1 Roche Ranches Annual Bull Sale Saturday, March 8th, :00pm Anderson Livestock Auction Ogden,Utah

2 Welcome We would like to thank everyone that has supported our bull sale over the years. This year marks our eleventh year in the seed stock business. We have made many friends in the cattle and livestock industry. We take it very serious the confidence you have placed on us to improve your bottom line. Like our operation; you rely on the livestock to support your families, and pay your bills. It is so neat to see the loyalty, recognition, and approval of our bulls by the ranches who stock them. Some of you have bought bulls since day one, and we sure appreciate it. We are very proud of our heritage, and the previous generations that have done so much for us. They have helped pave and provide a way of life that we love so much. Our father, Jeff Roche, had the idea to purchase a ranch that he was raised on, and the place his father had managed for 40+ years. Justin and Dusty were barely double digits in age, and it the year was We were all excited because it was bordered by the property that our grandparents, Doug and Doris Roche, had purchased from grandma s dad Job Hadfield. The year we bought the ranch, calves were in the high seventies, lambs in the high forties, $3 dollar wheat, and interest rates on loans were 10% plus. Somehow, we have managed to make it so far. When we started on our own in 1992, we purchased 100 head from the Holmgren Conner Cattle Ranch, and 250 head of old ewes we bought from our great grandpa Nick Chournos. Presently, we run a 1000 head of cow/calf pairs and 4000 head of sheep. We have not been convicted of being the smartest, but we do know how to run and make a ranch work. We have taken the same approach to our bull program. We continue to improve the quality every year, and this is our best offering yet. We say that every year so that s a good thing! These cattle know how to get out and work, and will produce a profit for you in a commercial environment. They have to or you don t have a ranch. We believe the best way to stay profitable is to take advantage of the crossbreeding, and especially maternal heterosis, and quality research proves that. Maternal heterosis is the most valuable tool available to improve cow performance and herd profitability. With the low heritability of maternal traits like fertility and longevity, a breeder or breed can spend a lifetime trying to make the same progress for those crucial traits that can be realized in one easy cross. Studies show an equivalent of 1 to 1.5 extra calves over the lifetime of a female in favor of crossbred cattle because of the combination of greater longevity, and extra calf weaning weight. If we could purchase a pharmaceutical that added that much performance and profit, there is little doubt that producers would stand in line all day to buy some. We welcome you to the sale and want you to know that we stand 100% behind these bulls. If for any reason you re not completely satisfied we will make it right. Sincerely, Roche Ranches, (Jeff, Justin, and Dusty Roche)

3 TWO YEAR OLDS These two year old bulls have been fed at Wayments feedyard in Warren, Utah. They have done a really good job and we appreciate them very much. They were fed at Capeners as yearlings where they were put on a feed test- so when you see their TDG, that is from that 60 day test. All bulls are based off Angus EPD s, thus helping in ease of comparison of the bulls. These guys are probably not as big as some other sales two year olds, as they are required to go out and work and breed cows as yearlings. I feel it is important to send them to work as yearlings. It helps them to mature into good-footed, hard working bulls, that can handle many cows on big ranges. Also by running them as yearlings we eliminate any problem bull, as they will naturally cull themselves while breeding cows. He stems from the world famous bull of Tim Ohlde, Jet Fleck, who I saw in person and thought he was one of the best bulls that I had ever seen. He was completely three dimensional and good everywhere. His dam is as good of a cow as we have. She always stays looking good and always has an awesome calf. We have sold three bull calves out of her that have averaged $3850. The last one going to our good friends, Brian and Mindy Walters for $4250. The Walters have bought bulls from us since we began 10 years ago. His progeny are simply awesome in their overall makeup and performance. This bull should be a high seller on sale day. His mother is a very good cow; we have retained two daughters in the herd. He should have 10 stars next to his growth. He posted the highest weaning weight ever recorded on our ranch at an astonishing 925lbs. This bull has a lot of rib and a tremendous amount of top and muscle expression. His ten year old dam never misses. You could breed her to a Jersey and she would still wean a 700lb calf! We plan on flushing her this spring. His sire, J6 902, we just sold to our good friends Jim and Cody Wayment. J6 GRANDMASTER 839 CALVED 3/2/2013 J6 GRANDMASTER X GRANDMASTER X BLACK JOKER 46SIRE: DAM: JJ6 839 X GAMBLER X BLACK CASINO BW: -1.5 WW: 49 YW: 94 MILK: 19 TEST GAIN: 3.69 CALVING EASE **** GROWTH*** MATERNAL**** These Grandmaster calves are good cattle. His sire bost s EPD s of BW WW 90 - YW 141- API $125. His dam hails from the world famous Really Windy sire of Genex. This smooth made cat is suitable for heifers, while maintaining a ton of performance. His maternal brother sold for $3500 to Ensign Ranches, who run over 7000 head of mother cows. J6 IRON MOUNTAIN 790 CALVED: 3/20/2013 3/4 ANGUS 1/4 SIMMENTAL 53 SIRE: IRON MTN. X GRIDIRON X GRID MAKER DAM: J6 790 BW: 2 WW: 52 YW: 91 MILK:19 TEST GAIN: 4.04 CALVING EASE *** GROWTH **** MATERNAL **** BW: 2.5 WW: 60 YW: 105 MILK: 15 TEST GAIN: 4.52 CALVING EASE *** GROWTH **** MATERNAL *** Iron Mountain has sired the high selling group of bulls several times at Schaff Valley Angus, with over 200 sons averaging over 8K. This bulls dam is a cow that never misses. Her last calf sold for $3500 to our good friends, Lou and Teresa Anderson of Fairfield, Idaho who run 600 head of really fancy cows and runs a very succesful organic hay and commodity business. When you turn out this bulls mother, you will find her the next day at the top of the mountain. His dam may not be the best to be around in a corral, but she knows how to take care of herself and passes these traits on to her progeny. Iron Mountain maintains a positive energy EPD of $4.00 which is the top 10% of the Angus breed. Selecting angus cattle with a + energy value will help you maintain a moderate frame score in your cattle and good fleshing ability.

19 YEARLING ANGUS BULLS These Angus yearling bulls are some outstanding individuals who represent what I feel the Angus breed should be. They are moderate framed, deep-ribbed bulls with a ton of gut and capacity to store and convert feed. They also have outstanding maternal traits. The majority of the bulls being in the top 5% of the breed for Weaning Value. They also excell for carcass traits, which I feel the angus breed is superior. We really emphasize in our Angus cattle that they have a - or only a slightly + Yearling Height and Mature Height EPD and they need to have a + Energy EPD and be in the top 1-3% in Weaning Value. Like I ve said before, I believe Angus is a maternal breed and we breed them to stay that way. We are not looking to raise Black Charolais like a lot of Angus breeders do. J6 GAME DAY 109 CALVED: 2/20/2013 GAME DAY X BOYD NEW DAY 8005 DAM: J6 109 X OAK HOLLOW 54SIRE: X TROUBADOUR BW: -1 WW: 49 YW: 101 MILK: 24 TEST GAIN: 3.81 CALVING EASE **** GROWTH **** MATERNAL **** Here s a four star bull in every category and rightfully so. He is super deep and sound as a cat! His sire, Game Day, has the highest Weaning Value in the angus breed at $62.00 and still maintains a energy value. His mother by Oak Hollow, also posts + energy and top 2% Weaning value. She is very good. Don t miss out on this bull. He can improve your cattle and bottom line in so many ways. J6 GAME DAY 103 CALVED: 2/22/ SIRE: GAME DAY X BOYD NEW DAY 8005 DAM: J6 103 X 20/20 X IN FOCUS BW: 0.3 WW: 54 YW: 98 MILK: 26 TEST GAIN: 3.93 CALVING EASE **** GROWTH **** MATERNAL **** These Game Day bulls are so good I shouldn t be selling any of them. They have ideal angus character with tons of calving ease. Game Day has a REA EPD of over 1.00, which is the very top 1% of the angus breed. This bulls dam by 20/20, is ripping good- tracing back to J6 987, who is a gorgeous cow that never misses. Throw in In Focus as the Paternal Grand sire of this guy and you have a genetic gem! LOT 55

I think this speaks volumes for the way that these cattle are raised and for the toughness and survivablity they posses. After wintering out, she was still able to concieve AI and raise this good bull calf by the world famous sire, In Focus. Maternal grandam is still in production at 12 years of age. J6 IN FOCUS 145 CALVED 3/3/ SIRE: IN FOCUS X SAF FOCUS DAM: J6 145 X J6 843 X BC MATRIX BW: -1.3 WW: 54 YW: 94 MILK: 22 TEST GAIN: 4.88 CALVING EASE **** GROWTH*** MATERNAL**** If you came to buy a heifer bull, here he is with In Focus on the top of his pedigree and Matrix and Embalzon on the bottom, he is sure fire calving ease. In Focus has over 20,000 daughters in production with an average nursing ratio of 102. Not only will the calves from this bull come easy at birth but they will have performance. His Maternal Granddam has had 3 heifers retained in the herd; she is extremely productive. J6 PIONEER 627 J6 IRON MOUNTAIN 97 CALVED 3/25/2013 LOT 58 IRON MTN. Look at the performance on this brute! A 775lb weaning weight and a TDG of almost 5lbs. He is super stylish and will be a sale favorite. I m not the biggest fan of Future Direction, but his daughter J6 627 is a dandy and she hit one out of the park with this one.

We only got one Homer bull last year, and the rest were heifers. I thought this bull had died, as he never came home this fall and his mother came in dry. We ended finally finding this bull with some other cows around Christmas time, along with some other cows that finally decided to come out of the forest. You would have never known this bull hadn t had a mother for 3 months. He looked great. His sire OCC Homer has sired over 40,000 head of calves in North and South America. Fleshing ability is bred into this guy with dollar energy EPD and a $42.00 Weaning Value. J6 127 is sired by Domino, a hereford bull of ABS and the daughter of an angus cow by BR Midland. This bulls sire is Shear Force, who is the best calving ease bull we have ever used and is a PB Simmental. This red bull covers all of the bases of beef production. He is an absolute stud. On black cows he should sire almost all black calves and on red cows almost all red calves. This bull is worth the drive to come and see.
