1 Pageant dates May 30 th to May 31 st 2014 Miss Rodeo Old Fort Days Pageant Pageant Eligibility Ages are determined as of January 1 of the year the pageant is held. 1) Miss years old 2) JR Miss years old 3) Princess years old General Rules Eligibility and Application Process 1) All contestants must be legal residents of the state of Oklahoma or Arkansas; or live within 4 hours driving distance from Fort Smith, AR 2) All contestants must pay the required entry fee or have it paid by a sponsor. 3) All contestants must submit all required documents, pictures, and application by the due date on the application. Any late documents will result in a deduction of points. 4) No contestant may have been married, pregnant, or have a child, nor become married or pregnant during the year of her reign. 5) The entry fees need to be paid by a Money order or Cashier s check made out to: MROFD a. NO personal checks 6) Entry Fees include stall fees a. Miss- $100 b. JR Miss- $100 c. Princess- $100 7) Each Contestant is required to sell a minimum of $200 worth of raffle tickets and/or ads for the Miss Rodeo Old Fort Days Pageant program combined. a. Raffle tickets are for a 30 Foot Round Pen donated by Mulberry Gate Company. i. The tickets will be mailed out after entry is received. ii. Money and tickets will be turned in at Orientation on Friday morning, May 30 th. iii. The tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 or arm length (fingertip to fingertip across chest) for $20. b. Ads are for the Miss Rodeo Old Fort Days Pageant Program which will be available during the pageant. i. Ad information must be received by May 1 st and can be ed to kpriceslp@gmail.com ii. Ads can be sold to businesses, family members, friends etc iii. Ad Prices 1. Full Page ad $ ½ Page Ad $50 3. ¼ Page Ad $ /8 page (business card size) $15 iv. One free program will be given to each contestant in their packets given out at orientation. All other programs may be purchased at a cost of $5.00. Page 1 of 8

2 c. If the contestant sells $250 worth or more of ads and raffle tickets combined, that contestant will receive 10% of their total sales. For example if you sell $150 worth of ads and $100 worth of tickets for a combined total of $250, you will get $25 back. d. If the contestant sells $1000 worth or more of ads and raffle tickets, that contestant will receive 20% of their total ads sold. For example if you sell $500 worth of ads and $500 worth of raffle tickets for a combined total of $100, you will receive $200 back e. For the contestant who sells the highest $ amount of ads and raffle tickets combined, a trophy buckle will be awarded. Competition Rules 1) Contestants and individuals related to a contestant may not contact judges before, during, or after the pageant in order to influence or harass. 2) Score sheets and photos will be returned after coronation Saturday night. 3) Contestant numbers will be drawn at orientation. 4) Contestants must wear western attire, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat to all functions (unless otherwise directed by pageant officials). PRCA approved wear- Wrangler jeans ** deduction of points will be consequences of not wearing WRANGLER jeans** 5) Should circumstances occur that a contestant is conducting herself in an improper manner, a meeting of the MROFD Committee will be held and proper measures will be taken: including dismissal and/or disqualification of the contestant. 6) If there is only one contestant in an age division, she must compete in all categories to win the title. 7) Miss, JR Miss, and Princess Contestants must submit a signed statement that they have read and understand the rules of the pageant. 8) If a contestant chooses to not compete after submitting her application, no refunds of entry fees or prizes will be given. 9) Each contestant is required to bring a package of 24- Thank You Cards to send to the sponsors of the pageant. a. Please write in the Thank you card- Thank you for your support of the Miss Rodeo Old Fort Days Pageant and sign your name. b. Hand these in at orientation 10) Each contestant and visiting queen is asked to bring one gift under $20 so we can play Cowgirl Dirty Santa at the Pizza Party on Friday night. This gift will be for exchange so please have it wrapped nicely. If you do not want to participate in this activity, that is fine, but we usually have a blast doing this. 11) DO NOT BE LATE TO any activity or there will be a deduction of points. 12) Girls must stay in groups of at least 2-3 during the rodeo performance on Friday night or with your parents. This is for your safety. 13) Each contestant will receive an admission ticket to the rodeo after the grand entry. Tickets will not be issued to parents. Parents are responsible for buying their own admission tickets. Titleholder Rules 1) All winners must participate in PRCA rodeo appearances and other special events as requested by the MROFD Pageant Committee. There will be required appearances and rodeos. 3 a. Rodeo Of the Ozarks b. Fort Smith Christmas Parade c. Meeting in early 2015 d. Queen Clinic e. OFD Chili Super- Cure for the Cancer (April) f. Futurity Diner g. VB rodeo parade h. OFD Futurity Finals i. Fort Smith parade and 2015 rodeo all week 2) Title winners must understand that if they win a title, the funding for all expenses including travel and wardrobe will be their responsibility. 3) Title winners must conduct themselves in a professional manner befitting of an Old Fort Days Representative at all times. 4) No contestant may hold state or national pageant titles while holding the MROFD Title. If the title holder wins a state or national title while reining as MROFD, she will be required to forfeit all prizes and the 1 st runner up will be crowned. a. The state title cannot be for Example- Miss Rodeo AR, Miss Rodeo OK. However, it is okay if you win the Miss AR State Fair Queen title. b. National titles include- Miss Rodeo USA, Miss Rodeo America, Miss NFPB 5) Title winners must understand that there are required rodeos to attend. 6) Titleholders will be responsible for helping with the next year s pageant in a professional manner. You are considered the Role Model for the upcoming winners. ORIENTATION- FRIDAY, MAY 30 TH - 8:00 AM Go over any questions about rules, draw for positions. There will be four phases of competition: we will begin with contestant #1 at the first phase, #2 in the 2 nd phase, #3 at the 3 rd phase, and #4 in the 4 th phase (Miss contestants first, then JR Miss and finally the Princess contestants). We do this so the same girls will not always be first or last. Wear your horsemanship outfit HORSEMANSHIP- Friday, May 30 th 8:30 am Horsemanship competition allows the contestants to showcase their riding ability; control of mount; precise execution of patterns; balance of rider; position of hands, feet, and seat; mounting and dismounting. A queen run will also be performed at the end of the horsemanship pattern (and will also be part of the horsemanship judging). 1) No stallions are allowed. 2) No horses under 3 years of age are allowed. 3) No green or unsafe horses will be allowed. The MROFD committee shall determine whether or not a horse is safe. We are only concerned for the young ladies safety. 4) All contestants will provide their own horse for the horsemanship competition. 5) Contestant must ride the same horse during the entire contest, unless lameness or sickness to animal. A vet certificate is required. 6) The use of spurs are at the contestants option. 7) No chaps or gloves are allowed. Page 3 of 8

4 8) It is the responsibility of the contestants to make sure their hats stay securely on their heads. Failure to do so will result in point deductions. 9) Contestants must ride in a western style saddle. 10) Split reins a. Required for the Miss and JR Miss b. Optional for Princess Contestants. 11) Tie Downs a. No Tie-downs for the Miss and JR Miss Contestants b. Optional for the Princess contestants. 12) Every element of the horsemanship portion of the competition will be scored regardless of execution of set pattern. 13) There will be a deduction for an incorrect pattern, missed leads, etc, but that doesn t mean that you can t win horsemanship. 14) The judges have the right to ask the contestants questions during the horsemanship competition. 15) Horsemanship will be judged in the Harper Stadium Arena. 16) Horsemanship Attire: a. Dark Blue Wrangler Jeans b. Plain white shirt, no decorations allowed (no color accessories) c. Black Hat d. Black Boots e. Black Belt 17) The horsemanship patterns will be mailed out the same time as the Speech Topics, after we receive all of the entries. 18) The Princess contestants will compete first, followed by the Junior Miss contestants, and the Miss contestants will go last. Each contestant is required to remain in Harper stadium until their entire category has completed competition, and then all contestants of that specific category will be dismissed. MAYOR S LUNCHEON- Friday, May 30 th 12:30 pm The Mayor s Luncheon is for the Contestants, visiting royalty and family (limit only to 2 guest) Luncheon Theme The Year of the Horse o 2014 is the Year of the Horse on the Chinese Calendar o Everyone including family members are encouraged to dress in their favorite cowboy/cowgirl outfit that goes with the theme o Suggested attire- Red, Black, White and Gold Be prepared to give an introduction o Name, hometown and attending guest o Draw a fun impromptu question INTERVIEW- Friday, May 30 th 2:30 pm The purpose of the interview is to allow the judges to observe personality, intelligence, common sense, conversation ability, and maturity of each contestant. The questions are not limited to any subject, but may include: rodeo knowledge, current events, general horse health care, contestants goals and aspirations, contestants life experiences, etc. Page 4 of 8

5 This is a business interview, You are applying for the job of promoting the Old Fort Days Rodeo The times will be staggered so everyone is not waiting for a long period of time Anyone not in the Interview will be in the Fashion Show Practice SPEECH and STYLE SHOW- Saturday, May 31 st 9 am Speeches allow the judges to evaluate contestants public speaking ability, poise, confidence, correct use of grammar, creativity, and personality. 1) Theme- Hearts of the Rodeo 2) The Speech and Fashion show will be at Rodger Kay Park in the Expo Building 3) Speech Times: a. Miss contestants speeches should be three (3) minutes. b. JR Miss contestants speeches should be two (2) minutes. c. Princess contestants speeches should be ninety (90) seconds. 4) Deductions will be made for not staying within time limit. The judges will have a stop watch. a. There is a 10 second grace period on the time limit. i. For example- (for a Miss contestant), if your speech is 2 min 50 seconds or 3 min 10 seconds you are still considered to be in the time limit. b. If a contestant goes over her time limit, points will be deducted at the judges discretion. 5) Three outfits will be required for the Speech and Fashion Show Event. a. Speech: i. Western Style Dress ii. There will be no modeling in your western style dress. b. Fashion Show: i. One arena outfit that you will model ii. One outfit of Your Choice that you will model as long as it is 1. Age appropriate 2. Western 3. Must wear Boots, hat and belt 6) Speech topics will be mailed out after all entries are received, no later than April 20 th 7) Speeches will be given before the Fashion Show begins 8) We will be having the Silent Auction during the Fashion Show 9) Modeling at the Fashion Show- The modeling competition allows the judges to evaluate a contestant s sense of style, posture, poise, projection of self-confidence, grooming and knowledge of current rodeo royalty fashion trends. a. The Fashion show will be at Kay Rodgers Park in the Expo Building on Saturday, May 31 st at 9 a.m. b. Contestants are required to turn in a Modeling card describing your outfit that you will be modeling on an index card prior to the Fashion Show starting. Page 5 of 8

6 PHOTOGENICS Each contestant must submit one 8x10 and one 5x7 color photograph of herself. The picture will be used for judging the photogenic quality of the contestant, featured in the pageant program, used for promotional purposes and may be displayed at other events during the pageant. 1) The photograph should be a head and shoulders (bust) shot. 2) The contestant must be dressed in tasteful western attire, including a cowboy hat. PRCA approved western wear. No CROWNS. 3) Photographs submitted by contestants to be used in the photogenic portion of the contest must be vertical. 4) The photo must not be framed or mounted. 5) Failure to submit the photo with application and entry fee by the deadline will lead to point deductions. 6) Do not the photo! IMPROMPTU SITUATIONS The purpose of the impromptu question/situation is to test a contestant s ability to think quickly and respond gracefully and intelligently under pressure. 1) The same question may be asked of each contestant or contestants may randomly draw questions. 2) An example of an impromptu question/situation such as Why did you choose to compete in this pageant? or What is a Coggins test and what is it for? PHOTOGRAPHS During the Pageant Parents and guests are asked to not take photographs during the Mayor s Luncheon and Speech/Fashion Show We will have a professional photographer taking pictures during the events and you will have an opportunity to buy them Parents or guests who wish to video a contestant s performance during the Mayor s Luncheon and Speech/Fashion show may do so from their seat in the audience as long as it does not interfere in any way with the professional photographer. Stalls Stalls are on the grounds. The fee is included in your entry fee. Only 1 stall per horse. No exceptions. Shavings will be available to buy or you can bring your own. They are not provided. It will be hot, so you might bring fans, extension cords, and etc If you need a trailer hook up with electric and water they are first come first serve. Wear horsemanship outfit 8:30 Horsemanship will begin o Wear Dark Blue Wrangler jeans, white shirt (No decorations), black cowboy hat, black boots, black belt 12:30 Mayors Luncheon The Year of the Horse o Wear an outfit that is along the lines of Red, White, Black and Gold o There will be a personal interview and impromptu questions during this event 2:30 Interviews will start, you will wear same outfit as Mayor s Luncheon 2:30-?? Practice for Fashion Show while you are not in interview Grand Entry, line up at 6:45 p.m. o You MUST Wear PINK during the grand entry and rodeo that night because it is Tough Enough To Wear Pink night. When the bull riding starts, head to the queen room. We will be having a Pizza Party and Gift Exchange. Saturday May. 31 st Speech and Fashion Show at Expo Center at Kay Rodgers Park 9 a.m. Coronation with your horse during the rodeo o Be lined up for the grand entry at 6:45 o The winners will push cattle on Saturday night s performance of the rodeo Page 7 of 8
