We are excited to join Flesch, Turner, and O Hara in bringing you some quality bulls and heifers. I think we should have something for everyone s needs. It has been a record breaking year in the cattle industry, and never a better time to capitalize on added pounds to your calf crop. These Hereford bulls will do that for you. More and more ranchers are putting Herefords on their Black cows to take advantage of Heterosis. Herefords will add pounds, fertility, and longevity to your herd. Economic models predict that if replacement females are retained over a period of 10 years, Hereford sired females will generate a 20% advantage in herd size for the same relative cost versus the straight Angus commercial cows because of increased fertility and longevity. I have realized these advantages myself as I have been putting Hereford bulls on Angus females for 8 years now. The calves that come from this cross are constantly pushing the scale. I will have these F1 Heifers in the sale so you can see the quality yourself. These heifers have not been picked through. We are offering you the top of the replacements, as we didn t retain any of these F1 s in our herd. The steer mates to these heifers have been Grand Champion Market Steer at the Marias Fair for 2 years in row, and graded prime and Steer of Merit last year. It s nice to have the O Hara family join us this year. I didn t know that they sold a lot of cattle in this area, so this will work out good for everyone. If you are unfamiliar with my operation, I run a survival of the fittest type herd. Annual precipitation is less than 10 inches. Drought is common, wet years rare. My cows are broad muzzled, big ribbed and medium framed (not moderate). They are what s left after years of drought and me trying to starve a profit out them was a good year. We had about inches of rain spread out fairly even so it was a good grass year. It was a year of learning experiences (wrecks). Heifers from a purchased bull, and some purchased cows that raised huge calves on 12 inches of rain in 2013 raised dinks on inches in Well that s no good. My home bred cows raise bigger calves with age. It seems that most outside genetics can t compete in my environment anymore. Anyone interested in a load of fair weather cows? The Angus Association and I don t agree on their 0K blood test numbers and their epd s. The numbers on the paper don t match the performance in the pasture. Last year they were bad, this year they are totally insane. They are completely unusable so I won t use them. I hope you can all make it to the sale whether you need a bull or not. His daughters milk heavier than I thought so a 23 on milk, 1.0 scrotal, mid 30 s on disposition and around a + 20 on energy. These are my numbers not the Associations. His first daughters came into production this year and I couldn t be more thrilled. They were ALL calm and soft in their dispositions. They were ALL excellent mothers that laid out with their calves for 3 days, and they ALL had perfect square udders with 2/3 little finger teats. He balances body structure and improves udders. Russ and I have used him on heifers without any problems. His calves come long and skinny. He has an excellent disposition and is the most powerful growth bull I ve used. His first daughters in production are at the front of Russ s herd. They have beautiful elegant front ends, wide and deep back ends, perfect udders and little finger teats. His daughters are going to be something special. On his epd s I think they are close. Maybe a little less growth, more milk and an energy # around got busted up last fall so these are his last calves. I think I made a mistake by not getting semen on him.
