I feel I have a great deal to bring to the Fair Board. I thank you for your consideration and appreciate all that you, the Fair Board, do and all the Fair itself does for the Kenai Peninsula. Page 9
