County O Rama Begin to make your plans to participate in the upcoming 4-H County O Rama! Both the Indoor and Outdoor O-Rama contests will be Saturday, April 22 nd at the South Logan fair grounds in Booneville. Fashion Revue & Talent Show will be Thursday, April 20, somewhere in Paris. We will have more information in your April 4-H newsletter. If you have any questions or need any help preparing for these events, please call Sarah in the Extension office. Also, let her know if you need her to come to your 4-H meeting. We need animals and volunteers to help with a petting zoo in Paris on April 1st! Please consider volunteering to bring any tame animals you have and call the office to let us know you will be coming. 2 March New Exhibition Swine Tagging Requirements SWINE EXHIBITORS! There will be new tagging requirements for show pigs for Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission (ALPC) will be implementing the 840 electronic buttons for show pigs as opposed to the button Premise ID tags. You will be able to order the 840 tags through ALPC like you were able to order the Premise ID tags. Contact Heath Harris at With that being said, if you know of someone who plans to travel outside the state of Arkansas to purchase show pigs there are a few steps ALPC is asking of them. Prior to traveling Find out if the breeder has 840 tags or alternative USDA approved official individual ID available. If they do, make sure that pig(s) has an 840 tag or an alternative USDA approved official individual ID applied before returning to Arkansas. If they do not, please have the breeder contact their State Veterinarian s office to procure 840 tags or alternative USDA approved official individual ID. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection must also be obtained prior to returning to Arkansas. 4-H Poster Art Contest The top ten winners will receive certificates, which will be presented at the District 4-H O- Ramas. The themes for 2017 are as follows: Masquerade, Unmask your Potential Open theme (create a theme and a poster to go with it) The deadline for this year's poster art contest will be Friday, May 5, Contact the office for poster dimensions and other contest rules. Farm Bureau Safety Poster Contest There are three categories this year for 1 st - 6 th grade students. The first place winner in each category will receive a $100 cash prize; the second place winner in each category will receive a $75 cash prize and $50 for the thirdplace winner in each category. The 2017 theme is Get Out of My Space. It will highlight Confined Space, Animal Space, Equipment Operator Space, Electrical Space, and Driver Space. The deadline for entry submissions is Thursday, March 30, Contact the office for more information on poster dimensions and other contest rules.
