10 Royal Agricultural Society of WA would like to congratulate AIMEE COURT FCAS Beef Cattle Paraders Championship State Final at the 2016 IGA Perth Royal Show MONIKA MAGALENGO FCAS Beef Cattle Judging Championship State Final at the 2016 IGA Perth Royal Show From a young age living in the city with no family farming background, I had always known I wanted to work with large animals and one day own a property of my own. After attending Lockridge Senior High School (currently known as Kiara College) and participating in the farm programs, I grew a passion for handling cattle. I was offered a position within a cattle stud to further expand my cattle and showing knowledge and further set up my own Charolais Stud Trulee Charolais in I united in 2012 with my partner, joining Fairbrass Park Charolais and together we now own our first property. Over the many years showing cattle, I have had the privilege to enter the show ring at numerous WA country shows as well as interstate Royals such as Sydney and Adelaide. Since attending my first Perth Royal Show in 2006, I have not yet missed one to date and expecting on many more years to come in the show ring. I grew up in the city with minimal exposure to the agricultural industry apart from occasionally visiting the royal show. A keen interest in animals led me to the Animal Science degree at Murdoch through which I joined the cattle show team and started to develop my skills and practical experience. Attending the youth cattle camps helped me to build upon my knowledge and was a perfect introduction to the world of cattle judging. I am excited to continue my journey into the industry and would sincerely like to thank the Royal Agricultural Society of WA for this opportunity. 8

39 Royal Agricultural Society of WA would like to congratulate Kelly Manning on winning the FCAS Dairy Cattle Paraders Championship National Final at the 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show Winning the 2015 FCAS Young Judges Dairy Cattle Paraders Championship National Final in Sydney, at the Royal Easter Show, was an extremely rewarding experience whilst doing something I love. Although having grown up of the family s beef farm, my love for showing cattle only came about 6 years ago whilst attending the WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp for the very first time as a junior. I started off with beef cattle paraders, and then in later years I wanted to broaden my skills and also learn about dairy cattle parading. I was fortunate enough to attend the National All Breeds Dairy Youth Camp in Melbourne in January 2015, after winning the dairy handlers at the WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp. This then allowed me to build on my skills and meet young people within the dairy industry like myself, on the other side of the county. Today I try to be involved in shows as much as possible, still learning and meeting new people. I am also now able to give back to the WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp as a leader to help other kids who are keen like I was. Overall, my experience has been very humbling. Going across to Sydney to represent Western Australia was an honour and an incredible experience to be able to compete on a much larger scale. It was hugely surprising winning the National Final. I am very grateful and I would recommend it to anyone with a passion for this industry. I credit the WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp for igniting my passion showing cattle and helping me get to where I am today, and I would like to thank the Royal Agricultural Society of WA for their continued support for fantastic opportunities like these. They are important for the future of our cattle industry. 37

40 Royal Agricultural Society of WA would like to congratulate JESSICA ANDONY FCAS Dairy Cattle Paraders Championship State Final at the 2016 IGA Perth Royal Show ROXANNE MOSTERT FCAS Dairy Cattle Judging Championship State Final at the 2016 IGA Perth Royal Show I was born onto a dairy farm in Harvey and always had a passion for cattle. My parents were first generation dairy farmers and our herd was commercial, so unfortunately I didn t get involved in the showing scene until I was a teenager. I attended local agricultural shows and watched friends parade for many years until finally getting involved myself at the age of 18. I began cattle judging and parading while studying at Murdoch University in Perth where I initially showed beef cattle, but quickly transitioned to dairy. I now show at our local shows for a stud and enjoy all the preparation; from washing, clipping, top lines, shining and parading. I hope to continue to improve my showing knowledge and encourage others. Showing cattle is a very rewarding experience, and I m thankful to RASWA for the opportunity to compete interstate. Being brought up on the home dairy farm helped to foster a love for quality dairy cattle. My year 11 & 12 studies at the WA College of Agriculture, Denmark enabled me to continue this interest leading to my tertiary studies as an Animal Science student at Murdoch University. By working in the local industry wherever I can I look forward to continuing my skills and knowledge in this rewarding area of agriculture. My aspirations for the future include raising young dairy animals into quality milking cows. It will be a great privilege to represent WA in the national finals. I look forward to learning more and bringing the knowledge I gain back home with me to use within my local industry. 38

Animals within an individual class may be judged across one or more carcase weight categories depending on the spread of carcase weights in that individual class. The fat requirements for each category are outlined in the table below. These will be the categories used for judging under the ABCAS system. Exhibitors are required to predict what carcase weight their exhibit will be and ensure they have correct fat depths for that category. If a carcase has a fat depth in the correct range then it will score maximum points. If carcases are over or under fat, it is a sliding scale for points allocation. The ideal fat depths for carcases in the Carcase Competition are as follows for the different HSCW categories: Carcase Category A. Light domestic B. Medium domestic C. Heavy domestic D. Export (EU, Japan) Weight P8 Rib fat kg 4-8mm 3-6mm kg 6-10mm 4-7mm kg 8-12mm 5-9mm kg 10-14mm 7-11mm The measured fat depth of a carcase must fall within this range to gain maximum points. Points allocation using ABCAS scoring system 1. Market specifications (20 points) P8 fat depth 10 Meat colour 5 Fat distribution 5 Penalties* as required 53

Saleable meat yield (35 points) Rib fat depth 15 Eye muscle area 20 LIGHTWEIGHT CARCASE Special classes will only receive prize money if sponsored. 3. **MSA eating quality (combined, 45 points) Ultimate meat ph - units Ossification score Tropical breed content (TBC) 0-100% 45 points combined Hump height mm *** AUS-MEAT marbling 0-6 MSA marbling Sex - male or female Class 9 Lightweight Carcase. Minimum of 3mm of rib fat. 2. Adequate fat distribution. 3. ph of 5.70 or less. 4. Meat colour 1b and no greater than 3. Any carcases which fail any of the above requirements will receive a score of 0/45 for eating quality. ***Eating quality points are calculated using the predicted MSA eating quality scores of 35 cut by cook combinations (100 CMQ4 score points each) of economic importance in the carcase, giving a score out of 3500 and adjusted back to a score out of 45. The eating quality score will be highest in carcases with low TBC, no HGPs, low ossification and high marbling.
