ONE FAMILY. ONE HERD. ONE PASSION. Pictured l-r, V8 Ranch family: Luke & Catherine Neumayr; Luann & Jim Williams; Sloan & Mollie Williams; Jan & Payton Powell; Mollie Jo, Rachel, Brandon & Ann Catherine Cutrer. Not pictured: Knox Neumayr. What a whirlwind year it has been here at V8 Ranch! We started the year off at Houston, with Grand Champion Bull and Grand Champion Female, our Spring Performance Test Bull Sale was a fantastic sale, averaging around $10,000, a runaway fall born heifers sale in May, averaging a little over $28,000, and a record setting Power of Production Sale in September, with the +Mr. V8 380/6 semen selling for over $18,000 per straw. We are fortunate to have a team of people that have been blessed with individual talents ranging from ranch management to cattle breeding and marketing. Psalms 50:10 says, For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. As stewards of the cattle He has entrusted us with, we feel it is our responsibility to raise the best cattle we possibly can and manage them to our fullest ability. We take that very seriously. We are glad to offer a strong set of bulls for your consideration in this sale. These bulls are backed by generations of excellence in the area of Brahman cattle breeding. They represent some of the greatest cow families and performance pedigrees the Brahman breed has ever known. These bulls come with complete, individual performance history, and the reputation that V8 Ranch has earned with honest dealings, and superior cattle for generations. V8 Ranch is committed to breaking down barriers and improving the Brahman breed and crossbreeding with Brahman cattle. V8 is shorthand for a host of sought-after traits in the beef industry. It is also the symbol of our family s singular focus on producing one of the world s most exceptional Brahman herds. V8 Ranch is focused on producing the very best Brahman cattle in the world. We want them phenotypically eye appealing, but we want them to be relevant to the real world beef industry. By measuring birth weights, weaning weights, yearling weights, carcass ultrasounding, evaluating disposition scores, frame scores, and participating in the Brahman carcass evaluation program, we have V8 RANCH The Mark of Excellence. been able to gain hardcore data that we can use to influence our mating decisions and keep/cull decisions. We have been successfully putting selection pressure toward the desired traits, and against the negative traits. Over the past few years, we have made significant improvement on the fronts of lower birth weights, higher growth cattle (while trying to maintain a moderate frame size), improved carcass, and disposition. These bulls have the quality and performance traits to improve most herds of registered Brahman cattle, or send an F1 program soaring to new heights. All these bulls are gentle and all are low birth weight except one - Mr. V8 992/7 (S)...992/7 is a special feature offered to help improve polled Brahman genetics but his birthweight is too high for crossbreeding. Check out the performance and bone he offers! These range bulls come highly recommended and we thank you for your consideration of V8 Ranch genetics. -May God Bless You, Brandon Cutrer

Honest Performance Data. Every Single Day. Nothing worthwhile is every easy; but it s worth it. Accurately reporting performance data is hard work it means hand-weighing each and every calf born on the ranch within 24 hours of its birth. It s what the Beef Improvement Federation suggests. It s how we ve always done it V8 Ranch. And, it s how we intend to keep doing it. Sure, it s tempting to take shortcuts. In fact, many breeders do. Some don t take the time to physically weigh the calves, guesstimating weights instead. Others list the same birth weight for every single calf. Wouldn t it be great if every calf on your ranch weighed 72 pounds at birth? We all know that in a real-world ranching situation, this just doesn t happen. At V8 Ranch, honesty and transparency are paramount in everything we do and that includes performance reporting. In this year s V8 calf crop, our birth weights fell within a range of pounds. Why is reporting accurate weights so important? Pounds Range of BW s on all 2016 born bulls at V8 Ranch. Performance EPDs are calculated based on weight measurements of cattle, turned in by individual breeders. The EPD allows you, as a buyer, to compare cattle within our herd and with other herds. If the EPD data is inaccurate, your buying decision and your Brahman breeding practice are no longer based on informed decisions they re a gamble. Without true data, you can no longer estimate the birth weight of future calves with any accuracy. At V8 Ranch, our data is hand-collected according to BIF standards and it s reported accurately, whether it s good or bad. The most important thing is - it s accurate. A high birth weight bull isn t useless; it just means you can t breed him to first calf heifers or Angus cows. Know what is useless? Inaccurate performance data. Yes, our methods require a lot of hard work and extra effort. But it s worth it for us, and most importantly, for you.

Look for the Power Rating box in this catalog! If you re a V8 client and would like to know the Power Ratings of YOUR cattle, just office@v8ranch.com and we can assist you. POWER RATING A simplified rating of economic value, completely customized for V8 customers. The V8 Power Rating is a unique selection tool that was developed using actual V8 customer data to model cattle production systems, thereby providing producers with improved service and greater insight into each selection s possibilities. The V8 Power Rating is based on well-established scientific procedures that are guaranteed to help our clients maximize their genetic progress and, in turn, their bottom line.

The V8 Power Rating. A selection tool offered by no other Brahman breeder. As forward-thinking seedstock breeders, V8 Ranch exists to serve our customers whether they re in the purebred or the commercial business. We believe in performance. We raise performance-oriented cattle, and we serve performance-oriented clients. Compared to breeds, Brahman offers very few selection tools. When you consider EPDs individually for instance, birth weight vs. fertility vs. carcass merit vs. performance it can lead to single-trait selection and information overload for the buyer. We wanted a clearer, more intuitive experience for our clients. So, in 2015, we began our quest to broaden the scope of available Brahman selection tools. First, we brought in three of the nation s top animal breeding experts to lay the foundation of what needed to be included. Then, we went to our customers. We analyzed their production records, performance records, and marketing. In 2016, we personally funded the research of Dr. Michael MacNeill, a leading expert in animal breeding, to put our idea into action. To us, our customers are worth the investment. This work resulted in the V8 Power Rating. How to Use the V8 Power Rating Essentially, you use the V8 Power Rating exactly as you would an EPD. It will be more useful than a regular EPD, though, because it factors in economic merit, seeing as how our ultimate goal at V8 is to help our clients make money. The V8 Power Rating is a scientific combination of birth weight, performance, maternal ability, fertility, carcass merit, and marketing options. It weights each factor according to its economic merit, and presents them to you, the buyer, as one easy-tounderstand number. The average Brahman, based on breed average EPDs, has a V8 Power Rating of $0. The V8 Power Rating represents the additional dollars you can expect if you use V8 cattle in your herd. For example, say you have two bulls. One has a Power Rating of +$10 and the other +$30. You could expect your ranch to reap $20 more from each cow exposed to the second bull than you could from each cow exposed to the first. The Why Behind the V8 Power Rating The V8 Power Rating is revolutionary for the Brahman breed. No other Brahman ranch not even the Brahman breed association offers a tool of this caliber. Why did we do it? Sure, we could have sat back and done nothing. We could have kept on going with the small set of tools available in our breed, even though other breeds like Angus and Hereford have triple the amount of selection tools available. But that s not how we operate at V8. We want more. We go the extra mile. As a Brahman ranch ourselves, we know full well that buying Brahman cattle is a sound investment. But buying cattle can feel like a gamble, and we want our clients to have every confidence in their purchases. So, with great pride, we offer the V8 Power Rating to ensure our customers have the best selection tools possible at their disposal. Top 5 V8 Power Rating Index Ranking of the Bulls Mr. V8 913/7 1. 13 V8 BULLS DEVELOPED TO PERFORM HERD HEALTH AND BULL DEVELOPMENT Birth- Within 24 hours of birth, every calf has a birth weight collected, and is ear tagged with Sire, Dam, and individual ID number. 3-4 Months old Bulls are dehorned if needed, vaccinated with Calvary 9 focusing on Blackleg, and dewormed using Valbazen. 6-8 Months old Bulls are branded, weaning weights collected, assigned a disposition score, vaccinated again with Calvary 9, given Vista Once as a respiratory vaccination, and dewormed with Ivonmec Plus. Once weaned, bulls are swapped from Purina Accuration LW that was used as creep feed to Purina s Blue Impact starter ration. The bulls are fed this high roughage ration for two weeks to combat the stress of weaning. Culling decisions may be made at this time Months old- Bulls enter the V8 Ranch Bull Development Program and are developed on Purina Accuration Limiter #1 until 12 months. During this time bulls are dewormed every 60 days with alternating rounds of Ivonmec Plus and Valbazen, and given Multi-min mineral and vitamin supplements. During this period bulls are continually evaluated on quality, soundness, and disposition. At 12 months yearling weights are collected, disposition scores assigned again, and ultrasound data collected. Culling decisions may be made at this time. 12 Months Sale time Bulls are moved to Purina Accuration Limiter #2 that restricts feed intake, and turned out on to Bermuda grass or oat pasture (depending on time of year) to condition the bulls for service. Deworming protocol is maintained every 60 days. Breeding soundness exams are given starting at 18 months. FIRST BREEDING SEASON These bulls will range in age from 18 to 22 months old. They have been developed in a way as to handle pasture conditions better than most bulls, however we ask that you take special consideration because they still have some teeth to loose and some growing to do. Until they are full 2 year old bulls, a light load of no more than 15 cows is recommended. Once they hit 24 months, you can add more cows to his breeding herd. 23 GENETIC PARTNERS PROGRAM MARKETING ASSISTANCE FOR REGISTERED BRAHMAN BREEDERS: V8 Ranch will help those in the V8 Genetic Partners program promote and market cattle bred with a V8 sire or dam. We will feature offspring from your V8 Genetic Partners cattle at no charge on our social media platforms. With a following of more than 100K fans, V8 s online platforms are a great way to promote your cattle and encourage direct inquiries from our customers. And, since our demand for quality Brahman cattle often exceeds supply, our cooperator marketing program is designed to support our clients while meeting the demands of those seeking exceptional Brahmans. Bull Test Participation Opportunities We also offer customers the option to bring their bulls to our ranch to be marketed under the V8 Ranch umbrella. In order to qualify for this option, customers must adhere to our strict guidelines for bull development. We reserve the final approval on what bulls may qualify for the program. All of the following criteria must be met: Bulls must have an actual birth weight and weaning weight at your ranch. Cooperators must DNA verify each animal prior to delivery. Bulls must be dehorned and unbranded. At weaning or shortly thereafter, cooperators must bring their bulls to V8 Ranch for visual evaluation and consideration for the cooperator marketing program. The criteria for evaluation will be overall quality, structure, sheath, and disposition. Cooperators must sign bull test liability release form. Qualifying bulls may be offered the chance to be branded V8 and registered as a Mr. V8. Each cooperator will be listed as the breeder on the registration papers. These bulls will enter our V8 Ranch bull test alongside our sale bulls. The top 15 bulls from the test will be sold in our online performance bull sale. The remaining bulls will be marketed via private treaty at the ranch. Bulls that do not meet these requirements will receive the option to be steered with V8 steers in the ABBA Carcass Evaluation program, or returned home to your operation. The cooperator will receive a copy of the feed costs and any itemized costs for associated care (i.e., veterinary charges, registration fees, etc.) on a monthly basis. Additionally, cooperators will receive a copy of all data collected. Cooperators will be charged a daily feed charge of $5.00 per day, per head during the bull test. This daily charge must be paid monthly to remain in the test. V8 Ranch will deduct a 10% commission on all sales. Pro-rated sales expenses will be assessed for bulls that qualify for the online bull sale (this cost is usually $200 per head). MARKETING ASSISTANCE FOR F1 COOPERATORS: F1 producing clients can also participate in the V8 Genetic Partners program. We encourage all V8 clients to send pictures and information on their F1 steers or females so that we may market them on the V8 website and Facebook page. For clients with steer calves, V8 will help organize and sell load lots with other cooperators through the Superior Progressive Genetics program. Load lots will be based on age, size, breed composition, and type. F1 clients also have the option to consign their steers to the ABBA Carcass Evaluation Program. It s possible that a small percentage of F1 bull calves may be marketed as breeding bulls if they meet quality requirements. We hope that you are as excited as we are about this program designed to thank you, our valued V8 Ranch clients, for your patronage and support you in your efforts to optimize the profitability of your ranches. Thank you for investing in V8 genetics.

Why do we care so much about Birth Weights? We believe that the Brahman bull is the #1 bull to use in crossbreeding systems throughout the south, where warm climates and harsh conditions prevail. Using a Brahman bull on any other breed maximizes hybrid vigor, giving you more pounds at weaning and yearling. However, it also means more pounds at birth. By understanding this, producers can reduce their incidence of calving trouble by using bulls with lower actual birthweights and lower BW EPDs, when they buy bulls from breeders who obsess about reporting accurate actual birthweights, like we do. Dr. Jim Sanders, professor of the Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science discusses this topic at length in his Breeds class, which several members of our family took. Data from the McGregor Station shows the difference in birth weights using different breeds. We find this information to be very useful in educating new breeders about how to use Brahman bulls in a crossbreeding program. Honestly, we don t worry too much about birth weight when breeding our own pasture cows at V8. Here s why...if you look at those same charts, you notice that the calves with a Brahman dam always have the lowest birth weight. That s because there s something in those amazing Brahman cows DNA that actually makes them reduce the birth weights. So, in managing birth weights, if you have a bull that s a little higher, don t stress - all that means is that he just needs to go on registered or purebred Brahman cows, or even cows with at least half Brahman blood. If you look at our top herd bulls at our ranch, you ll notice some of them have birth weights even in the 90s. We don t stress because those super herd bulls are going on 100% registered Brahman cows. The Brahman cow will take care of it. <79 Bull can be used to breed to Angus or Hereford cows >80 Bull designed to be used in a registered or purebred Brahman herd. These are often some of the highest performing bulls too. Here are our recommendations for breeding Brahman bulls: We do not recommend breeding any Brahman bull to British heifers, no matter what the birth weight. We feel comfortable recommending a bull with an actual birth weight of 79 pounds or less are suitable to use on British cows. We also take into consideration the BW EPD. Data published with permission from Texas A&M University, Dr. Jim Sanders

HYBRID VIGOR Breeding a Brahman bull to a cow of any breed gives you that highest amount of hybrid vigor possible in the cattle business. That s why Brahman is considered the crossbreeding common denominator. MORE POUNDS More pounds = more profit. Brahman-sired calves gain fast and efficiently. They stay healthy, and produce heavier, higher yielding carcasses that are free of excess fat, which today s packer and health-conscious consumer demand. DROUGHT RESISTANCE Remember ol Brer Rabbit and the brier patch? That s a Brahman in a drought. They can repel insects, resist ticks, and they work harder and work longer even in the toughest of conditions. HEAT TOLERANCE One thing is certain, you won t see your V8 bull laying under a shade tree when he has work to do. You put in a full days work whether it s a cool 70 degrees or a sweltering 110 degrees outside - and your V8 bulls will too. And maybe the best reason of all... THE F-1 FEMALE Quite simply, there s no better cow. Increased milk production, higher fertility, faster-growing calves and lower inputs. Plus, she lasts longer, meaning she raises more calves over her lifetime than other breeds.
