3 ATTENTION EXHIBITORS!! Highlighted rules Full list of rules are listed in exhibitor handbook No duct tape allowed on any State Fair property Any vehicle parked by the beef or sheep barn other than during exhibitor feed pass hours will be towed at exhibitor s expense. Rule will be enforced. All generators are to be kept outside on east side of barn and shut off when not in use. Feed, hay, and supplies are limited to a 2 day maximum inside the barn. Each exhibitor is responsible to keep tack and feed area organized and clean. (Failure to do so will result in removal of clutter or excess) There will be no chutes or feed at the end of the bleachers - NO EXCEPTIONS! No port-a-cools! Registration papers must be presented at check in. 4-H cattle showing in Open Class shows must be checked in during the Open Class check in times published unless exhibitors have contacted superintendents prior to check in. Group classes must be entered on entry forms at time entries are due. Any changes to the stalling assignments must be approved by superintendents! NO EXCEPTIONS! No straw in the tie outs! The woodchip bedding is available for the Open Class Beef cattle only! No other open class species or 4-H housed animals/beef are allowed to use bedding piles outside of the beef barn and will result in fines. Bobcats are not allowed to haul woodchips into barn or tie-outs. W-9 s and waivers must be completed and submitted at time entries are due. Failure to do so will result in livestock entries ineligible to show and forfeiture of premiums. No individual pens allowed in tie outs. Stall dividers are acceptable in tie out area. All animals must be double tied. Tack must be maintained in stall area inside of beams and not out into main aisles of the barn. No pumping or drenching of any animals unless directed by a veterinary. Failure to follow rules will ban exhibitors from participating in OC Beef shows. Exhibitors are limited to 1 blocking chute per 6 head of cattle. Blocking chutes are only allowed along the perimeter of the building-not in the stalls or aisles and require a permit/sticker. Tack stalls are limited to 1 tack stall (2 ties) per exhibitor.

Exhibitors entered in another show will be required to show proof of entry to that show for early release. SPECIAL RULES 1. ENTRY CLOSING DATE!!!!!!!!: August 1st. Late entries will be accepted if all the following conditions are met: Adequate exhibit space is available. Late entries fees will be determined by date received. The fees for late entries shall be as listed on the entry fee sheet. Entry fees for late entries shall be paid by bank draft, certified check, money order or bank credit card (VISA, MASTER CARD, and OR DISCOVER CARD). DO NOT MAIL CASH. 2. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE TYPED OR LEGIBLY PRINTED TO BE ACCEPTED! All entries must be made upon the printed entry forms which may be secured from the Fair Office or on line at and must show the Division and Class numbers, the name, registry number, date of birth and number of sires and dams of each animal. Entries must give exhibitor's name and address, social security number or federal tax ID. 3. Animals registered in 2 breeds can only show in 1 breed. 4. No nurse cows will be allowed. 5. No animal shall be entered in the name of any other than the BONA FIDE owner or owners; and should any prove to be otherwise entered, premiums awarded to them will be forfeited. 6. The name of exhibitors, as PRINTED on the entry blank, must correspond and be the same names as on the breed registration papers and W Entry Fees. Fees must be paid at the time of making entry. There will be a $30.00 fee for blocking chutes. Exhibitors limited to 1 blocking chute per 6 head of cattle. Chutes must remain on outside perimeter of building. No chutes are allowed in aisles or stalls except for show day of the breed being exhibited. Tack stalls are limited to 1 tack stall per exhibitor (2 ties per 1 tack stall entry). 8. All Cattle must be on the grounds by 9:00 pm Wednesday of the fair. All Cattle will be checked at the OC Beef Office on Wednesday from 8am 10pm REFUND POLICY: The fair may refund entry fees paid by an exhibitor if the exhibitor requests the refund in writing at least two weeks before the opening day of the fair and states the reason for requesting the refund. 9. All animals occupying stalls must be entered for competition and shows in their respective Divisions. 10. All animals at tie-outs must be double-tied. No straw in tie-outs. 11. Check entries with superintendent/breed representative before your breed shows. Substitutions must be made at this time only. 12. REGISTRY CERTIFICATES (except for steers) MUST BE PROVIDED BEFORE ANIMALS CAN BE SHOWN IN THE RING AND MUST BE SHOWN AT CHECK IN. 13. Exhibitors will be permitted 3 entries in each Class but only 2 awards will be made to an exhibitor. 14. GROUP ENTRIES. Class numbers must be listed on entry blank, but animals need not be named. Animals must be entered and shown in individuals Classes, and name and number of each animal given to the clerk when group is shown.

5 15. One member from any family, household, or business establishment may make entry in any Class. EXCEPTION: 4-H animals housed in 4-H barns. 16. Exhibitors will be required to keep their stalls and pens clean and alleys free from obstruction. No wheelbarrows available. Bring your own. Fans must blow east to west. NO BUTT FANS or PORT-A- COOL s. No tack is allowed outside of beams in main aisles of the barn. 17. EXHIBITS CANNOT BE ALTERED. Any animal or exhibit which shows evidence that artificial means, including but not limited to dyes, etc. were used with intent to deceive for the purpose of removing or altering physical defects or conformation, shall be excluded from participation in any of the awards. Such exhibitor will be disbarred from participation in competition, and any awards or premiums previously awarded to the exhibitor will be withdrawn. The judge in each classification will have jurisdiction in the matter. 18. It is not necessary to make entries for champions. No cash award will be paid for Breed Champions. 19. New breeds of livestock can show based on availability of ties, number of exhibitors entered (10 head minimum per division), and number of animals entered to warrant addition to the premium book. 20. All female cattle 42 months of age must have produced a calf within the last 18 months to be eligible to show. Any bull over 36 months entered in any of the breeding classes that has not dropped to his servicing a living calf during the eight months preceding the opening day of the fair shall be deemed barren and as such, shall be excluded from competition. Certificates from exhibitors properly attested may be required by the superintendent. 21. It is required that each breed association furnishes their own Ring Steward and Show Announcer for their show. 22. The South Dakota State Fair Commission has adopted and will enforce the IAFE National Code of Show Ring Ethics. A copy of this code can be obtained by contacting either the State Fair Office or the building superintendent. 23. Please keep feed, hay, and supplies to a limited amount of a 2 day supply due to limited tack space and chute space available. Each exhibitor is responsible to keep tack area organized and clean, including chute area along the perimeter of the barns. 24. Woodchips are available to Open Class Exhibitors only whom paid a bedding fee. No other Open Class species or 4-H animals/beef are allowed to use the piles of bedding outside of the OC Beef barn and will result in fines. No bobcats are allowed to haul woodchips into the barn or outside ties.. CATTLE HEALTH REGULATIONS A, completed Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, listing individual animal official identification must accompany all animals exhibited at the South Dakota State Fair. The Certificate of Veterinary Inspection must be issued within 30 days of Fair entry. Certificates of Veterinary Inspection written for animals originating from outside the State of South Dakota must have a telephone import permit number listed on the certificate. The consignee mustbe listed as: South Dakota State Fair, rd St. SW Huron, SD Exhibitors must have a separate Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) for each species of animal exhibited. Exhibitors with animals entering the State Fairgrounds between 7AM and 10PM must present a CVI to a representative of the South Dakota Animal Industry Board (AIB) at the gate. This CVI is retained by the exhibitor and given to the show superintendent when the exhibitor receives stall assignments. Stall assignment information should be written on the CVI. Place the CVI in a designated collection area. Animals must be free of signs of communicable and infectious disease at the time of entry onto the Fairgrounds. Any determination of the health status of an animal will be at the discretion of the State Veterinarian or official representative. At the direction of the State Fair Commission, all animals will be subject to testing for foreign substances by the State Veterinarian. Out-of-state participants with cattle originating from tuberculosis modifiedaccredited advanced (MAA) state (California) or cattle originating from tuberculosis modified accredited (MA) state or zone (Michigan) need to have their veterinarian contact the South Dakota Animal Industry Board at (605) for current test requirements. CASH PREMIUM SCHEDULE Prize money in each Beef Division will be paid on the following scale: $75 $60 $45 $35 $30 **Divisions of 15 head or more may be split at the discretion of the Superintendent. **Groups - Only one entry per Division will be paid. *To qualify for Supreme Champion competition, animal must win either Grand or Reserve Champion Bull or Grand or Reserve Champion Female in their respective breed division. Only the animal named Grand or Reserve Champion for that breed will qualify no substitutions. If the Grand Champion for the breed is not present for the Supreme Champion competition, premiums will be forfeited for that animal (with exceptions due to family emergency or religion). *Supreme Champion Bull will receive $1,000 cash prize and a semen collection sponsored by 605 Sires Marion, SD. Supreme Champion Female will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a flush sponsored by BovaGen, Lake City, SD (terms determined by Sponsor). *All Grand Champion Breed exhibitors also qualify for the chance to win the use of a 24, three compartment trailer; compliments of Wilson Trailer. Exhibitors of breed champions, excluding the two Supreme Champion winners, will play one hand of draw poker, one game for the bull exhibitors and one for the female exhibitors. The two winners of each hand will then play again for the use of Wilson trailer. *Yackley/Trans-Ova Genetics will award all Breed Champions both Bulls & Females at the SDSF Open Class beef shows a $100 credit voucher at Trans-Ova. HERDSMAN AWARD The SD STATE FAIR will award a single herdsmanship award for the entire Open Class Beef Barn to the exhibitor who exhibits the qualities required to sustain a premier show including, but not limited to cleanliness of stalls, general neatness in care of barns and livestock, and cooperation and courtesy through out the entire show to other exhibitors and staff. For safety and security of livestock and personal property, the SD State Fair has established a Quiet Time in all barns that starts at 2am (when Beer Garden closes) until 5am. Large gatherings or parties or excessive socializing will be prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.

EXCEPTION- Cattle Bred-and-owned by a spouse, legal children, brothers & sisters, parents of the exhibitor may be included provided the exhibitor is an individual or married couple identified by a single member code. 53.COW-CALF : Cows three years of age and younger, cows must be born January 1, 2010 through August 31, Calf must be the cow s most recent natural calf and be no more than 280 days of age on the day of the show. 54. COW-CALF : Cows four years of age and younger, cows must be born December 31, 2009 or earlier. Calf must be the cow s most recent natural calf and be no more than 280 days of age on the day of the show. American Angus Association Rules The American Angus Association, 3201 Frederick Avenue, St. Joseph, Mo., will participate in premiums offered for open class Angus breeding cattle classes according to the premium schedule based on the number of head shown. The premium assistance provided by the American Angus Association for participation in this show is in addition to the premiums offered by the show itself. The premium assistance should not be used to offset show expense and shall be included in the premium payments distributed by the show to the exhibitors. A minimum of 50 head must be shown in the open class division to receive American Angus Association premium participation for the following year. Premiums from the Association are paid only to registered Angus cattle and only if the registration number is a part of the show report provided to the Association. Therefore, all cattle should be registered at the time of entry to make certain they receive the Association's portion of premiums. The Association does not pay on championship or any group classes, (i.e. get-of-sire, junior get-of-sire or breeder six-head). Exhibitors must have the original registration certificate issued by the American Angus Association available for inspection at the show for each animal or another current proof of ownership issued by the American Angus Association pedigree look up. Any animal, upon check-in, which does not have a legible permanent identification mark (ear tattoo marks, freeze-branded marks or hot-branded marks) corresponding to the permanent identification mark on the registration certificate, is ineligible to show. Once disqualified due to an incorrect or illegible permanent identification mark, animals cannot be re-identified (tattooed/branded) and rechecked at the show. Any female shown with a calf at side: the calf must be the cow's most recent natural calf, and the calf must be registered by show day and have proof of registration at check in. Only one person at a time shall lead an animal into the show ring. Exhibitors who participate in shows that accept premium monies contributed by the American Angus Association are subject to the Association Rules as found in the Breeders Reference Guide of the Association. These rules are found in Part 2; Association Rules. The rules relating directly with the exhibition of Angus cattle are Part 2: Association Rules; Rule 800 Series; including Rule These rules can be found at Altering the conformation and/or appearance of an animal for exhibition is prohibited. This includes the use of chin straps, covering of white skin, false tail heads (or use of any false hair), with the exception of false tail switches. The use of graphite, powders, hemp or other similar substances used externally are also prohibited. Other prohibited products include those used internally such as steroids, illegal or unlicensed pharmaceuticals or artificial filling. Any animal found to be in violation will be barred from showing. At any show for which the American Angus Association appropriates funds toward the payment of premiums, no exhibitors, individuals assisting exhibitors or member owners at such show shall be allowed to use any coloring agents, on any animal exhibited. The Association may adopt and implement various tests designed to monitor this prohibition, including but not limited to a white towel or white glove test. No aerosol cans or other pressurized containers will be allowed in designated line up areas. All animals exhibited are subject to DNA marker or blood type test to verify accuracy of parentage as covered under the Association Rules and for other testing as required by the individual show. Authorized representatives of the Association have the authority to enforce the rules set forth herein as well as in the Association Rules, including the barring of a registered animal from a livestock show at which it is to be shown, if there are reasonable grounds to believe a violation has occurred.

7 COMMERCIAL ANGUS STEER SPECIAL The South Dakota Angus Association will sponsor a State Fair steer Special open to any South Dakota youth with an Angus Steer as their project and are entered in the State Fair 4-H or FFA Show. Following rules pertain to the steer show: The steers must be sired by a registered Angus Bull. There must be no visible signs of scurs. Steers are eligible providing all other requirements are met as covered under Section II, Part 3 of the Association rules with the waiving of white restrictions, except that steers with white skin above the underline or on leg, foot or tail shall not be eligible. The animal must have and will be screened for solid Black Angus characteristics and must meet American Angus Association rules and regulations pertaining to conformation and structure effective June 16, (Blood typing may be used to verify ancestry) Steers must be weighed prior to show as scheduled in beginning of Beef section. Place & time for weigh-ins to be announced. Divisions will be divided by weight following check-in. Entry fees for the commercial special will be $20.00 Prize money will be awarded for steers and heifers: $250 for Grand Champion, $125 Reserve Champion. For additional information contact: Aaron Schelske REGISTERED ANGUS STEER AND HEIFER SPECIALS The South Dakota Angus Association will sponsor a State Fair Registered Steer and Heifer Special open to any South Dakota youth with a registered Angus steer or heifer as their South Dakota 4-H or FFA project. The following rules pertain to this show: 1. All animals showing in open junior shows will follow the American Angus Association rules and code of ethics. We suggest that you visit for all of the guidelines. 2. All junior cattle must be in the juniors name (not farms name) by June 1 st of current year. 3. Junior heifer calves must be in the juniors name by check-in time at the SD State Fair. This only applies to junior members heifer calves. (Classes 1-4) 4. Check-in for Junior Angus Special will be held in NE end of open class barn on Friday from 1:00-8:00 pm. No entries will be accepted after 8:00 pm. 5. There will be NO PAINT ALLOWED IN THE OPEN AND JUNIOR SHOWS. Anyone who violates this rule will not be allowed to show. 6. Angus U-Fit-It contestants will be selected at the Angus Field Day and at the Summer Spotlight shows. 7. Prize money will be awarded as follows for steers & heifers: $250 for Grand, $150 for Reserve. 8. Blood typing may be requested to verify ancestry of entries. For further information contact: Aaron Schelske DIVISION 2 CHAROLAIS B ROE SHOW *Show Schedule will be bulls followed by females* See Premium Schedule following Health Regulations SPECIAL RULES All animals to be eligible for an Open Charolais Breeding Division must be purebred and registered with American-International Charolais Association. Only bona fide (original) certificates of registration will be accepted as evidence of registration and ownership--no PHOTOCOPIES. An animal is eligible to enter or compete in an open Charolais breeding class if registered in country of origin outside the United States and is eligible for purebred registry in the AICA Herd book. Animals registered in the AICA Colored Division Registry (QF and QM initialed registration numbers) must meet the parameters of the AICA Color Card. All animals to be eligible may be approved by a Sifting Committee designated by the AICA. Stall space will not be provided for any Charolais cattle that have not been accepted by the Sifting Committee. All animals are subject to a medical examination in order to determine age, and each animal will be presented in the show ring in its natural conformation without alteration or modification. Use of artificial tailheads not permitted. Any animal not having a legible tattoo or firebrand number is ineligible and will be barred from showing. Bulls from Classes, 36, 37, 40, 41, and 42 must have a valid, satisfactory semen test certificate in possession. This certificate is valid for the entire show season. All animals shown in individual Classes must be weaned, with the exception of the Cow/Calf Class and calves at the side of females calved after September 1, Females calved after September 1, 2011, must show in individual female Class appropriate to age. Nurse cows are not permitted. All females 20 months and older exhibited at AICA - sanctioned shows must be accompanied by a certificate of pregnancy from a licensed veterinarian or have produced fertile eggs as certified in a written statement by a licensed veterinarian or embryologist or have a calf at side. AICA requires that all animals be shown with a halter and suggest that all bulls be shown with a nose lead. ALL EXHIBITS OF CHAROLAIS BREEDING CATTLE SHALL BE GOVERNED BY THE AICA BY-LAWS, ARTICLE XVIII, TITLED EXHIBITION OF ANIMALS. THE INSPECTION OF EXHIBIT CATTLE IS SPECIFIED IN ARTICLE XVIII, PARAGRAPH C, OF THE ASSOCIATION BY-LAWS AND NON-COMPLIANCE OF EXHIBIT INSPECTIONS SPECIFIED IN PARAGRAPH D OF THE SAME ARTICLE XVIII. ARTICLE XVIII, PARAGRAPH C, and POINT 2: "Each animal will be presented in its natural conformation and structure without alteration or modification. Alteration or modification shall be defined to include any surgical, chemical, electrical or other appearance change for cosmetic purpose, save only branding, tattooing, foot trimming or dehorning. SOUTH DAKOTA HEREFORD ASSOCIATION HEREFORD STEER & HEIFER SHOW AND CARCASS JUNIOR SPECIALS The SD Hereford Steer Special Youth show schedules at beginning of Beef section. The Rules Will Be As Follows: 1. Steers and heifers must be South Dakota led, bred & fed. 2. Steers and heifers must be owned by a South Dakota resident who is also a member of the South Dakota Junior Hereford Association. 3. Steers and heifers must be shown by the exhibitor unless prior arrangements have been made with the Chairman of the Hereford Steer and Heifer Special Show Committee. 4. Any steer eligible for premium money needs to be representative of the Hereford breeds in color & markings. 5. Steers must be sired by a registered Hereford bull. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was sired by a registered Hereford bull. Decisions made by the Steer Show committee will be final in regards to the eligibility of a steer, regardless of recorded or implied information. No Appeals. 6. If a steer is entered in any other breed special during the State Fair, he is not eligible to be entered in the Hereford Steer Special. 7. Steers will be divided into classes according to weight. 8. Premium money will be paid in Classes with a Champion and Reserve Champion picked overall as well as the Carcass Contest. 9. The South Dakota Hereford Association will be responsible to record & distribute the premium money to the winners. 10. Steers and heifers may not show if they do not have an entry form completed and signed H Code of Ethics apply to Show Rules. 12. The injection of any gas, solid or liquid under the hide to alter the normal conformation is prohibited. 13. Any products/solutions/liquids administered internally or externally to alter the conformation of the animal is prohibited. This includes the use of steroids, growth promotions and the act of artificially filling animals internally, which would include stomach pumping, drench tubes or any other method per so (by esophagus). No exceptions. 14. Twining or addition of artificial or natural hair to any part of the show animal will not be allowed. 15. Grand & Reserve Champions are subject to Blood Typing/DNA tests. Champion and Reserve Champion prize money will be paid when all tests are satisfied. 16. Steers may not show if they have not been ultra sounded and entered into the Hereford Carcass Contest. 17. All animals must be registered with the North American Limousin Foundation. 2. All animals must be 75% Limousin or greater as indicated on orange NALF registration certificates or purple-papered Lim-Flex cattle as indicated by NALF registration certificates. Limousin and Lim-Flex shows will now be separate for bulls and females. Following NALF and NALJA rules, a Lim-Flex animal must be registered and proof of registration must be shown with the NALF s purple registration papers. 3. All animals must be properly recorded and in the name of the exhibitor by the entry deadline of the given fair or exposition. Cattle must be entered in the exact same name that appears on the registration certificate as the current owner. 4. All animals must be properly tattooed and will be inspected at the show. Tattoos must be legible and must properly match the registration certificate. 5. To maintain a high degree of confidence in Limousin shows, the North American Limousin Foundation reserves the right to disqualify any animal that has been fitted in an unethical manner. Unethical fitting shall include the following: a. Any altering of the natural color of the animal by use of dyes, paints, hair coloring conditioners, colored show foam graphite, colored powders or any other substance. b. The addition of any hair or hair like substances, including false tailheads and false polls. False tail switches are allowed. c. The cutting, tearing or gluing of the hide or underneath the hide or removal of tissue in an attempt to alter the shape of the animal. d. The injection of any gas, solid or liquid under the hide to alter the normal conformation. e. Any attempts to disrupt or change the normal dental development of the animal. f. Any products/solutions/liquids administered internally or externally to alter the conformation of the animal is prohibited. This includes the use of steroids, growth promotants and the act of artificially filling animals internally, which would include stomach pumping, drench tubes or any other method per so (by esophagus). EXCEPTIONS: In the case of severely sick or severely dehydrated animals, the exhibitor may have fluids or electrolytes administered by the licensed official show superintendent and/or North American Limousin Foundation representative. This exception is not applicable on show day or weigh-in/check-in day. 6. All aged bulls must show with a nose-lead. The right to disqualify from the show any animal deemed unmanageable is reserved by the Limousin show superintendent and the show management. 7. All protest against exhibitors or individual animals dealing with the age or genetic background of show cattle must be submitted in writing and signed by five lifetime members of the North American Limousin Foundation and presented to the show superintendent within 12 hours after the completion of the show. 8. The North American Limousin Foundation reserves the right to mouth animals for dental development at any show sponsored by the Foundation. 9. DIVISION 7 - MAINE ANJOU See Premium Schedule following Health Regulations SPECIAL RULES 1. Exhibitors are subject to all rules and regulations of the American Maine Anjou Association. When entry is made, exhibitors agree to abide with the rules and regulations established by the AMAA as well as the rules of the show management. Entries found to be misrepresented, or persons not abiding by the show rules, may be disqualified from showing. 2. All animals must be registered in the AMAA and the original certificate (or an application for registration with a check for fee) is required for presentation before the show. NO PHOTOCOPIES. 3. Tattoos will be checked, must be legible, and correspond exactly with the registration certificate (or application for registration). Other than Brucellosis Calfhood tattoo, there shall be no other permanent identification marks other than those noted on the certificate of registry. 4. The attempted surgical or non-surgical alteration of conformation of an animal is prohibited, except for dehorning. Cattle are to be shown in their natural conformation. 5. The use of false tailheads or adding hair, or other material to any part of the animal's body is prohibited. 6 The dying or artificial changing of the existing color pattern and color will be prohibited. 7. All animals over 7 months of age must be dehorned. 8. Any and all cattle shall be made available to have blood drawn for parentage verification and/or detection of foreign substances. 9. Bulls 10 months of age and older shall be shown with a bull lead in place. 10. Heifers exhibited at 20 months of age or older must be accompanied by a certificate (available for inspection) of positive fertility issued by a licensed veterinarian. 11. Bulls exhibited at 14 months of age or older must have had a positive semen test, and a certificate to that effect must be available for inspection. 12. All cattle shall be made available for veterinary examination to determine the presence of altering. Cattle also will be made available for veterinary examination to be mouthed for the purpose of age verification. The Show Committee reserves the right, after mouthing

14 by a qualified veterinarian, to remove an animal from the show or designate the animal to be shown in a different Division from that previously entered, at the Committee's discretion. An animal shall remain in the same Division as placed in at time of mouthing for the remainder of the show season, considered to be June 1 to June 1. The exhibitor shall have the opportunity to have the animal(s) remouthed at his own expense for future shows. The selection of the individual to do the remouthing shall be at the discretion of the AMAA Show Committee. 13.
