7 Teen Club Service Projects The Teen Club service project for November was military mail. They wrote over 200 letters which will be sent to those service men and women who cannot be home for the holidays. The December service project will be Toys for Tots. New toys are being collected to be given to the Toys for Tots program. Each member is asked to bring at least one new toy to the teen club meeting on Thursday, December 11 th at 7 p.m. in the Allendale Library. Other clubs are welcome to join the drive by dropping of toys that evening or by contacting one of the teen club members and giving them the toys before the meeting. Teen Club Elects Officers At the October meeting of the Teen Club they elected new officers. Congratulations to Jessica Fuller and Emily Hemstreet who will be co-presidents this year. Secretary is Andrea Steenwyk and Treasurer is Amber Haveman. The club meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Allendale Library. New members are always welcome. For more information about the club call one of the officers or their advisor Erin McCarthy. Erin can be reached at The Teen Club does community service projects and has club activities for fun and education. They also sponsor an annual Lock-In, Supershowmanship clinic and demonstration contests at the fairs. The club is run by the teens and helps to support the county 4-H program by helping out at numerous 4-H events. Leadermete Every other year the Central Region of Michigan 4-H puts on a one day educational event for 4-H leaders and teens. This winter it will be held February 7 th in Mt. Pleasant at the Comfort Inn & Suites hotel. This one day event costs $35 and includes lunch. It qualifies as a Kettunen workshop for 4-H leaders here in Ottawa County. This means a leader can attend for free if they do not attend a Kettunen workshop or only attend one workshop this year. Teen Leaders have a $10 co-pay unless they are already attended Kettunen Center this year. The year is the program year so it is September 08 to June 09. A complete Leadermete registration packet will be sent to all 4-H leaders. Look for it in your mail. Key note speaker will be Elizabeth Wells speaking on technology and 4-H Moving at the Speed of Youth. Bountiful Baskets A huge thank you to the many clubs and committees that contributed baskets for the Ottawa County 4-H Council Leader s and Awards banquet. Through the generosity of many, the council raised $750 to assist with programming needs. The baskets were beautiful and quite varied. Bidding was hot and many people had to leave without getting the basket they wanted. Additional thanks to Donna s Catering, Terrie Graftema, Geri Elzinga, Marilyn Van Oss, Michele Kaptein and Anne Hawley as well as the Teen Club! The banquet would not have been possible without you! Horse Committee News Congratulations to those leaders who were elected to two year terms on the Ottawa County 4-H Horse Committee. Elected to terms through 2010 are: Cindy Beukema, Lynn Croel, and Jen MacDonald. Appointed to the committee for one year terms are: Jean McCarthy, Tammy Klinger, and Hannah Groenink. Leaders with one year left on their term include Erin McCarthy, Christie Eisen and Dawn Clapp. Teen appointments to be announced. The next meeting of all 4-H horse leaders will be in late April. New Resource Office for 4-H Leaders In the new building on Fillmore, we will be providing an office area for 4-H leaders. There will be a library of educational materials (both written and DVD and CDROM) as well as computer access with high speed internet and copying ability. We hope to get it fully functional after the first of the year. We do ask you let us know when you plan to use it to make sure that it is open. Just call or Joan and she will put you on the calendar.
