4 RAY COUNTY 4-H/FFA HORSE SHOW LOCATION: Rayville Arena---Rayville MO DATE: Saturday, June 29, 2013 (Rain date: Sunday, July 21, 2013) CHECK-IN TIME: 8:00 a.m. SHOWTIME: 9:00 a.m. SPECTATORS WELCOME!!! Please go to the Missouri 4-H website of then click on horses and that will take you to the manual. These rules will be followed at the County Horse Show with the following exceptions and/or additions. 1. Exhibitor must have attended a majority of the Horsemanship project meetings held by their project leader including a majority of those where the horse was required at the meeting and half or a majority of the community club meetings depending on your club bylaws. 2. Horse Forms must have been turned in by MAY 1 st on each horse that you might use during the year. NO EXCEPTIONS! 3. You MUST SHOW at the County Horse Show in order to show at the Missouri State Fair. 4. Novice es are open only for members in their 1 st or 2 nd year of horsemanship members If start in NOVICE (walk, trot only) you show in novice for the 4-H year. You must show before the judge in a performance class of horsemanship or showmanship to participate in game classes. If in NOVICE CLASSES you can show ONLY in NOVICE Game es. 6. Entries are due MAY 31, 2013 at the Extension Center. NO LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED. 7. COGGINS TEST REQUIRED. Need the Coggins certificate number. 8. There is an entry fee of $5.00 per class and the Entry Fee must accompany entry forms by May 31 st. 9. Entry fee is non-refundable, unless show is on rain date and you can't participate. 10. You must state which horse you will show on the entry form. 11. A Neutral Zone consisting of a 30-foot semi-circle centered on the entry gate of arena. The purpose of the Neutral zone is for member and spectator's safety. No one will be allowed in zone unless entering or leaving arena. A designated gate person will notify Show Officials if there is a violation. Violator will be disqualified from class. Second offense, member will be asked to load & leave. 12. A horse may be led in the gate by a handler for a game class but must be out of the zone before horse makes final turn of run. 13. Safety of ALL individuals at a show are a priority of 4-H. Horses MUST be under control 14. Patterns for classes are in the horse rules book. But at each show a judge will select patterns of their choice for Horsemanship & Showmanship classes and Trail class. 15. es may be combined or deleted if 3 or less are entered in a class. 16. Ray County 4-H does carry Special Activities Coverage for Accident through American Income Life for ALL Ray County 4-H members & leaders; if enrolled/recognized in the 4-H enrollment system. 5 PUBLIC SPEAKING/ DEMONSTRATIONS/ILLUSTRATED TALKS DATE: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 LOCATION: Eagleton Civic Center Richmond MO TIME: 6:30 p.m. 1. Must pre-register by 12 noon, June 10, 2013 at the Extension Center (8:00am 4:00 pm). 2. Speeches may be on any topic of the participant s choosing but must be prepared specifically for 4-H Public Speaking this year, by the participant. 3. Five to seven minute speeches are required. Exceeding seven minutes will access negative points. 4. When entering please state what project the demonstration represents and length of time. 5. Participants will receive $5.00 each for doing a speech or giving a demonstration. FASHION REVUE & FASHION SHOW DATE: Thursday, July 18, 2013 LOCATION: Eagleton Civic Center TIME: 2:00 p.m. Judging 1. Must pre-register by 12 noon, June 10 th ----with description of outfit to the Extension Center. 2. Judging will be in two categories: JUNIOR: 8-13 and SENIOR: 14 & over. 3. A winner in each group will participate in the State Fashion Revue at Columbia. 4. All 4-Hers participating in the Fashion Revue judging are entered into the Fashion Show. 6 4-H EXHIBIT RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Entries are limited to 2013 projects of members of Ray County 4-H Clubs. 2. Judging will be on the Danish System with conference Judging. 3. A maximum of four (4) items per project may be exhibited. Exhibits must not be duplicates. 4. All (5-8 year olds) members in 4-H exhibit under the project of CLOVER KIDS. 5. Samples are needed with food items; except for canned product. 6. The best blue ribbon item exhibited from each class is eligible for the State Fair. However, ONLY TWO ITEMS PER EXHIBITOR can be taken to the State fair. Exhibitors must decide which two exhibits will be taken if they have more than two exhibits selected. 7. All exhibits will be on display until Thursday afternoon---3pm, if removed prior forfeit premium. 8. Educational displays are a method to tell the story of project learning. They interpret a project to viewers and arouse individual and community interest in meaning and achievements of the 4-H program. Themes or title of educational displays focus on learning gained in the project. They should challenge viewers to study exhibit more closely. Keep the 4-H display simple. Make it attractive: use color, light, and action. Use one idea and stick to it. Use IMAGINATION. The display must be threedimensional and self-supporting. It can be any size not exceeding 11 inches in height, 12 inches in width (depth front to back) and 14 inches in length. Flat or two-dimensional with items taped to them do not qualify as an educational display. 9. Awards will be presented directly to the individual or attached to the article. 10. Awards are awarded at judge's discretion. Judges may elect not to award any prize H CLUBS 4-H BUILDING SHOWCASE Missouri 4-H Center for Youth Development University of Missouri Extension Learning by Doing is the basis of 4-H work, and each year thousands of young Missourians between the ages of 8 and 19 do just that. 4-H members make the items displayed in the Missouri State Fair 4-H Building or raise and train the animals on display in State Fair shows. The Missouri State Fair provides a showcase for the skills and knowledge that 4-H members have gained through their 4-H experiences. Besides developing practical skills and knowledge, 4-H ers are developing life skills. Under the leadership of more than 9,000 adult volunteers, 4-H members learn to make sound decisions, work cooperatively in groups and develop a sense of self-worth and accomplishment. 4-H also fosters leadership, as older youth share their talents with younger 4-H ers. We salute all Missouri 4-H members, volunteers and families at the 2013 Missouri State Fair! --AT THE MISSOURI STATE FAIR 4-H BUILDING-- RAY COUNTY 4-H EXHIBITS ARE THE COUNTY CHAMPIONS EXHIBIT ITEMS ARE NOT JUDGED AT THE MO STATE SHOWCASE GUIDELINES 1. Items made by 4-H members should reflect the skills they have learned in their 4-H project, the needs & interests of the 4-H'er, & quality workmanship. Use 4-H project literature & "Clover" for ideas & criteria H members may display only in projects in which they are enrolled in the current 4-H year. Items showcased must be the work of the 4-H member submitting the item and made in the current year. 3. Items must be of Blue Ribbon quality. 4. Items displayed at the risk of the individual 4-H member. The 4-H staff, Extension Centers, & MO State Fair are not responsible for the loss or damage to items. 5. A member is limited to two items in the 4-H Building at the MSF and one demonstration in the 4-H division. 6. All 4-H Building items must be registered on the Fair Computation Program report. 6

7 7. These items will be accepted from any project. Members should understand that their exhibits will be touched. These 3 areas will be displayed in the library section. 1) Notebooks--three-ring binders preferred. 2) Posters (flat only; do not fasten items to the poster.) and 3) File card systems 8. Where the item list states, "any item made," the 4-H member may display any item made in that project. This includes notebooks, file cards, photo displays, posters, or educational displays. 9. Because of space, available cases & number of exhibits in certain projects dimension criteria is specified. NO posters, pictures, or patterns attached to projects. Scrapbooks made in other projects other than 315 will be displayed in the library or with other exhibits. Poster - No larger than 14" x 22"; flat only; do not fasten any items to the poster. PHOTO DISPLAY photos Photos per mat must board. be mounted on 8 X 10 SOLID MOUNTING SURFACE. 2. The mounting surface should be mat board, in a color of the photographer s choice. 3. Photographs must be 8 x10 or smaller, with no more than 4 photos per mat board. PLEASE NOTE: Solid requires that there are no cutouts or other holes in the mat board, either around or behind the photo. Mat board is a specific material. It is not cardboard, foam core, poster board, etc. o Mat board may be easily purchased from online retailers if local craft stores are not available. o Examples of online retailers that sell 8 x 10 mat board include Sears, Golden State Art, Redimat, Etsy and several others which can be found via Google. Mount photos on the smoothest side of the mat board, using an adhesives designed for permanent mounting of photographs. Single window mats, or frames, made of mat board & sized 8x10 are acceptable but not required. Photo exhibits should be in a zip-lock type bag, to protect from dust/humidity. Include name, address and county on the back of each photo. All exhibits are subject to the FULL State Fair Photography guidelines. They are posted online at Educational display - Must not exceed 11 inches in height, 12 inches in depth (front to back) and 14 inches in width. Must include three-dimensional items and stand-alone. (Posters with items taped to them do not qualify as an educational display. Science Fair display boards are too large). Entomology or Geology display boxes - Box must be exactly 18" long x 24" wide and 3 1/2" deep to fit in display racks. Plexiglas/plastic covers preferred. No handles or knobs. Boxes will be displayed upright in racks. Scrapbooking exhibits should be only 1 page representative of the complete scrapbook. Size not to exceed 12 x12.all pages should be in clear protective sleeve or clear zipper bag. Do not frame. Working models - These exhibits should show how things actually work (cutaway-sections of motors/computers) or can be used to help people identify parts such of a motor or computer. Many times these exhibits are considered hands-on & can be handled by visitors. Working models--floor space no larger than 14 x 22. Decorated Cakes The use of forms or pans is recommended. Cakes should not exceed 13 in height or at the base. Cake boards should not exceed 1 margin on each side of cake pan/form & is part of 13 base.. Must use Royal Icing or Rolled Fondant Or commercial product (i.e. Dapp) that will harden & preserve decorated cake.. (No real cakes or butter crème icing or tube/gel icing - displays containing these items will be considered ineligible and will be rejected.) 10. No early removal or checkout of items is permitted. 11. Photographs of items too large or fragile: should not exceed 5x7 and should not be mounted on anything. Tags should be attached to back of photo. Indicate on voucher of this type of exhibit. 12. Exhibits using batteries---should not connect wires to the battery because of potential fire hazard. 13. All items must have a Ray County Fair tag securely fastened to the item in a place that is visible to fair-goers. A second identification label is required on all items, except perishable items such as food, vegetables or crops. This label should give name and county of the 4-H member, and be placed in an inconspicuous spot. Two-piece items: each piece must be labeled with name and county. (Examples: jacket and skirt; rocket and rocket launcher; ceramic tea set; mittens, etc., should have an identifying label on each piece.) Textile items (clothing, knitting, visual arts, etc.) should have a cloth label sewn or safety-pinned into the item as a second label. Please remove all county or regional ribbons. 7

8 14. Hams will be dually enrolled in the Youth of the Country Ham and may become eligible for sale if selected as Champion. The 4-H member is required to complete all Open Division entry forms and pay the $7.00 entry fee in the Agriculture Building.
