3 County Updates Page 3 County Food Show Meet Your Council Officer Katelynn Boysen is your Galveston County Council 3rd Vice-Chairperson. Here are a few fun facts about Kaitlyn that you may not have known: Years in 4-H: I have been in 4-H for 5 years. I started 4- H when I was 12 years old. Favorite Project: My favorite project is leadership. I participate in many leadership activities including being a teen leader at both Food Camp and Jr. Leadership Lab. I have attended Sr. Leadership Lab and I was selected for Leadership Institute. The leadership project has helped improve me as a person and in turn allowed me to help other 4-H youth. Hobbies outside 4-H: I am a part of Student Council and FFA. Also I make time to attend church and serve as an acolyte. Why do you think others should join 4-H? 4-H has various opportunities for different people and their different talents or likes. I think 4-H will better influence our younger generation to build better leadership qualities and have good morals. People will have a better understanding of how to help our community and to be more proactive. When: November 5, 2016, 9 am 1 pm Where: Galveston County Extension Office 4102-B Main Street, La Marque Entries Due: CLOSED **Volunteers welcome!** Recipes submitted should reflect this year s theme, Family Favorites. For more information visit: texas4-h.tamu.edu/projects/food-nutrition/ When: Scholarship Workshop November , 6:30 p.m. Where: ONLINE OR Galveston County Extension Office 4102-B Main Street, La Marque RSVP: November 29, 2016 RSVP here This Scholarship Workshop will be an online workshop hosted by our new District 4-H Specialist, Cory Hundl. If you are a high school Senior planning to submit a Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Application this workshop is strongly encouraged, however, any one is welcome. You may tune in at home or come to the Extension office. More details on how to login into the workshop will be announced soon. More information about the Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship can be found here: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? If I could go anywhere, I would love to go somewhere in Europe. I ve never had the ability to travel long distance, but I ve always wanted to travel. This could give me the chance to learn what other countries have to offer this world and how culturally diverse the world is.

4 Veterinary Feed Directive Beginning January 1, 2017 purchasing feed containing antibiotics or purchasing antibiotics for administration through water will require livestock exhibitors have a working relationship with their veterinarian. A Veterinary Client Patient Relationship (VCPR) is similar to the relationship one would have with their family doctor. The livestock exhibitor should initiate the VCPR prior to the beginning of the feeding period. The current VFD has been in place since 1996, however changes impacting livestock exhibitors will become effective January 1. Antibiotics used in feed or water now require veterinary oversight. For example Liconmycin in swine feed. The changes will also affect antibiotics administered through water, which require a veterinarian s prescription. For example this will affect those exhibitors treating poultry with Tetracyline. It is critical that exhibitors establish a VCPR and locate a source to purchase antibiotics prior to delivery of poultry. Be proactive and schedule a visit with your veterinarian to discuss your project plans in order to establish a VCPR as necessary. Holiday Crafts Show & Tell When: December 5, 2016, 7 p.m. Where: Galveston County Extension Office 4102-B Main Street, La Marque RSVP: December 1, 2016 RSVP here Are you working on a craft this year for the holidays that you would like to show off? The workshop will also focus on updating you on what s happening in 4-H Clothing and Textiles project this year! **Adults!** We need your help!
