IF LIVESTOCK PULLS OUT BEFORE THE FAIR WEEK IS OVER, THE 4-H'ER WILL RECEIVE AN INCOMPLETE, AND ARE INELIGIBLE TO SELL AN ANIMAL AT THE 4-H AUCTION. THE 4-H'ER WILL ALSO NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW AT THE STATE FAIR, AND NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW IN CASS COUNTY THE FOLLOWING YEAR. READ ALL GENERAL LIVESTOCK RULES AND THE 4-H LIVESTOCK AUCTION SECTIONS. MINI MEMBERS INTERESTED IN DAIRY SHOULD READ THE MINI PAGE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. 1. When stall request forms are filled out and the number of stalls asked for does not correspond with the exact number of calves exhibited, a $25 fee per empty stall will be charged and the exhibitor will lose the stall. If not paid, the exhibitor will not be able to show. The only exceptions will be death, injury, or very special cases. Cancellations must be made one week prior to the fair to the committee chairman. There will be a stall/bark fee per head exhibited at the fair (amount TBA). 2. DAIRY CATTLE MUST ARRIVE AFTER 5:00 A.M. AND BEFORE 10 A.M. ON MONDAY, OF THE FAIR. A COMMITTEE MEMBER MUST BE PRESENT TO UNLOAD ANIMALS. 3. FEMALES WILL BE JUDGED FRIDAY, OF THE FAIR, STARTING AT 1:00 P.M. WITH THE JUNIOR CALF, THEN GRADE JUNIOR CALF AND SO FORTH. 4. RELEASE TIME: Females will be released after the show. 5. All dairy animals must have been enrolled on-line, this includes the Dairy Partnership animals with animal identification numbers. Registration numbers of purebred animals must check with those enrolled on-line. Dairy cattle must have a RFID tag entered. 6. Each member is entitled to show one entry in each class. Only two breeds may be shown per member. 7. Order to show will be determined by age of the animal, youngest to oldest. All animals will enter ring and line up in order of age. (a) 4 yr. old & over cow... born prior to 8/31/12 (b) 3 yr. old cow... born 9/1/12 8/31/13 (c) 2 yr. old cow... born 9/1/13 2/29/14 (d) Junior 2 yr. old cow... born 3/1/14 8/31/14 (e) Senior Yearling... born 9/1/14 11/30/14

2 (f) Intermediate Yearling... born 12/1/14 2/28/15 (g) Junior Yearling... born 3/1/15 5/31/15 (h) Summer Junior Yearling... born 6/1/15 8/31/15 (i) Senior Calf... born 9/1/15 11/30/15 (j) Fall Senior Calf... born 12/1/15 2/28/16 (k) Junior Calf... born 3/1/16 or later (at least 4 months old) DAIRY continued 8. There will be 3 showmanship divisions for the Dairy members. a) Junior Showmanship grades 3 rd thru 8 th b) Senior Showmanship grades Freshman and older c) Master Showmanship any previous Senior Showmanship winner is eligible. **Note** No previous champions are eligible in the same division. Showmanship When the 4-H Showman has won a showmanship class they MUST move to the next showmanship class the next year (not in the same year) EXCEPTION if the member wins Senior Showmanship, he/she will automatically move up into Master Showmanship division for the Master Competition, in the current year. 9. Registered and Grade animals will be shown together. Grade animals must look like the breed it represents. Junior and Senior Champions will be chosen for each breed. Champion and Reserve Champion will be chosen for each breed. All grade animals must be identified by a STATE APPROVED METAL EAR TAG. THIS INCLUDES JUNIOR CALVES. 10. Cows in milk may be brought in on day of show and released after the show. Any such cows must be in 1 hour prior to the show. 11. Grand Champion animals from previous Cass County 4-H Fairs may not be shown in the three year old and over class. 12. IN CLASSES OF A BREED WHERE THERE IS ONLY ONE ANIMAL, NO TROPHY WILL BE AWARDED! 13. All items not covered will be governed according to state fair rules as interpreted by the dairy committee. 14. Any contagious medical condition should be brought to the species committee before unloading or as soon as it is noted. If the committee feels it is a contagious condition, the 4-H er will be given 2 choices. They can take the animal home or have a Veterinarian come and diagnose the condition at the cost of the 4-H er. 15. To be able to exhibit dairy, please read General Livestock Rule number All dairy cow champions of breeds will compete for dairy cow grand champion animal. THE GRAND CHAMPION DAIRY COW WILL BE PERMITTED TO SELL A GALLON OF MILK (unless project grows to 25 head of dairy females at the fair). 17. Only bark and/or shavings is allowed for use of bedding on the fairgrounds. This includes the tie-out 18. Dairy Barn meeting, Monday of fair at 10:00 a.m. at West Picnic Pavilion. All exhibitors are recommended to attend. 19. Dairy Barn 4-H Members & Family: Picnic on Tuesday at noon at bottom of hill. Bring covered dish, main dish will be provided by committee. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DAIRY STEER DAIRY STEER CO-CHAIRMEN AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS: SAME AS "DAIRY" Dairy Steers must arrive after 5:00 a.m. and before 10 a.m. on Monday of the fair. A committee

3 member must be present to unload animals. DAIRY STEERS WILL BE JUDGED WEDNESDAY, OF THE FAIR, FOLLOWING THE DAIRY FEEDER CALVES. (Beef judging will follow Dairy Steer judging.) RELEASE TIME: All animals not to be sold in the 4-H Auction will be released from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, to 8:00 a.m., Saturday of the fair. DAIRY STEER continued 1. All Dairy Steers must be from grade or purebred dairy cows and sired by dairy bulls of the same breed, showing that breed s characteristics and markings. No Dairy Breed crossing or Dairy/Beef breed crosses allowed. A sifting committee will be used to determine individual animal eligibility for the dairy steer division. Committee members will do sifting up to weigh-in time of the fair. All dairy steers will be entered as determined by the sifting Committee and exhibited as entered at enrollment. Dairy Steer Sifting Committee: Chairman - Bob McKaig, Mark Musall, Terry Snyder, and Mark Mettler 2. All Dairy Steers must be ear tagged, and weighed at the 4-H Exhibition Building. Any 4-H Dairy Steer not tagged and enrolled on-line will not be eligible to show at the 2016 Cass County 4-H Fair. 3. EACH EXHIBITOR MUST DRAW FOR AUCTION ORDER NUMBER MONDAY OF THE 4-H FAIR! 4. Each 4-H Member may enroll and show up to 3 steers. 5. Exhibitor must declare which animal hey will show at time of check-in if registered by multiple siblings. If changes are made they must be done within 15 minutes of weigh-in completion. 6. All DAIRY STEER animals MUST be brought to tagging day and enrolled on-line. LATE ENROLLMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! 7. All breeds will show in same class. Steers must weigh more than 830 pounds to be eligible for the 4-H Auction. The dairy committee will determine the classes by weight. 8. All steers must be castrated and have no horns by tag and weigh-in day on February 20 th. Steers not meeting these requirements may be shown at the fair if they are castrated and/or have no horns within 30 days after the tag and weigh-in day and the Extension Office receives a letter from their licensed veterinarian that states they now meet the requirements. 9. After the Grand Champion Steer has been selected, the second place steer from the Grand Champion's class will advance to show for Reserve Grand Champion. 10. There will be 4 showmanship divisions for the Dairy Steer/Dairy Feeder Steer Calf members. a) Junior Showmanship - grades 3 rd thru 5 th b) Intermediate Showmanship - grades 6 th thru 8 th c) Senior Showmanship - grades 9 th and older d) Master Showmanship any previous Senior Showmanship winner is eligible **Note** No previous champions are eligible in the same division Showmanship When the 4-H Showman has won a showmanship class they MUST move to the next showmanship class he next year (not in the same year) EXCEPTION if the member wins Senior Showmanship, he/she will automatically move up into Master Showmanship division for the Master Competition, in the current year. 11. DAIRY FEEDER STEER CALF * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * County Project CO-CHAIRMEN AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS: SAME AS "DAIRY" Dairy Feeder Steer Calves must arrive after 5:00 a.m. and before 10 a.m. on Monday of the fair. A Dairy Feeder Steer Calf sifting committee (same as Dairy Steer) will be used to determine individual animal eligibility for the Dairy Feeder Steer Calf Division. Dairy Beef Sifting Committee: Chairman - Bob McKaig, Mark Musall, Terry Snyder, and Mark Mettler 1. All sifting committee decisions are final. A 4-H'er may obtain a blood test on sifted animals. The 4- H'er will be responsible for the blood test expenses. However, if the test results show that the animal in question is confirmed to be a full-blooded dairy breed, the committee will reimburse the 4-H er. 2. Classes will be made up by weight, with an upper weight limit being 600 lbs. Animals over 600 lbs. will be shown in an overweight class but not eligible for Grand Champion or to sell in the 4-H Auction. However overweight animals can be used in showmanship classes. An overweight animal is not eligible to sell unless the exhibitor has no other eligible animal. 3. Each exhibitor may enroll and show up to 3 steers. 4. All livestock general health rules apply. 5. Any contagious medical condition should be brought to the species committee before unloading or as soon as it is noted. If the committee feels it is a contagious condition, the 4-H er will be given 2 choices. They can take the animal home or have a Veterinarian come and diagnose the condition at the cost of the 4-H er. 6. All dairy feeders must be castrated and have no horns and be healed by Monday, weigh-in day of the fair. 7. Dairy Feeder Steer Calves are to be brought to the 4-H Fairgrounds, 10:00 a.m. 12:00 noon, on May 7 th to be ear tagged by the Advisory Committee. Families must then enroll animals on-line by May 15 th to be eligible for County and State Fairs. Each 4-H'er enrolled in the Dairy Feeder Steer Calf project will be allowed to tag and enroll three animals. Sifting will be done up to weigh-in time of the fair. 10. No overnight or daytime camping is allowed at the Cass County 4-H fairgrounds. B5UDRESS CODE FOR EXHIBITING AND SELLING 4-H LIVESTOCK 4-H ers should dress appropriately for the 4-H livestock shows and 4-H livestock auction. Appropriate dress includes being neat and clean, no midriff showing, no shoulders showing, and no sandals. Commercial advertisement of names or insignia, farm names and family names on 4-H exhibitors or exhibits while showing, is prohibited. No low cut shirts or short shorts, no tank tops, no cleavage showing and no cracks showing. Violations could be subject to animal/4-h er dismissal from class. UAUCTION RULES: 1) If the 4-H member is not with their animal at the time their animal is scheduled to sell in the 4-H auction, then the 4-H auction animal will be scratched from the auction and will not have another chance to sell. The animal will be the responsibility of the family to remove from the fairgrounds by 6:00 p.m. Saturday of the fair. 2) For each 4-H item or animal that is sold in the auction, 10% of the premium will be assessed for the auction fee, with a $300 maximum (auction fee). 3) See 4-H Auction Section for more auction details.
