3 Welcome to the Bata Brothers/Olafson Brothers Seventeenth Annual Simmental Bull And Female Production Sale Dear Friends, Welcome to our seventeenth annual sale. As another challenging year goes down in the books, I think it was the most up and down we have seen. Weather was always the topic. Cold late spring, drought, then high heat then a wet cold fall-climaxing with a super cold December. As life time ranchers, we feel the pain of the great cattle losses out west. We wish them the best in the coming years. With the high cattle prices, performance is more important than it ever has been. We are working at increasing your profit by increasing your cattle weights. Our new herdsire purchases are an example of the commitment we have made to increasing weaning and yearling weights. A commitment we have worked at for years. We are true performance advocates. We wish to thank Brent Kuss and family for their commitment to our embryo program. They do a great job of managing their herd of Simmental cross cows. Thank you. Our family has grown to 6 grandkids so we keep busy with them. Only 1 girl, so papa is busy spoiling her with dolls and tractors (little farmer in her as she loved feeding cows with papa). And yes! We spent the fall chasing the NDSU Bison. We loved the third National Championship. What a great trip to Texas again. Joe and Patty were honored this year at the NDSU Harvest Bowl as outstanding agriculturist from Walsh County. We continue to be excited and pleased with the tremendous progress that is ongoing in the Simmental breed. There is no question that the Simmental breed is the place to be if you are a cattle producer who wants to move your program forward quickly. It can be argued that in the last couple of decades, the Simmental breed has made more positive progress on the genetics of our cattle than any other breed. We continue to strive to produce cattle that will perform at a high level and produce profitable results for our customers. Our performance numbers have never been stronger than this year. Our bulls were weaned on September 12th, and posted an average daily gain of 4.31 after being slowly worked up to a 54 Mcal TMR ration. Our group average adjusted yearling weight came in at 1473 That is the kind of performance that will bring profitability to your herd. The cattle industry is seeing unprecedented record prices fueled in part by lower feed costs, and the future of the cattle business has never been brighter. We have the lowest cow inventory in the US since the 1950 s and demand for beef is rising. We are all hoping for a stronger economy in the US, and when it improves, there will unquestionably be much greater demand for beef. There has never been a more opportune time to prepare for tomorrow s stronger markets.
