1 4-H/FFA DEPARTMENT L 4-H and FFA LIVESTOCK EXHIBITS Superintendent Susan Pater, Cochise County 4-H Youth Development Agent General rules: Any regularly enrolled 4-H or FFA member who has satisfactorily completed his/her projects for the 2014 club year may participate in the exhibits and contests pertaining to his/her projects. Articles to be exhibited must be raised during the current club year. Exhibits entered in the 4-H & FFA Department may not be entered in any other Fair department. Leaders/advisors will be asked to certify completion of projects. Entry fee for market and carcass livestock is $15 per head, and $5 per head for all other livestock. Fees are due at time of entry and no later than September 10 th, payable to Cochise County 4-H, 450 S. Haskell Ave., Willcox, AZ Fees are not refundable. Go to and click the 4-H & FFA link, for further information and to link to online entries. MEMBERS MUST ENTER ONLINE BY SEPTEMBER 1st. Contact the Cochise County Extension Office (520) , for LARGE STOCK exhibit areas. Livestock inspection papers (as required) & market livestock summaries for market animals must be presented to the paperwork screening committee prior to weigh-in. Once the weight is recorded on the market livestock summaries, members must complete the form and give the top copy to the superintendent within one hour after weigh-in. Swine 9:30 a.m. Sheep and Meat Goats 10:00 a.m. All other livestock 12:00 noon MARKET ANIMAL WEIGHING All weighing will be done as noted below. Any animal that does not make weight may be transferred to the breeding, open, or prospect classes, but the same animal may NOT be shown in both the breeding and market and/or prospect class. The same animal may be shown in only one of these classes. WEIGHING TIMES Swine: Wednesday 6:00 8:00 p.m. & Thursday 8:30-10 a.m. Sheep and Goats: Thursday 10:30-11:30 a.m. Steers: Thursday 12:00 1:00 p.m. GENERAL RULES See county rule book for complete rules. Each 4-H/FFA livestock exhibit must be shown by the person entering that exhibit in the fair. The Danish Grouping System will be used in judging 4-H/FFA Club exhibits. 4-H LIVESTOCK ADVISORY COMMITTEE Please be sure you have read and understand the H Livestock Rules. If you do not have a copy, they can be found on the Cochise County 4-H website INSPECTION CERTIFICATES Inspection certificates must be issued in order to transport all livestock. Seasonal inspection certificates must be issued for all exhibition livestock. The form may be obtained from the 4H office or online Be sure to allow enough time to mail in the application and have it returned prior to the fair. SWINE HEALTH RULES (see rule book page 24 for complete information) In order for a hog to be exhibited it must be ear notched, have a premise ID number & a Certificate of Inspection of Exhibition Swine obtained from the livestock inspector prior to transporting. BEDDING All exhibitors must provide their own bedding. Shavings will be available for purchase. BEST COCHISE COUNTY BRED & FED (see rule book page 21 for complete information) A special championship class for the Best Cochise County Bred & Fed Steer, Lamb, Hog and Goat, will be held. The intent of the award is to recognize quality herdsmanship within our county and to encourage the selection of superior quality animals available within Cochise County. MARKET LIVESTOCK SALE Any 4-H and FFA member who has satisfactorily completed his livestock project to date and whose animal places in the blue or red ribbon color group is eligible to sell ONE animal at the Cochise County Junior Livestock Auction. All champions, grand, reserve and bred & fed champions must sell. In addition, to be eligible to sell a market animal in the auction, the exhibitor must not have sold a market animal in any other county or community fair within the last year. Page 1 of 5
2 SALE ORDER The animals will be rotated in the following order for 2014: Steer, Lamb, Hog, Goat Champion Live, Champion Carcass, Reserve Live, Reserve Carcass, Best Bred & Fed of each; the auction would then proceed with the blue ribbon animals continuing with the rotation until all animals are sold. Species will be interspersed so that all 1st place blues, etc. will sell together and the same with the reds. Actual placing s will be listed on the sale order. POLICY FOR SELLING ANIMALS AT THE FAIR For Sale signs will not be permitted to be placed on the animals stalls nor should any open business transactions for breeding or market livestock take place prior to the 4-H/FFA Market Livestock Auction on Sunday afternoon, with the exception of dairy goats and dairy cattle. Any 4-H/FFA member found to be in violation of these rules will not be permitted to exhibit or sell livestock in the 4-H/FFA Division of next year s fair. SALE NOTIFICATION 4-H & FFA members must notify the superintendent for each market animal exhibited that they do not wish to sell. These must be turned into the respective superintendent as soon as possible, but no later than 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. If an exhibitor has not notified the appropriate superintendent, the superintendent has the authority to decide which animal will be sold. TRUCKING The auction committee will arrange for trucking of all animals which go through the sale, to designated packing houses only. COMMISSION CHARGE A five percent commission will be deducted from the total price the 4-H or FFA member receives from both the animal and add-ons, and retained by the Cochise County Junior Livestock Auction. The commission is used for promoting and conducting the livestock sale. LARGE LIVESTOCK ROUND ROBIN SHOWMANSHIP To be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Champion Junior and Senior of the following showmanship classes will participate in the round robin showmanship: Beef, sheep, swine, meat goat, dairy goat and pygmy goat showmanship. In the event the champion is unable to participate, the reserve member may participate. If neither the champion nor reserve is able to participate, there will not be a member showing, but the division will still be conducted. MEMORIAL AWARDS The WILLIAM C. DAVIS MEMORIAL plaque will be presented by the AZ Cattle Growers Assoc. to the Champion Market Steer. The DAVE & MARY BOWEN MEMORIAL is a traveling plaque for the Champion Market Lamb. JUNIOR HERDSMANSHIP AWARDS Awards will be based on the livestock exhibits of the club or chapter and judged on grooming and neatness of animals and equipment, neatness of pens, stalls and areas surrounding exhibits, and the presence of the exhibitors to answer questions and extend courtesy to the public. Herdsmanship will be judged commencing on the opening day of the Fair until the release of livestock. A $25 cash award will be awarded to the club in the following livestock areas: Beef, Sheep, Swine, and Dairy/Pygmy Goats and Meat Goats.
